Help Us Map Out The Future Of Simulation (x-post from /r/Games)

We are a consortium of companies and academics researching the future of simulation technologies on behalf of the defence community. As part of our research activities we are trying to gain an understanding of where interested parties foresee simulation and gaming environments progressing in the future and so we have some questions which we would like to put to the gaming community.

  • What developments might be seen in Non-Player Characters and game AI behaviours/interact-ability in the next five or so years?

  • How do you think cloud-based computing/virtualised hardware will affect gaming/simulation? Assuming a suitable internet connection, what pros and cons can you see for a virtualised gaming experience?

  • What technological advances/innovations do you see improving player-to-player interaction in collaborative social/MMO style environments?

  • What physical qualities of the real world, such as weather or reflections, being more accurately represented would most improve your gaming/simulation experience?

  • With VR technology maturing, what parts of gaming/simulation, such as control input or 2D UXs (billboards), won’t transfer well to these new platforms? What new developments will be required to replace these?

  • Which games have given you the best and worst immersive experience and why?
