Why I think pre-release reviews are bad [DISCUSSION]

We all have watched people getting their phones early on YouTube. Like, say for example, Unbox Therapy today, he got the Galaxy S8 and S8+ today, well, let me tell you a few reasons why these reviews don't make any sense.

  1. Pre-release phones have beta software.

The software on pre-release phones is good, and 'snappy' as the YouTubers say they are. But, for the average consumer, if you got a pre-release phone, it may have some bugs, and some stuff that the manufacturer hasn't ironed out yet. This is a big problem with YouTubers who review phones before they come out.

  1. Pre-release phones have zero optimization with apps.

Well, it's this little key detail that shows with YouTubers. They say that the "bezels" are still there with the YouTube experience, well, the problem is, YouTube hasn't yet implemented a quality option for that aspect ratio of phones on the Galaxy S8. I'm sure that apps that don't recognize the hardware (I.e Geekbench 4, AnTuTU, and etcetera) and give out inaccurate test results on the unrecognized hardware.

  1. Last minute changes to hardware or software

Software, or hardware could change at the last second between the span of making a pre-release video of the phone, and the actual experience of the shipped consumer model. So, this, in fact makes the pre-release videos invalid with the changes. The keys on the S8 could change over time, or something else could be moved at the last second.

Conclusion:

We should watch these pre-release reviews on YouTube, but, they should only be taken with a grain of salt, because the videos are “pre-release models” you can't truly know what features a phone has until it comes out completely, and everything is optimized for it. We should all think about these videos and how they will affect our views on the product. That's cool that you got the phone and all, but, is it really practical for the average everyday consumer?

Discussion:

How do you view the pre-release videos of phones? Do you think it's something you'd want to buy when it comes out? Do you think it's a video only to get hype on the phones?
