How to get an unknown file working again?

Hey Reddit! I while back I was working on some work that i was trusted to keep "on the down low". I had a special folder with everything in it, and sometimes I would let friends use this flash drive and to keep them from opening it, I would take off the file extension so they couldn't open it.

I one day put it on Google Drive and forgot about it until today. When I downloaded it, I couldn't remember the extension I used, or if i had zipped it, then took it away. If i open it in a text editor, I see some English, some Chinese (at least that's what google says it is), and a bunch of random characters and boxes. I noticed the English letters actually formed words (the exact names of the sub-folders that used to be in the file!) when you removed the random characters/Unicode in between them. Below is an example of the text found with in.

Å9KGG 9KG A. D S _ S Ít o r e ÿÿ ÿÿÿÿ

which you might then notice this:

. D S _ S t o r e

Now I dont know exactly what this is, but I have seen it when I share things between windows and mac. Here's another example.

:KGÑH :KGU Bo u B r ¥e n n e r ÿÿÿÿ

This contains the name of one of my subfolders

B r e n n e r

So my question for you guys today, is how can I go about retrieving this old file/folder! It would be awesome if i can get back into it!
