New York magazine interview with Kevin Systrom, ex-Instagram

A good interview this with one of the founders of Instagram, especially for anyone (like me) founding a tech start-up.

It captures the shift from users > influencers, self-expression > brand host that the app has experienced since launch, as it has monetized, sought profitability and scaled in a corporate market place.

A point of inflection: the role of community.

"Anyone can create a photo-sharing app; not everyone can create a community. If you can protect that asset — if you can help nurture and grow it — and your product doesn’t suck, you have created something much more valuable than a great product with a terrible community. Our first value at Instagram was always community first. It got changed, by the way, when we left."
