Merkava V future EV concept car unveiled

Is styled as a futuristic hi-end electric car.

The concept is a «four-door coupe» electric car that will be introduced in Israel and Europe by 2025 and that could appear in the U.S. as an elite high-end in the electric car lineup, competing with Ilon Musk’s Tesla in creating EV — cars.

It is stated that MERKAVA will differ from its competitors with its high-tech electric navigation equipment, autopilot and environmentally friendly battery, which will allow the car to stay on the road for more than 10 hours, covering almost 1,000 km on a single charge. For this purpose, StoreDot announces a special battery capable of fully charging the MERCAV in just 5-7 minutes. Prototypes have been created and addressed to various potentially interested parties.

So far, it is known that two students from Tel Aviv’s Bar Ilan University and students from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, which is famous for its world-renowned Nobel Prize-winning professors and scientists, are behind the project.

Development took three years, and the underlying technology is represented in four patents. One of them is the use of organic and inorganic components in the lithium-ion battery. Instead of graphite, the anode uses nanoparticles of metalloids, such as silicon. This will increase the safety and lifetime of the battery.

Permission for them was obtained in May of this year.

The article was published in a local university newspaper.
