Does anyone know how to remove stains from a phone case?
The other day I got a black stain on my gray phone case from the equipment at the gym. I've tried simply washing the stain, bleach, even OXI CLEAN (lol). It still hasn't come out yet! I'd rather not spend money on another phone case if I can make my phone look normal again.

Virtual Reality
So, I've seen lots of things about virtual Reality, and it's a field I'm interested in going into. I've seen people take these "sphere recordings" and pictures, where you can see everything, depending on where you turn your head. The most obvious one is Google cardboard. However, after messing with it, I realized it's actually quite garbage compared to what some people do. It's a flat panorama that moves when you turn your head. That's the extent of it. The next step up from that I've found, is locking the focus on my camera, taking a ton of pictures, and stitching them together using PTGui (if there is a better/more streamlined and developed software, PLEASE let me know). After stitching them, I used a website called sphcst to view them. However, this website lowered the quality significantly. What I want to know, is how do people take the 360 video? I saw sphericam, but it looks like it's still in its Kickstarter phase. How can I view the 360 things I take? Is there software for it? Do I need an oculus or VIVE? Thanks in advance!

Food as packaging material
(This article is availabel in http://ift.tt/2v66hBK) Given that the goal of food packaging is to contain food in a cost-effective way that satisfies industry requirements and consumer desires, maintains food safety and minimizes environmental impact, a growing number of entrepreneurs and researchers are working on innovative solutions for food as packaging material. The layer that is in direct contact with the food or beverage is called “food contact material” and it applies to food (and beverage) packaging, but also to any other materials that come into contact with food, either during storage, processing and filling, or consumption (like cooking utensils). In general, any food contact material should not release chemicals into the food at quantities that can harm human health (EU 1935/2004, Article 3).
Biodegradable packaging is one of the new trends for green living, since it can be disposed of with ordinary trash removing the hassle of sorting trash into recyclables. Biodegradable items consist of renewable resources that can be harvested directly from nature and completely decompose, with the aid of micro organisms, when placed in a composting area. It is quite different from the so called compostable material since biodegradable refers to the ability of materials to break down and return to nature while compostable materials may be similar to biodegradable materials, since they are both intended to return to the earth safely, but simultaneously they provide the earth with nutrients once the material has completely broken down.
However, there is another emerging trend that extends on biodegradable packaging and that is packaging made of food material. Food like mushrooms, kelp, milk and tomato peels are planned to turn into edible — if not always palatable — replacements for plastics, coatings and other packaging materials. Some projects regarding food as food packaging can be read below.
(1) The NaturALL Bottle Alliance created by Danone, Nestlé Waters and Origin Materials. Together, the three partners aim to develop and launch at commercial scale a PET plastic bottle made from bio-based material, i.e. 100% sustainable and renewable resources. The project uses biomass feedstocks, such as previously used cardboard and sawdust, so it does not divert resources or land from food production for human or animal consumption. (2) Merck Forest and Farmland Center, cooperating with Ecovative, produce Mushroom Packaging: their organic syrup product is stored in a recyclable container and shipped in stable organic packaging, which can be home-composted or used as garden mulch. (3) The BIOCOPACPlus project, funded under LIFE+ Environment Policy and Governance, with the goal to prove and demonstrate the viability of an innovative technology for the production of a bio-lacquer obtained from the re-use of the tomato waste and to be used as coating for food contact applications in metal cans. (4) The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, at Harvard, has extracted chitosan, a polysaccharide, from shrimp and lobster shells and combined it with silk fibers to create an alternative to plastic packaging, called Shrilk and it can be used to make egg cartons or a wrap for lettuces. (5) Skipping Rocks Lab has developed a packaging from edible seaweed called Ooho, and is building a machine to produce containers from Ooho to hold water, juices, cosmetics and other liquids on the spot. Ooho is 100% made of Plants & Seaweed, biodegradable in 4-6 weeks, edible, fresh (shelf life of a few days), 5x less CO₂, 9x less Energy vs PET and cheaper than plastic.
Benefits and drawbacks of food as packaging material The main benefit is that packaging materials which are damaging the environment, such as plastic, glass etc, can be replaced by environmentally friendly and biodegradable or compostable materials. Images with huge landfills of plastic and glass, sea animals or birds caught in garbage, fires due to glass thrown in flamable areas etc, shall be no more. Recycling may then focus on tackling materials from non-food industry. In addition, food waste can be used efficiently in a packaging form rather than just be disposed of. Hence, large processing industries may use their own waste as packaging their own products, saving significant amounts of money. Consumers can also contribute by collecting their food waste and giving it to recycle. Finally, new industries, markets and job posts can be created and the commercial value of traditional agricultural commodities may be re-evaluated on the basis of their extended usage.
On the other hand, many argue that, since there is excess food, why use it on packaging rather than feeding the poor or famine-struck countries? People die from starvation every day and millions are sick, due to low-nutrition meals, or underfed. In those areas, food is the priority, not packaging. Furthermore, besides the humanitarian view, there is also the market's view as follows: investing on food as packaging material should ne decided after taking into account the consumer's behavior, in case he/she thinks that the packaging is hazardous. Product sales may drop if the consumer's trust drops, so any action should be based on a gradual cultural change. Health hazards are not to be dismissed since the “food contact material”, being mainly organic, may distort the food or beverage packaged, ultimately resulting in failure of the innovative packaging's goals.

