President Trump is not the only politico to be handed his ass on a platter this week. Amazon's decision to take its 25,000 jobs and stomp out of New York City because it just didn't want the tsuris is also a major loss for Democratic revolutionaries and progressives. Yes, New York did give the company too big a tax break and, yes, it would have driven up costs for some middle income people although it would have provided better paying jobs for many others. The problem with being young and filled with revolutionary fervor is you want it all and you want it now. How you get from here to there is often lost in translation.
Donald Trump's dismal record of real accomplishments should be a cautionary warning to those, on both the left and the right, who think they can get their way by sheer brute force. After two years of Trump, Obamacare is still alive, North Korea is still building nukes, Russia is messing with us more than ever, Iran is still abiding by the nuclear deal, not one foot of new Wall has been built, Mexico has sent no money, undocumented immigrants still commit crimes at a lower rate than Americans, illegal immigration is at historic lows, the big tax break had little or no benefit to working class people, not a single new bridge or highway has been built, and prescription drugs are still at obscene levels.
The Republicans are going to run in 2020 against Alexandria Octavio-Cortez, a passionate young woman who has been in office for a couple of months and won't be eligible to run for another seven years anyway. Let's not let them. I'm hoping Joe Biden is the nominee not just because he is a decent man but because he takes away the GOP extremist argument. I would be happy with Kamala, Beto or Corey as heir apparent.
