Headphone mic suddenly stopped working on my PC

My headphones mic isn't working anymore. It was working fine until today when I plugged in a controller and now it won't work whatsoever. I have talked to ASUS, installed a driver, uninstalled drivers, restarted, hard restarted, and the thing where you reset the settings back to a previous point in time to where they were. Still not working. The built in mic on my laptop works perfectly fine, and the mic works fine on other devices. I have an Asus rog g75vw. what gives? can someone please answer soon, it's driving me nuts.
