Companies moving free features behind a paywall for products

I really don't like the trend where companies selling products and move free features behind paywalls over time after the reviews are out.

I have a Petcube Bites and Petcube Play. I used to be able to download any videos that were in my feed (4 hour history with a free account). A few months ago, they started limiting how many videos you can download to maybe 5 with a free account and now, both devices won't even record video when detecting sound or motion with a free account. Is anyone else experiencing this?

How is it even legal for them to keep moving free services behind a paywall? At this rate, they will charge you to even look at it........
