Have you ever learned about a specific method to innovate on a specific idea or problem and then applied it? Did you feel that it helped? What were the outcomes?

I am interested in learning whether you have learned some "textbook" innovation, problem solving or design approach (e.g. fishbone diagramming, design thinking, many others...). How did you find out about it? What made you decide to use it? Do you feel that it worked? My motivation: So much is written about innovation but it's not clear to me who really learns about it and whether these researched innovation approaches work.
