Best equipment for video blog?
So I am going to be traveling trying to make it as a professional in my sport. I want to make a video blog of my travels. What would be the best camera to use for this? I need it to be portable and small. I could use my iPhone but I feel like storage would become an issue.

The Verge's TL;DR was Too Long & Didn't Really matter
This article attempted to explain that due to pixel density of 18.5:9 ratio on the Galaxy S8 the screen was much smaller than a normal 16:9 ratioed phone screen. He came up with this using basic math but the wrong principle. In his conclusion he used area as a way of describing the two phone sizes. He also used mm2 for ease.
What he should have done was simply measured the number of pixels for the diagonal line (A2+B2=C2) and measured the number of pixels for a and b to compare with c. This would be more telling of if a screen is better than another. Today's phones have reached a maximum on how large the "should" be. Obviously there is wiggle room of up to 2" inches from around the value of 5.5". This means some of the cheaper low-end phones will at some point also reach these ranges of screen size (5.5" to around 7.5"). But what matters is screen density. The smaller the pixels of a phone screen, the better it is. This means phone manufacturers should stop worrying about inches in diameter, but rather how many pixels in that diagonal line there are.
With the S8 having more pixels per square inch, you know it's going to have a better display than a normal 16:9 ratioed phone screen. When it comes to next year's flagship phone manufacturers products, you can bet that this will be a topic. The reason being: all high-end phones now have to break the barrier of a 16:9 ratio, they need smaller pixels that consumes less voltage per square inch. The cascading effect being a thinner screen and then a thinner battery.

Some thoughts on digital food industry.
We all know that in the last years the food industry became a very large business (TV shows, super famous cooks, books, blogs and recipe websites).
I was thinking to open a website with recipes (mostly about Italian food), but actually I found out that there is already an incredible number of websites that provide recipes and explain how to cook step by step. This means that, it will be very difficult to get traction and views because food lovers will for sure prefer the more "trusted" websites.
So, I was wondering if it may be possible to innovate this concept of "website providing recipes". What can I do to differentiate from all those websites already existing? Any idea or hint? Or what can a website that already has 1000s of recipes do to innovate its business and remain sustainable in the years to come?
For example, I've been thinking to create some online courses rather than simple recipes. Or I was thinking to something related to virtual reality such as simulating the cooking so that people can later do it in reality (it would be a kind of first test without the risk or wasting food). Or also something about IoT, like a refrigerator that knows what's inside and suggests you possible recipes you can cook.
Also, today everyone is going crazy about food taking pictures of dishes and sharing them on social networks. But what will happen in the next 3-5 years? Will food still be so "sexy"?
Guys, I really would like to hear what you think!

Surge Protector with a separate power reset button
Hello r/Tech!
Does anyone have a part number for a surge protector with a separate power reset button? I have a customer who is looking for a large qty of these to deploy in a school system. Apparently the fire marshal told them that they need the separate button in order to pass code. It sounds weird to me, but I don't know enough about the codes to question it so I'm just trying to satisfy their requirements. I've looked on Monoprice, Ebay, Amazon, and Newegg without any luck. It seems like the separate button is an older style and anything that I have found is either discontinued or there aren't nearly enough available. If you have any information, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Everyone!

Hi all,
I've got a Verbatim 320gb portable HDD. It is spinning and sounds like it's working. The blue light also come on.
However, Windows will not recognise it (or acknowledge it is plugged in).
I've tried all USB Ports, and new leads.
I've been to disk management and it doesn't recognise it there either.
Any help or advice? I've got lots of data on there I really want to retrieve!
Cheers.

Would it be possible for a new Internet to form if they start from using existing phone/modem type connection to establish it?
I understand that ISPs (routing & complexity) means that a new network cannot just piggyback off of the electrical conductivity, but if there is a new Internet Protocol created that is designed to use existing phone connection & the appropriate hardware marketed (like modem) would an entirely new and separate internet network be possible?
I know, it sounds just like the current internet would just form then merge... but if a core group was able to control the early stages & still get popular usage from the public (and phone companies don't block them from using existing lines), would it be able to grow?
I'm only using the phone/modem situation b/c I can't think of any way it would be possible for an easy to access network to get established to fuel any popularity. I guess that launching satellites would be an alternative but that's costly for startup and consumer hardware.
If I'm asking this in the wrong way, please let me know how to better phrase the question.

Question on warranty & service of EVGA FTW2 / FTW3 from Newegg Global to India?
I am looking to purchase EVGA FTW3 (1080ti) else FTW2 (1080) in India but I am unable to find a proper seller. Even if I find one, they are selling stuff at exaggerated prices.
I came across Newegg Global and they are selling at the best price possible, even after the additional shipping charges. I am not sure about the warranty, if I purchase the product from Newegg.
Due to the lack of service centers in India, I probably need to ship my product to my closest service center i.e., Taiwan. Doing so will again cost me more.
Is it still worth buying an EVGA GTX 1080/1080 TI in India from Newegg Global (http://ift.tt/2nEAuDZ) or is it better to stick with my local sellers and get the genuine warranty?

Windows or Macbook?
I need a new laptop for work, which needs general office suite capabilities, as well as the capability for adding other kinds of software which will be used extensively.
I killed my other laptop (Windows) and the insurance is going to cover a small portion of the replacement costs, which could mean I can afford a Macbook, but is it worth going after a Mac?
I will travel with it via car often, and it may see long hours of hard work in it's future...
Is a Mac better in this situation or is Windows a better option?
I am not a gamer, no. I hear Windows are notorious for suddenly crashing, which kills the HDD... Does this happen in Mac's too?

Opinions on Sound Blasterx Katana?
Looking for new computer speakers. I usually play music and play video games. I do watch movies and videos often but definitely not more than music and games.
I bought the Sound Blasterx Katana and I am not sure if I am thoroughly impressed with them. I love all the features it provides like different sound profiles, connectivity, and it's looks. However, I feel like it's missing something when it comes to sound quality. I can't put my finger on it.
My other choice were the Bose companion 5s. They are $100 more expensive and lack all the features that the Katana has. However, I feel like I can enjoy the music and movies more. Not sure about games. I grew up listening to a lot of stuff through bose speakers so I feel at home with bose, but maybe I should break from that?
Let me know your opinion. Thanks for the help in advance. I'm pretty much set between these two speakers

Just heard my boss say, "With all of these emails they send they're wasting the internet!"
The title says it all. This was uttered in all seriousness (and extreme frustration) as my boss got six emails within about 30 seconds from the same person.
Apparently, when you do that, you are in fact "wasting the internet."
It was now worth it to come to work today.
Sorry if this is the wrong sub for this post, it was just funny as hell and made me both chuckle and shake my head sadly.

How is my power/utility company able to monitor my daily energy usage and let me change the thermostat?
Hi, our local power company started to show daily energy usage when I check my online account and also lets me change the thermostat. In the recent years they have installed a newer thermostat.
-
I am guessing that they have "broadband over powerline" and that way the devices are a "modem" of sorts. What stops them from being a broadband company in such a case?
-
The above still doesn't explain how they are tracking my daily energy usage.
Thanks.

External power supply pros cons on external HDDs
Hello,
First off I would like to start by saying this is my first time in this thread so I apologize if I'm doing anything wrong.
Anyhow, PS4s are getting support for external hdds, and there's some speculation whether or not to get an external power supplied HDD.
So my question is: what are the pros/cons of external power supplied hdds and regular external HDDS
Thanks for your time
