My Office subscription expired some time ago, and after a while, I realized that now I cannot access any of my Office files. Now Microsoft is demanding payment for me to even be able to see my files. I understand when Microsoft disables the use of the editing tools of the files but preventing altogether even seeing the files you have amassed in your computer is completely preposterous.
Malwarebytes defines ransomware: Ransomware is an emerging form of malware that locks the user out of their files or their device, then demands an anonymous online payment to restore access.
It looks like Office does meet some of the definition of ransomware, namely, it locks the user out of their files or their device, then demands an online payment to restore access.
I am outraged. I will have to pay them probably one last time to have access to my files and I will try to migrate my files to some other program and will try to avoid to the best of my ability Microsoft products for the foreseeable future until there is positive change favorable to the customer.
