Power Xbox one controller with phone charger
Hi! I was thinking if it's possible to get rid of the batteries in Xbox one controller by connecting it wirelessly and powering it with a wall charger. You can plug it to an USB and it gets powered, and USB 3.0 gives 5V and 0.9A, so you should be able to power it with a 5V and 0.9A charger. I got a 5V 1.1A charger it shouldn't be a problem I think. Is this even possible?

Would it be possible to create an engine which is friction-less?
Today while thinking about the issues I had been having with my vehicle I noticed most were due to some kind of friction in the engine. Just as a thought I was wondering if there was a way to create an engine where the only friction was where it was absolutely needed. Would it be feasible to create an engine using something like magnets and alternating currents to increase the performance and reduce damages from physical connections? If something like this already exist I would like to see it and how it compares to traditional engine, what pros and cons it has, and if it would be actually applicable in the real world.

Go Pro beginner's advice
Hello! My friends and I are always doing something stupid. When it's all over, I think to myself "damn, I really wish I had recorded that". Sometimes I am able to record it on my phone, but not always because we are often on bikes and I need both hands for that. This is why I would like a go pro, however I'm not 100% sure of what type of go pro I should get/ what accessories I should get with it in order to be hands free. I would like some advice on what type of go pro I should look for that could be rather less expensive then some of the newer ones and what type of accessories I should get (or if they even exist) so that I 1. Don't look like a COMPLETE fool, 2. I don't have to worry about water or mud damaging the camera, and 3. Night vision? Thanks, I am really lookin forward to your advice and have a good one!

Good alternatives to a fingerprint sensor on phones?
So i bought a LG G3 a few months ago. It's fast, doesn't lag, the batery life is great(even for a power user like me), the camera is great, has a removable batery(the main reason I bought it over something like huwawei p9 lite) and it's also quite cheap. The only thing I miss is a fingerprint sensor, so what are some alternatives to that? Typing a password is too slow, patterns are also too slow, and knock code, while the best lock feature built in, is very annoying. What alternatives to a fingerprint sensor would you recommend?

Directing and Managing internet bandwidth
Is it possible to direct more bandwidth to a specific computer?
So I'm in a dorm with two other roommates, my connection is extremely unreliable, when downloading a game/app I can download from 600 KB's/sec to 50 MB's/sec. Is there an app that I can download to direct more of the bandwidth to my computer? or going into the command prompt and manually set it up?
some days my internet struggles to even load webpages(So I'll go use the neighbors connection if needed) which is extremely problematic if I need to do homework.
I'm not a genius when it comes to networking/programming, so a step by step would be extremely appreciated if I have to go into the command prompt window.

DNS servers
Ok, i'm not exactly sure if this is the right group for these questions, but here they are;
-
When you look something up, the packets go from your computer to the dns server to the internet to retrieve the site, then back to your computer, correct? (When coming back from internet does the packet go through the dns server and to your computer? Or just strait from the internet to your computer) (Assuming the website ip isn't already on the logs of the DNS server)
-
Your isp hosts a dns server, correct? Or does it automatically connect to one of googles DNS servers? (Assuming your not hosting one)
Thank you!

Are physical remote 'buttons' a thing?
I'm confronted with a problem that's only a problem because I'm a thoroughly lazy person. Often I find that I want to do something trivial from a distance only to realize that nothing in my house allows me to. Typically this involves turning on my computer, or adjusting the physical volume knob of a receiver or amplifier.
The thing I've found closest to what I'm looking for is the relay [switch], but I was thinking there ought to be something more rudimentary and practical.
So I thought: would it be so crazy to have wireless buttons? You know -- buttons you'd press on one end that would then cause pressure to be exerted on the other end. You could use them to toggle light switches, open your garage, turn on an appliance...
I'm not sure what type of device would be needed to provide enough power to generate enough force for this task, or what design would enable it to do so at all, or what wireless technology would be used to link the two components (WiFi, Bluetooth? IR?).
Does anything like this exist yet? If not, how would I go about designing it? I've had very little luck with any keywords I've tried on Google. Any and all input is welcome and appreciated!

VMWare freezes and distorts Apple logo after trying to boot
I just started using VMWare to run Mac OSX on my laptop and whenever I try to boot the OS it freezes and blurs the apple logo and load bar all across the screen. The software was working properly a few days ago, but after trying to start it today it has been doing this ever since. I just updated VMWare to the most recent version while trying to launch, so maybe this messed up the booting. I did do a restart of the VM and the host and it still is giving me this problem. If anyone can give me some help that would be amazing, thank you!!

