Has there been any thought about a global superconductor power transfer ring?

The idea is that if long term we have issue with storing power in batteries... then one way to fix this could be to have a gigantic low loss power transfer ring across the world.

So as the sun shine on one end of the earth, it is then pushed to the superconductor power grid to be transferred to the other side of the world as needed.

The biggest problem with this idea, would of course... be developing the superconductor technology... as well as the political challenge of getting agreement from all countries to contribute financially to it.
