Would my webcam heat up if a hacker was using it

Hi,

I have an external web cam that gets decently warm when in use as well as a little light. I was never that paranoid about hackers watching me, so I was never the type of person to put a piece of tape over my webcam, but I was wondering. I assume that a hacker could disable the light on it, but is there a way they could reduce the heat output? Maybe by only recording in 240p or something?

Sorry for the strange question, I can elaborate if I was not clear.