Muzo - How is it working?
Hey I just recently saw the Kickstarter video about Muzo. For my understanding nearly everything which is shown is possible but I don't understand how is the "secrete mode" should work. How should this device hide the things outside the 'bubble' but inside you can hear it? Is it even possible? And if you are closer to the sound source than the device wouldn't you heare the noise for a short time because it reaches you first and the device haven't the time to react? And what is about suddend things like thunder?
Sorry I'm not that good at english but I think its understandable.

Amazon Go gives me an uncomfortable itch
If you take into account that in 2016 Amazon surpassed Google in product searches, and they clearly have plans to add physical retail locations data to their systems with Amazon Go, there’s no telling how big Amazon’s potential is. The question is: do we like the idea of one company being in control of that much data?
Personally, stories like this make me think of Dave Egger’s the Circle. With Facebook's focus on live video, I thought Facebook might become the real life version of the company in the book, I was even surprised by it because I always thought it’d be Google. But now, maybe Amazon is the one to keep an eye on.
My closing thought: the potential of having too many data at the disposal of one company always gives me an itch. An uncomfortable itch.
What do you think?

I remember for awhile I thought it would be smart watches, but after seeing the massive amount of investment from companies and only the most gradual trickle of sales, it's clear smart watches won't be a mass market item. Thinking further out, I think the next transformative technology will have to be the eventual implementation of self-driving cars. What do you guys think?

Is there a service that automatically processes texts as orders through a two-way system?
What I am looking for is this:
Client A sends a text with the order of the item that s/he wishes to purchase.
The actual text of the order is then sent to B) the customer service rep who takes the order on the other side and C) the business's archive/journal/books that will later be accounted for.
What I wish to achieve is that for every "text order" that gets sent it is automatically archived in a system separately, so that the customer service rep does not have to input that information himself.
Does such a service exist?

Google VR outperforms all other VR platforms in 2016.
Interesting to think that Cardboard might represent a much easier route in to VR for developers and users alike. Having used several VR and AR devices, I am most excited by Google VR. Maybe because I can't afford a Vive and I already own a phone but this way I can more easily share my experiences with others.
What do you guys think? Is this a neat fad or a paradigm shift?
For me I'm just stoked that more and more technologies are being developed, making it so much more likely that VR can one day be 'mainstream '.

Tech patented by Google
I'm studying engineering in Norway, and i really want to start a project while taking my degree. I came across a patent (that will remain undisclosed) owned by google. Note that there is no market for this yet.
So, to cut to the chase, I'm wondering whether or not it's worth working with as it's something that has enormous potential (in my eyes), but as previously mentioned, the patent for it is owned by google. My initial though was just to leave it, but i can't get my mind off it. I though I might work with it and perhaps write by bachelors thesis on this, and potentially make it into a business and compete with google when it reaches the market.
Any thoughts if it's possible to make a business out of it when they launch their products? Or should I just do it as a project?

Hey guys, figured this sub would be the best place to ask. I'm in need of several websites, blogs, etc. which update often and display information that has happened within the past few hours. PC related tech would be preferable, but anything related will do.
I need approximately 20 new, fresh tech things per day. Extra bonus point if the sites have an RSS feed.

Is anti-virus software dead?
I was reading one of the recent articles published on the topic and I was shocked to hear these words “Antivirus is dead” by Brian Dye, Symantec's senior vice president for information security.
And then I ran a query on Google Trends and found the downward trend in past 5 years.
Next, one of the friends was working with a cloud security company known as Elastica which was bought by Blue Coat in late 2015 for a staggering $280 million dollars. And then Symantec bought Blue Coat in the mid of 2016 for a more than $4.6 Billion dollars.
I personally believe that the antivirus industry is in decline and on the other hand re-positioning themselves as an overall computer/online security companies.
How do you guys see this?

