AMD RX 480 or GTX 1080?

Should I buy a AMD RX 480 or a GTX 1080? I have about 1000$ to spend on upgrading my computer so until AMD released the RX 480 I was thinking about saving up a few more months so that I can afford a GTX 1080

So these are the two different ways I can go:

 1. CPU: Intel Core i7 6700k GPU: GTX 1080 RAM: 16 GB DDR4 Motherboard: MSI Z170A Gaming M7 Total cost: Around 1200$ 2. CPU: Intel Core i7 6700k GPU: RX 480 RAM: 16 GB DDR4 Motherboard: MSI Z170A Gaming M7 Total cost: Around 800$ 

I would then save up for a VR headset :) Which one do I think I should go for?
