It's been 5 years since the introduction of swipe/gesture typing. Will it ever replace the standard form of typing on touch screen devices?

Swipe/gesture typing had been around since about 2002 and practically available since 2012. What is the future of swipe with the development of predictive text algorithms. Do you use it? What do you think would improve it? Is it faster or easier for you? Does the keyboard need to be changed if it is adopted and how will it change our use or understanding of language?
