Steve Jobs: A rebel that changed the world
So I think everyone know Steve Jobs. He was the best entrepreneur and many people love him. But how hard was for Steve to change the world. So he was very rebel and many of his friends know him as arrogant and very rude. So this is the first thing: his personality. But which is the second one? He was very young when Apple became an incorporate and he had to choose a President for the company. He chosed John Sculley. Sculley was the opposite of Steve. He was very kind and generous. This made workers to love him more than Steve. Sculley realized this and started thinking how to remove Steve from Apple. He finally removed Steve with the reason that the salarys were the worst ever. This were the two reasons that changed Steve forever and made him more determined. Steve Jobs: A rebel that changed the world

Idea: P2P Disaster Relief Funding (not crowdfunding campaigns)
I'm posting a link to the ~two page Google Doc of the concept draft, but essentially the idea boils down to creating something like @VenmoRelief to which anyone can send money.
That handle would be attached to a pool for donated funds which a dedicated Venmo account distributes equally to verified victims of any natural disaster.
The Google Doc has more details, and too be honest it seems so simplistic that someone has to have thought of not before or tried it and found it unworkable for some reason I haven't thought of.
Please leave comments and criticisms.

Harvey Crowdmap?
Hi folks,
Not a news article but not sure where to pose this question. I know Facebook has a feature to crowdmap different requests in times of disaster, but it looked like it's totally unregulated and so there is a ton a spam on it. Can anyone point me to a more regulated, currently active crowdmap matching up requests for help with offers to help? If not, anyone familiar with Ushahidi/Crowdmap want to team up? Not super familiar with the tech side of things, so maybe this is a silly post.

The military is the only real job I've ever had and I just wanted to ask what is working tech like in the private sector?
I've been doing my job for a little under a year and I really love my branch, the job that I do, as well as the relationship between my co workers and leadership. I just wanted to ask a few questions about working in the private sector, overall career, working with different technologies, and having to deal with a (civilian) boss. Another important question that I would like to ask is how are the opportunities in getting a job in cyber security? One of my current duties is keeping security compliance for host systems on a network (that's all I can say about that.) being in the private sector is there much more freedom to work around an issue and getting it done? example ?
I would like to say thank you to anyone who answers it is greatly appreciated.

Hidden Camera
So I'm working for a client that needs to record his employees in different branch offices. In the past we have been using some hidden camera glasses and keychains. The problem is, around several branches they have identified the cameras. We thought we could use this opportunity to no only change the outdated equipment, but also upgrade. What products do you guys recommend?

[Discussion] Portrayal of Artificial Intelligence in Media
Media sensationalizing stories is hardly news, but I wanted to see what all you guys' opinion on how a lot of media presents a distorted image on the current state of artificial intelligence and what effects that would have on society and their perception of the field.
From what I've seen of articles talking about artificial intelligence, many paint the image that every major tech company has a skynet within their system that is a living being on the verge of self awareness and will take over the world. They address AI programs as living beings with thoughts. And even the companies that are AI developers seem to advertise it as such. One major example being the ads for IBM Watson.
One particular example that I find is the epitome of this kind of journalism is this article: http://ift.tt/2vbXBKk
My biggest problem with this article specifically is that the AI's "new language" is most likely a mistake. What is probably happening is the AI is finding patterns in the English language that just aren't the standard rules for English grammar. Yet the media repackages it as a creepy development that means robots will kill us all.
In my experience with AI, we are nowhere near the singularity and are, in fact, pretty idiotic. They have trouble performing tasks that are much simpler than self awareness. However, my knowledge of AI is restricted to a bunch of novelty projects I've seen around the internet and my personal experience using neural networks for projects. I'd like to see what all of your opinions might be.

Controllable Router for Parents?
I'm in the market for a router I can use to disconnect various devices from the net if I desire too. One that has great WIFI connectivity and is hopefully easy to use. But I'm quite tech savy and happy to dive into settings of the device if need be.
Essentially it will be used to disconnect the kids from net when they misbehave or have trouble listening.
I have my eye set on a Nighthawk R7000. But I didn't see if it could assign a bunch of MAC address to a group and turn them all off in one go.
Any suggestions would be awesome or any personal experiences you could share on how you do it would also be welcome.

DON'T BUY FROM CYBER POWER
Hey guys just wanted to tell you guys about my recent experience with cyber power. Recently I bought the GTX 1070 VR ready system. I asked a sales associate on their online help if the prices were in Canadian dollars, they said yes. It seemed like a deal, water cooled, GTX 1070, i7 7k, 16gb of ram, and an SSD with a 2tb hard drive. Also there was tons of freebies to choose from so I chose a few fans so I could swap out the stock ones and put in the better fans. Little did I know the prices were actually American dollar which was understood they were in Canadian after asking the associate.
After ordering the system it took about a month to come when the expected delivery date was in 2 weeks. After getting the system $500 was added on top of the price for shipping fees! When I opened the box I was surprised to see my system was not Watercooled. The fans I choose as "freebies" were actually a replacement for the water-cooling system.
In the end I payed $2700 for a system that originally was understood to be $1500. A complete rip off and I will definitely be on customer support until I get my money back.

