Leak Tips 'Google Home Hub' Smart Display

Google will reportedly unveil a 7-inch smart display at its Oct. 9 event.

On Tuesday, pictures of the upcoming product, which it claims will be called "Google Home Hub." The device itself looks like a tablet that's been molded to the back of a speaker.

It'll function like a Google Home product, which comes integrated with the company's voice assistant software. But the addition of the 7-inch screen will let you do things like watch the news, view your calendar, and look at photos. According to the leaks, the device can also display a live feed from a Nest video doorbell camera.

However, the smart display doesn't appear to offer a full-blown version of Android. Leaked photos emphasize that Google Home Hub is designed for hands-free voice commands, though the screen does support touch.

The product will be offered in two colors, chalk and charcoal, and weighs in at about a pound. It can connect wirelessly over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

It isn't clear how much the Google Home Hub will cost. But if the leaks are real, the product will go up against Amazon's Echo Show a rival smart display product that launched last year. The Echo Show originally retailed at $229.99, but can now be bought for $129.

The Oct. 9 event, meanwhile, is expected to showcase Google's new Pixel 3 phones.