Old laptop: Best way to hook up to an HDMI flat screen?
My laptop is a bit old; it's a 2012 HP Pavilion but it's proven faithful and as a college student I don't see the need to buy a new one. The only flaw I can find with it is it's lack of an HDMI port. I searched for a microHDMI but didn't find one. All I could find is an outdated VGA port but of course audio is left out. What kind of adapter or cable should I buy to hook it up to an HDMI flat screen?

I am not sure if asking about other's opinions on this is against the rules. But more specifically: an Innogear MU 007 condenser microphone.
Ivve read reviews of a few but the negative reviews have me scared and I figured reddit would gbe much more useful in actually figuring things out than going through hundreds of reviews on various external sound cards.

Sticker sending death threats. Help!
Hey,
So I have some number that texts me every now and then threatening me. Its someone that I know but can't figure out who and apparently they think I'm spreading rumours but that couldn't be further from the truth. when I call the number it goes to a automatic voicemail machine. I just want to know how to search that number or what the best way is to find this person. It's getting pretty scary. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

WHY NET NEUTRALITY SHOULD STAY
Telemarketing companies do not own the internet, they own the devices used to give access to the internet (the wires) and upgrades and maintenance are being paid for by the phone users. The companies only have the right to charge for use of their cables to connect to the internet and do not have the right to throttle companies or websites that pay the same for service as the ones they slow down. Phones are connected to the same network and pay for the whole network already and the lines that are used for phone and internet connection are built on public and private land for free and the companies are charging for use of the land. Picture this The country only has 1 restaurant and you went there for lunch. The guy at the table next to you orders the exact same thing as you and pays the exact same for it. The guy next to you gets all of his food at once but you get yours one french fry at a time and and you stay and wait because this is the only restaurant you cannot go to another. This is what these companies are doing giving equally paying customers different qualities of service and you cannot go to a different one because there very few companies that provide this service and they are all extremely similar.

Safer Mouse Options?
As somebody who spends 10 hours a day, 7 days a week in Autodesk programs, I recently found out that carpal tunnel syndrome is nearly unavoidable for me, especially if I don't change my mouse habits. I was hoping that some people would know of some safer alternatives to my G502 that I use for games and modeling right now that will prevent carpal tunnel syndrome.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by an unnatural wrist motion. If you lay your hand, palm down on something and wiggle it left and right, that is what causes it. Our wrists are meant to move up and down (assuming palm is facing down). Most mice are designed to be used in the unnatural method. Same with keyboards.
I've only found one ergonomic mouse so far that fixes these problems. However, it's very expensive and doesn't have the buttons I need to do 3D modeling. I was hoping to get some advice from the community here and maybe help some other people that are suffering from the same problems that I am. Thanks!

Looking for a specific kind of device
I'm aware this probably isn't the right subreddit for this but it need some help. I'm looking for a device that I can preload with movies and plug directly into an HDMI port to watch said movies on TV.
I work at a group home and I'd like to get a bunch of my movies together for my special needs clients. One of the apartments has a PS3 that I loaded with movies but I want to know if there's anything cheaper for the other apartments.
If this isn't the right subreddit then could someone point me in the right direction? Thank you!

Net Neutrality with Monopoly Behemoths
In this day and age the internet is pretty much apart of the every day life, just as cars and cellphones. The problem with that though is the monopolies that have become grossly in control. These monopolies, in there respective industries, include; Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft/Apple, and Google. Now we are seeing the affects of the ISP monopoly in the US, Comcast... As an American who now lives in New Zealand, where in the beginning there was only 2 main ISP providers (Vodafone and Telecom), over time there have been more competitors in which to choose from. We must strive to prevent these monopolies from forming and gaining exclusive access to our data/usage. Facebook is an extremely dangerous example... 2 billion users, not to say that number is accurate with the amount of fake accounts on the site, but still even having 1 billion people uploading their lives onto a site which mines every last bit of information about them is horrifying to say the least. The block-chain is a wonderful first step into the decentralized future, but we need to push for more decentralized platforms and give the power back to the people, not the behemoths. I am not saying that block-chain is the 100% answer to everything, but the ideology behind decentralizing is the true answer.
For the tl;dr people - Monopolies are bad, decentralization is good.