Can Netgear wifi extenders connect to each other?
I have a shitty router, its way too hard to type out, but pretty much to sort my problem out I'll need a wifi extender directly next to the router, and then one in the actual low signal area.
So yeah, could I connect the wifi extender in the low signal area, to the one next to my router, which is connected to both the low signal area extender and my router?

What do gamers/tech enthusiasts look for in an ISP/broadband service?
I'm currently on a 1 gigabit fibre connection (fibre/coaxial hybrid) which has served me well over the past year, getting around ~900mbit down/~500mbit up and sub-5ms latency on local servers. This has been great for standard internet usage, 4k on-demand media, cloud storage etc. But when it comes to gaming, or low-latency/variance needs, my service experience plummets and ends up being just far too inconsistent to enjoy.
I've been looking at other ISPs in-market with some impressive offerings, the best providing premium services aimed at gamers, tech enthusiasts and the like. I have wondered if there is any true value realised on the consumer-end - people who pay some large premiums for these types of services. This led to some other burning questions that I thought I'd ask here.
Does it all come down to a service that offers benefits like: high DL/UL throughput, static IPs, no throttling, uncapped data, dedicated "to-the-home" connections, low latency/packet jitter, custom interleaving settings?
Is there anything that is yet to be introduced to market that may benefit gamers now and into the future (VR/AR applications etc.)?
Is the ideal gaming connection any different from the ideal internet connection?

Fair price for my Xbox one s package?
I plan on selling my Xbox one s with 2 terabytes, two controllers, dragon ball Zenoverse 2, gta 5 charging base for two controllers, turtle beach headset that I bought for 70$ new and my Kinect. This is not including my account which includes a bunch of 2017 games that I have yet decided to include or not. I'm trying to think of a fair price which I believe to be somewhere between $500-600. If you are interested let me know.

Thoughts on the Dell XPS 15?
I am currently planning on buying myself a new laptop and one of the strong contenders is the (new) Dell XPS 15 9560. Since I am a student and my budget is limited I could only afford the model with the i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD and the 1080p screen. All the popular reviews mainly talk about the fully equipped model with the 4K screen but I wanted to know some opinions on the lighter equipped models such as the one I would buy. How is the screen? Has anyone had some major issues with this laptop? Greetings from Austria

Non-obvious learnings in launching current startup, after co-founding 2 startups that were acquired and 1 IPO
I posted on here before when we first launched, I wanted to update you guys on some of the learnings we’ve had.
I feel compelled to share this. I'm addicted to building products people want to use. Most people think that once you have a few wins under your belt, it's easy sailing for the next startup. I think that's only partly true. Here's some context and what I think of as non-obvious learnings. I built my last venture-funded startup to $18M in revenue a year and was acquired. We then took the acquirer public (NYSE: TRMR). I'm now back building my next startup Cyclops.io.
Team-building - This gets easier, as you know who the good people are at early stages and who you have chemistry with. However, if you work with the same people you have been successful with, the strengths of having the flow and chemistry sometimes might translate into the weakness of not being paranoid. You don’t want to be stuck on a certain wavelength of thinking and not add fresh blood into key conversations. I have seen this occasionally and it’s subtle. This way of thinking brought us success before, so it’ll work again this time. Not necessarily true.
Finding Product / Market fit - Experience and calcified assumptions can be a bad thing. You tend to think less disruptively if you are not as wide-eyed. One of the learnings we had early on when starting the current company was to find a space with problems we were intimately familiar with as users and passionate about solving, but not a domain we knew much about in terms of how things were done. This way, we didn't feel shackled by assumptions. Our pain point for remote collaboration. We weren't as productive as we wanted to be on existing video conferencing systems. A lot of innovation was in supporting as many users as possible in a session. We thought for teams looking to get things done, there was little innovation in amplifying team's productivity. So we built Cyclops.io, a video conferencing platform with productivity tools on top. What was a bit non-obvious was that we have to reset ourselves to have a lot of humility in testing assumptions and re-building our network of contacts.
Fund-raising - This gets easier too since we are credible entrepreneurs with wins. That said, the surprising thing is sometimes we get questions around if we were too experienced and not wide-eyed enough. Raising too much money can turn into a downward spiral as you might be tempted to spend too much too quickly and lose the discipline that comes with a small budget.
Distribution Model - This was probably the biggest learning. Our current business was very different than our last one. How we get to customers is extremely different. The times have also changed - how users buy certain types of software have also started to transition from field sales to inside sales and self-service. Getting up to speed here took time. We used to have a field sales driven organization that was expensive to build. Now, we are innovating on self-service to make cost of sales much lower.
Mindset - This is probably the most important. Thematically, you just have to have a scrappy mindset again. You have to fight every dollar spent and get every dollar in. Question every assumption. Vet every investor and potential hire.
Overall, there’s a little grain of truth to the old line “the more experience you have, the less you know”, especially in a fast-changing segment. You just gotta keep your head steady and assume nothing.
