Why the ProtonMail case shouldn’t worry users

Protonmail states in its privacy policy that it does not log IP addresses, this case was an exception because they received a legally binding order from the Swiss Federal Department of Justice, which they were obliged to comply with, so they started tracking IP only at the request of the authorities.

Also remember that it is technically impossible for a provider to have zero visibility of users' IPs, so they simply don't store them; If a user wants a higher level of privacy he should use a vpn.
