Aerial 3D holograms a.k.a Plasma holograms in mid-air. Yes, like in Star Wars!

So a development and a potential implementation of aerial (plasma) holograms was in my mind for quite some time and I’ve managed to dig up just a couple of articles on that matter. One about Aerial Burton and their Aerial 3D holos. One about DNG (Digital Nature Group) with their “fairy lights” powered by femtosecond laser and spatial light modulator.

The latter is far more detailed and received a wider coverage in media back in 2015, however they seemed to move past their holos research into 3D printing and other fields. Burton guys seem to completely abandon their website, however, judging by what’s still there, I can see their technology is much different and doesn’t use femtosecond lasers. They call it plasma laser but it’s not clear what this actually means. Any ideas here? Burton’s tech also seems more compact -> Link.

To conclude, it seems to me this laser hologram tech has enormous potential (given it will be developed) but both groups haven’t given any updates. Have you heard of any news/researches beside these two? I will be happy to get any hints for my own further research.

Also the exact naming of such thing is yet to be established, so be happy to offer your options 👍