How Old Is Your Phone? Do We Really Need The Latest and Greatest When It Comes to Mobile Phones?
With Samsung's new S8 (and upcoming Note 8) releases I got in to a discussion about whether mobile tech is too far ahead of the actual needs of a user today. Personally, i still have a 3 year "old" LG G3, with a custom rom, that i use on a daily basis and even that is more than enough for my needs. At some point there has to be a justified benefit of spending hundreds of dollars on the latest and greatest, and how much of that investment we actually get to utilize. How much do we really need to swipe more smoothly, surf the web faster, text/email, play games or to take super res pictures and video for the everyday user? I wanted to start a discussion to see if people indeed buy the latest and greatest or hang on to older phones that meet their needs.

Why Google is Full of Crap about logging in from a recognized device
A few days ago, I was working in an open computer lab. The computer was completely turned off. I booted it, opened up the browser, went to the Google page and clicked on Gmail. Someone else's email inbox opened.
I logged out of it and tried to log into my own email only to get the message that "for my own security" I couldn't log in because the device I was logging in from wasn't recognized.
So they don't log out of the session when the browser closes, even when the computer shuts down, to allow for the possibility of another user; but they locked me out of my account because I wasn't logging in from my phone, laptop it tablet, none of which I had with me.
Was not happy. Switching to another web based mail.
TL;Dr Google has forgotten the entire purpose of web based email and has too much power to spy on us.

ELI5: How does a video projector cast dark/black light?
I feel as though I'm on par or better with intelligence, I realize how easy it would be because of contrast if we are talking about spots of darkness when a movie plays. But I'm in a room with some lighting, projector on, no connections, and a bright wall except for the whole projecting frame, black/dark grey saying, "no connection".

My analog watch never needs a charge and always tells the time. My corded headphones never need a charge and always work. What's the point of smartwatches and wireless headphones with these new features and convenience if they risk sacrificing reliability and even the ability to turn on and stay on?
It's starting to bother me that as part of my bedtime routine I have to go down a checklist of everything that needs to be charged for the night if I want to use it the next day. The fundamentals with smartwatches and wireless headphones simply aren't there yet.
Wireless headphones are a pain to set up with wi-fi and bluetooth or whatever, a pain to maintain, and a pain to remember to charge. Plus they're expensive. Corded headphones are easy to find if dropped, never need to be charged, and are the easiest to set up since all you need to do is plug them in a port.
Smartphones have all these nifty Inspector Gadget features, but ultimately no one cares and just uses their phone. Google Maps for Apple Watch was discontinued, Amazon app for Apple watch was discontinued, as well as many others.
I appreciate the need for growth and innovation. But not when it comes at the cost of convenience and reliability.

Platform of innovation awards in Europe
I read this article written by McKinsey and had a look of how the "industry" for innovation awards grew in the US, though the article is outdated (2009).
I would love to find some current resources/ platforms containing important innovation awards in Europe from 2010 until present. Do you have any suggestion? Your help is deeply appreciated!

Human Wildlife Conflict Tech Challenge
First post to r/tech, but I just have to share this. Wildlabs.net and WWF just launched their HWC Tech Challenge. There is quite some information on the webpage but let me summarize it.
Design a 'early detection system' for conflict wildlife. There are two scenarios:
- Detection elephants in Assam, India.
- Detection carnivores (Polar Bears, Tigers).
The system should be easy to setup by locals, locally sourced, climate proof, low maintenance and easy scalable. Besides that, because of the sensitivity of the location data (poachers do like locations of tigers). It should be secure.
How would you do it? ;)

Why is USB C Market Penetration still so Low?
Hi all,
I'm a bit confused about the relatively low adoption rate of USB C.
Even companies that are actively pushing USB C, are doing so half-heartedly. Notable gadgets that recently came out without it:
- Nintendo New 3DS (although the Switch has USB C)
- iPad Pro 10.5 / iPhone 7 (although iPhones have USB C)
- Microsoft Surface Pro
I'm sure there's more I'm missing, not sure how well Android smart phones have adopted the new standard.
Can you explain why so many devices that are coming out this year don't have any USB C jacks yet?
