Is there a case to be made for killing the 3.5mm audio jack?
To start this off, I'm not asking what your opinion on Apple is. I don't want to hear how the iPhone is for plebs who just want to be cool and grandmas who don't understand technology. I keep seeing threads and hoping for genuine information and it just turns into a OnePlus, Samsung, Pixel, generally any phone company besides Apple circle jerk on why iPhones are dumb. I don't even own one, I'm just sick of seeing it.
I want to hear from someone smart who understands it regarding if there is a good reason to retire the golden standard in audio connection. A recent article about a tech conference talked about how pretty much every audio company was pushing Bluetooth and some of the fidelity purists we're trying to introduce a different gauge (4.something) for the headphones that need to be wired.
Are we truly witnessing the demise of the 3.5mm jack? If we are, does it really matter, or is everyone throwing a tantrum now and will forget it 3 months after it's gone? (Like with every other large shift in tech format)

Decentralizing Wikis Like Wikipedia Using Blockchain and Cryptocurrency
Can wikis be decentralized using blockchain technologies? Projects like Substratum, Shift, Sia, Golem, and IPFS might help to enable the decentralization of wikis. Cryptocurrencies like Steem can perhaps be used to reward contributors and editors on the decentralized wikis. Perhaps a new cryptocurrency will be created to reward and tip contributors and editors on decentralized wikis.
Wikipedia is the most popular wiki. There are many wikis out there. Wikipedia runs on software called MediaWiki. Wikipedia content is licensed under a Creative Commons license. The license of Wikipedia is CC-By-SA, which means it is a Creative Commons license that allows you to edit and re-publish content, and even to monetize the content, as long as you reshare it under the same Creative Commons license and give attribution to the contributors/creators of the often collaborative content.
So perhaps the software running wikis can be decentralized. Perhaps also, wikis can have functionality to reward people for editing, and also allow for people to tip one another cryptocurrency. Individuals who run nodes of the decentralized wikis can be rewarded with cryptocurrency. Perhaps MediaWiki or WordPress can be forked, edited, or have plugins/extensions created to support decentralization and cryptocurrencies. Perhaps readers can mine cryptocurrency in their browser while viewing content from the wiki, or perhaps a decentralized advertising platform could serve ads to users who do not contribute to the wiki, and who do not want to mine cryptocurrency in their browser. Perhaps viewing the content of the wiki (which could include text, pictures, video, and audio) wiki can be free to all. More closely examining cryptoeconomics can determine what the best sustainable structure might be. It will be interested to see if wiki technology can be decentralized and incentivized using blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

Anyone know of a good tool bag for tech tools? And any suggestions for tools that are very useful to have?
I work in the IT department at my school. The job consists of pretty basic to intermediate (I guess?) troubleshooting and fixes. I swap, wipe, and clone/image hard drives. I do other basic stuff inside computers (swapping out or adding ram, CPUs, etc. I don’t really modify parts.) This summer I’ll be doing a good bit of network related work around campus so I can imagine I’ll be tipping some cables. I’d love to hear some suggestions on a good tool bag with good organization options for all of the tools I’d need (or may not need.) I’m also open to any suggestions on tools that I should consider investing in!

Which components should I test to help diagnose this laptop video problem? It works with hdmi out only, after a probable short occurred on the motherboard.
My buddy was attempting to replace his keyboard and said he accidentally let some metal make contact with the main board. Afterwards he can only use hdmi to his TV and the internal screen never lights up at all.
I took it apart and thoroughly tested the cables. I was hoping to find a short in the main lvds. After some testing with the multimeter and seeing that pins 3 and 9 are shorted together, I unraveled the cable hoping to find an unintended short there. The cable integrity looks good. I noticed that pins 3 and 9 are both black so I am going to assume that this normal because they are both ground.
I am now at a crossroads where I believe it to need a new LCD panel or a new motherboard. I would like to do further testing on the motherboard before ordering one of those two parts. Which components should I test specifically?
Here is a picture! https://i.imgur.com/MwTJoKR.jpg
If I don't get any replies here my plan is to order a new lcd since it is only $40 even though I know it is probably motherboard problem.