What DJI drone should you be looking at in 2017?
As we advance in years, we know that drones are becoming a hot topic. I figured that I would make a quick, comprehensive list on what DJI beginner and enthusiast drone YOU should look at in 2017.
DJI Phantom 3 Standard
Probably the most known body style for a drone, the Phantom 3 by DJI is a staple in the aerial videography/photography community. Retailing at around $400, the Phantom 3 Standard offers “up to” a half mile range; a 2.7k, 12 megapixel-stabilized camera, Smartphone/table connectivity via WiFi, 720p playback from a livestream from the drone itself, intelligent fly modes, and much much more. Currently, this is the drone I have been using, as it was affordable, and easy to use. Marketed as “the perfect drone for beginners,” DJI has created an affordable, easy to use quadcopter that is available to anyone looking to join the drone market.
DJI Phantom 3 Professional
Similar to the DJI Phantom 3 Standard, the professional model is the next move up. It offers everything the Standard model does, BUT has a 4k camera, longer range (up to 3.1 miles), Vision Positioning allowing for easy indoor flights. This drone retails at around $800 and is perfect for those who want to take their drone footage to the next level, without dropping over $1000.
DJI Phantom 3 Advanced
The DJI Phantom 3 Advanced is the middle-ground between the Phantom 3 Standard and Professional Models. The Advanced keeps the 2.7k camera from the Standard model, while adding the extended range from the professional model. It also includes the Professional’s Vision Positioning sensors, allowing for easy indoor flights. Strangely enough, this model is retailing as well at around $800 on DJI’s website.
DJI Phantom 4
Here we go, the bad-ass, new drone that has officially put DJI on the map. Used by tons of people including Casey Neistat and iJustine, the Phantom 4 offers all new tech. With the addition of brand new sensors to avoid collisions, Object tracking, and TapFly, the DJI Phantom 4 offers an array of new features to give you cinematic-quality content. It is now EVEN EASIER to fly your drone, as you are able to avoid obstacles, tap where you want to fly, track a specific object, and fly even faster. The Phantom 4 offers a sport mode, allowing your drone to fly up to 44 miles-per-hour, allowing you to get to where you want to go, quicker. The Vision Positioning sensor has been revamped, now allowing a vertical range of up to 10 meters. The Phantom 4 also has a dual compass module, allowing for more accurate tracking. This is the drone that you want if you are really ready to become an enthusiast. With a reduced price tag of $1000, now is the perfect time to get this drone.
DJI Mavic PRO
Currently on backorder, the Mavic Pro is the hottest topic in the drone industry. The foldable, portable, 4k drone is the perfect solution for those who are active, and travelling constantly. Almost able to fit into your pocket, The Mavic Pro weighs just 743g (1.63 pounds). The Mavic Pro comes with all of the features of the Phantom 4. This includes the sensors to avoid crashes, dual compass, tracking, sport mode, tap flight, and so on. What the Mavic has to offer though, is the 4.34-mile range (7km). Now you can fly your drone EVEN FURTHER before losing connection. Retailing at $1000, this is also the drone you may want.
DJI Phantom 4 PRO
Yes, the badass has become even more badass. The newest release from DJI has made the Phantom 4 even better. The camera now shoots 4k footage in 60 fps. The collision avoidance is now able to sense 5 directions. The camera also has a 20-megapixel sensor and a mechanical shutter (similar to the shutter on a DSLR). Two new modes to mention are the DRAW mode, allowing waypoint flights to be drawn before flown (normally you would fly your course and drop waypoints along the way), and also the ActiveTrack mode, allowing the Phantom 4 Pro to track moving objects automatically. The ReturnToHome feature is upgraded with collision avoidance, and selfies can be captured with gestures. The drone can now get a full 30 minutes of flight time, and manual camera controls were added in the newest DJI GO update. The Phantom 4 Pro retails at $1200.
THINGS TO CONSIDER: • All drones have Return-to-home meaning that they can fly a straight path back to your homepoint. • All drones average around 27-28 minutes of flying time (varies based on movement speeds and usage). • The Mavic Pro has the cheapest battery, averaging a cost of $85. • The Mavic Pro has had cases of the drone disconnecting and auto-landing (sometimes in water). • The Phantom 3 Standard is the only drone to use an integrated WiFi connection. The rest use DJI’s Lightbridge technology, allowing for longer ranges. • There are even more professional drones available from DJI that were not included in this list. This is because they are recommended for professionals, not beginners or enthusiasts. • I have only tested the Phantom 3 Standard, but have done tons of research and observed many of the other models. • All drones come with a controller and one battery (unless bought in an accessory bundle). • All drones work well, but the more money you spend, the nicer the features that the drone has to offer. • DJI offers insurance that covers operator error (HIGHLY RECOMMEND PURCHASING).
Overall I would recommend the Phantom 3 Standard for beginners, the Phantom 3 Professional for intermediates, and the Phantom 4 for Enthusiasts. If you are active and take your drone traveling a lot, then I would look into the Mavic Pro. The reason I don’t recommend it is because it is brand new, and still has some kinks to fix. The Phantom 4 is a reputable drone, used by thousands of people. Either way it is your choice. If there are bugs, DJI does a great job at releasing patches to fix this quickly.
I hope this was helpful, let me know if you have any other questions!

What is a good alternative for google voice on a windows phone?
To be more specific.... I am trying to find a downloadable app where I can register a phone number and link it to my already existing number. Google voice allows you to do that, except it's not available on the Windows phone.
I've tried Textplus and TextNow, and they're HORRIBLE. Any alternative where I can register a number and use it like Google Voice? I am trying to get it for free :)
