Why do tech companies add features to products that there was little to no demand for, and a good potion of people did not want at all?

For example, Samsung is announcing they are getting rid of the headphone jack. This is after they heard all the negaative comments Apple got. People seemed to generally prefer the option to use wired heaphones or not. Why would they get rid of it? It's like a recipe changing flavors when no one asked for that, and most people think the old flavor was better. I just dont get it, can someone explain?