Please help our study on parental attitudes towards storytelling robots for their kids.
Hi there! We are inviting parents whose kids are younger than 7 years of age to fill out our survey on storytelling robots. This survey is part of a study being conducted by Indiana University that aims at investigating parental acceptance and attitudes of storytelling robots for their kids and will inform the future design of robots for kids.
It should not take more than 15-20 minutes of your time. Two hundred participants will be randomly selected following a random drawing to receive a $5 Amazon credit (a digital gift card for Amazon shopping). The survey was distributed on February 7, 2018, and the drawing will be conducted on March 1, 2018. After March 1, you can complete the survey if you choose, but you will not receive any compensation for doing so. Personal identifiable information will only be collected for payment records.
For more information about the study: contract the researchers at lin98@iu.edu and brady@iupui.edu. For general information about participant rights, contact the Indiana University Institutional Review Board at (812) 856-4242 or via email at irb@iu.edu.
We'd appreciate it if you participate in this survey! Link to the survey: https://iu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8tYqRw05QRWt08t

Got the S9 and S9+ ask me anything!
I got the S9 and S9+ rev 1.1 so it’s very close to the final product and I would say if you are going to buy the S9 it looks on par with the S8 and performs like with normal use but if your going with the plus it has dual lens camera and about a 1.5 day battery life... If your currently on the S8 I wouldn’t upgrade unless you find a really good deal and I do not know anything about pricing or release date. The phones are also thicker and heavier and they don’t feel as glossy as the S8 the S9 has a much better grip. If you have any questions about this device I will try to answer it

Future technology blogs, podcasts or YouTube channels.
I’m looking for a current podcast, blog or YouTube channel (as of February 2018) that weekly posts a podcast about a hypothetical future technology idea or concept. I’m looking to see creative ideas. I’ve tried many things but none seem to do what I want. The closest was Level Up Human with its Extras but I need something that is weekly. One week agricultural robots the next week black hole starship. Stuff like that. Isacc Arthur I’ve tried and it’s too space oriented. I’m looking for variety.

HyperX Cloud 2 microphone problems on Xbox One
So as of recently my mic has not been working on the Xbox One. The sound comes through perfectly fine. I can hear everything but the mic is not picking up my voice.
I know it is not the headset itself because it works fine on my computer. I have tried everything i can find on the internet. Reset my xbox, my controller, updated my controller, made sure i am not muted in settings or in party chat, tried a different controller, tried a bunch of different techniques that i found on youtube etc. Nothing has worked
The only option i see left is to buy a new adapter for my controller to see if that fixes it but i would definitely want to avoid spending the money if i dont have to. Any help resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Exploring parental attitudes towards storytelling robots

Looking for feedback on my tech startup Lendr, a peer-to-peer renting app!
Hey guys,
I'm part of a tech startup called Lendr, and we just launched our Android Beta last week. Our app facilitates peer-to-peer renting of household items between people within their communities. For example, if you have a snowblower, you can list it on Lendr and people in your area will be able to rent it from you.
We exist because in many cases it's smarter to rent an expensive item you'll only need a couple of times as opposed to outright buying it. Not only is renting easier on your wallet, but it’s easier on the environment as well due to the sharing and re-using aspect of renting goods.
Furthermore, we provide a way for people to earn recurring passive income from the stuff they have laying around their house. Depending on the types of items you may have, you can make a pretty significant income renting out your stuff.
There's still a race to capture the peer-to-peer renting market. We stand out from the others because of our emphasis on safety and security of both our users and their items. We currently have very effective security measures in place such as ID verification and security charges, and we plan to implement even more features upon our full release to virtually eliminate the possibility of theft and fraud, and to fully account for lost or damaged goods.
Anyways, we're just looking for feedback on the idea and any questions, thoughts, comments or concerns you guys may have.
If you want to learn more, you can check out our site at www.lendr.info and if you have an Android device, you can download the Beta version here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lendr.app&hl=en
Thanks!
tl;dr: we made a peer-to-peer renting app, what do you think about it? www.lendr.info

A couple of questions about the HomePod/Siri
With the release of the HomePod, and me being somewhat of a fan of Apple (yeah, sue me), I was interested in picking up maybe the 2nd or 3rd gen. However, after reading the reviews I've found, although it sounds incredible, there is a lack of Spotify support (bummer).
Now as I first saw it, it seemed like Apple were being a bit douchey not having support for third-party media players. However, a personal experience showed that you can in fact control Spotify with Siri, but only for play/pause, next/previous track and volume. You can't ask Siri to find a specific song on Spotify for premium users. You can't ask her to play a certain genre, mood, playlist on Spotify. I finally learned that there is a thing known as SiriKit for developers, which allows Siri to perform tasks on their apps.
This leads me to my questions: -Is it Spotify who are supposed to integrate Siri with their app? -Is Apple not allowing other developers to use Siri for their media players? -What is the likelihood of expanded Siri support coming to Spotify in the near future?

