Does Artificial Intelligence help in understanding emotions of people in social media? If so, can it be used to influence in favor or against a government or even a brand/business?

Fake news have been spreading all over social media but in my opinion AI can be used to reinforce them or block them. From what I am noticing though, fake news remain prevalent in Facebook. Is it possible that it can easily be manipulated by those who are paying for ads and social media managers to have an election to be in their favor? As for businesses, I think the same can also be applied.
