I5 3570 or R3 1200?? trying to game of a rlly tight budget

I want to "upgrade" 4m my 4yr. old dual core mobo supports upto Intel 3rd gen. So, I'm confused between an i5 3570 and r3 1200. Is the performance comparable bcoz if i go for r3 I'd hv to get a new mobo too, also it's about 30% costlier then the i5, i could use the money saved to go from an 1050ti to a rx 570