Wall Mounting the Acer 43" MONITOR
I got the Acer 43 inch monitor a few weeks ago and it is great. But due to the size of the monitor, it takes up quite a bit of my desk space, which currently isn't an issue. But I will be building my own custom office/desk here in the next few weeks and want to mount it to the wall to avoid the issue I currently face.
The monitor definitely takes a monitor mount and not the TV size mounting.
My question is essentially:
-Does anyone know of a wall monitor mount that can support up to 30lbs?
OR
-Are there TV mounts that have both TV and monitor sizing on them?

THE DEATH OF WINDOWS AND LINUX IS COMMING 2020
Intel and AMD just reached the smallest you can make a processor, in 2 years Snapdragon and Samsung will catch up. All their processors will be the same speed, but Intel and AMD ones are 50x less efficient. Therefore everyone uses Snapdragon and Samsung so Intel and AMD fall. Everyone now uses Snapdragon and Samsung processors apart from Apple who makes their own and everyone uses Android and an iOS for all things Apple on their devices because these Operating systems work best on those CPUs. Laptops and PCs will also use iOS and the new Apple OS, they will just have a different interface. This will be the fall of Windows along with Microsoft, Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, Linux and many other brands. After Processors reach the smallest point we will focus more on Cameras, battery life storage and other great stuff we care about, Neural Processing will be a big thing people compete to be best at. This will bring us to the new Mobile Age of Android and AppleOS. IT WILL BE GREAT!!!

How much are apps like Assistant and Facebook are listening to us?
Last week I was talking about a feature Google Maps should introduce and today when I was trying to navigate somewhere, I saw that new feature! This can be a coincidence but the next one can't! I was talking to my with my friend in my room about shipping a package from one country to another, after some time while I was browsing Facebook, it showed me an advertisement for shipping packages from one country to another at cheap rates. There are few other instances but I think these should be enough to make my point. So, what do you think about it?

Jaybird Run, Pixel Buds, or Samsung Gear X. I care about audio quality and battery life the most. I'm running a note 8 if that helps.

I have a mouse that doesn’t work when its own software is installed. Anyone know why this is?
Hello, I believe that the title pretty much explains what I’m asking. Basically, I have a Redragon gaming mouse. It works great. Then, I install the software via the disk that it came with it. Once the software is done installing, its lights go off, and the mouse is unresponsive. When I uninstall the software, it works great again. Ironic, it’s incompatible with its own software.
I have tried everything I can think of. I have switched USB ports, I have restarted my PC, I have even booted into safe mode. Still no luck.
Thanks, if you know why this could be happening, please tell me!

Is rooting my phone a bad idea?
I want to be able to get free fonts and my note 8 does not support it.
My friend suggested I root my phone and the problem will be fixed. Only rooting it will void the warranty and so I'm not sure.
Is it a bad idea?

What‘s the best laptop up to 900€ for mainly browsing and student work usage?
First I wanted a MacBook but I think a decent one might be too expensive so yeah. I‘ll mostly be using the laptop for student projects, browsing and stuff, no gaming. Also it would be perfect if it was around 600€ but I‘ll gladly accept other suggestions.
Edit: I live in Germany if that helps.

Both Android and iphones should have an 'Office Setting' so when you hit play for music or a podcast, it can give you a pop up warning: "No Headphones or BlueTooth Device Connected"
I listen to podcasts and music at work, and got REALLY lucky, as I was listening to a podcast with swearing and it played on full blast for a few seconds because my headphones were not pushed all the way into the jack. This setting could save JOBS.

Any ideas of who accepts sponsors and costs?
I'm currently working for a small technology company for computer peripherals. I was wanting to see if anyone may have some suggestions on how to get our foot in the door as far as becoming a sponsor for different technology companies such as Microsoft, Apple, USB standards, etc. If anyone has any ideas or contacts that may be reachable, please feel free to let me know. Thanks!

ESD wristband battery
I seem to collect static charge like crazy. Every time I touch metal I ground and spark. It hurts. I was wondering if there was anti static band that could sink this charge into a battery I could discharge into a phone or something.
