China Is Way Ahead In Super-Speedy Wireless 5G Deployment
"Several telco hardware-makers have demonstrated download speeds of 10 gigabits per second. That’s a 1,000-times improvement over 4G. Latency will shrink to 1 millisecond, from the current LTE standard of 50 milliseconds. Network capacity will improve, too.
It will mean connected and self-driving vehicles. It will bring true broadband to remote locations. Virtual reality and the mobile internet will blossom with fast, always-on, always-connected, real-time experiences. Factories will benefit from ubiquitous sensors and networked smart robots.
The Chinese have spent $24 billion to build 350,000 new cell towers since 2015. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is forecasting an investment of $411 billion through 2030. For comparison, since 2015, only 30,000 towers were constructed in the U.S.

Hello guys a simple question (I'm not the best with tech)
Recently my Razer Raiju (PS4 CONTROLLER) USB cable got damaged and I had to switch. Now with controllers like these input lag is a top priority that's why it's wired only. Now my question is: Will it affect the response rate of my controller if the usb cable isn't its original or does it depend on the controller?
Thanks!

Can someone help put me on the path to clearing my internet footprint?
So to start, I haven't done anything illegal, just really embarrassing. I've been on the internet since I was 11 and back then I had no clue what i was doing. i would post pictures of myself for the world to see on yahoo answers, I joined porn sites and porn fetish sites, I got in arguments on forums I can't even remember anymore. I know some things are permanent, but what can I do to start finding everything I did and clearing what I can. I want to go public with my face and real identity soon, but I don't want people to be able to link me to my embarrassing past. So how do I start? I'm willing to learn a lot about tech in the process, and this doesn't have to be quick. I can spend months learning the necessary background knowledge, so please point me to that if you think there's a lot of learning I need to do first.I understand that what I did is just part of who I am and i shield;t be ashamed. Im not, but I just don't want to have to deal with all that, na mean? Ideas so far:
-Make a list of all my email accounts i've ever made, access them, find out which accounts/websites those are connected to.
-Go through all of my social media account histories, clear embarrassing parts
-google myself and every online identity I've ever used.
-take the position of someone trying to dig up dirt on me and see what they would do.
-Please help friends

Cable Management
For lack of a better space to put it.... I enjoy the sub battlestations. It's always fun to see what folks have come up with. The one question I keep seeing pop up is suggestions for cable management. If you are starting from scratch, my favorite desk is simply 2 ends (alex drawers work great) with a countertop on it. This gives you more space and color choices. You will need to drill several holes for desk grommets. To do this, flip the top over and drill from the bottom. Put some masking or gaffers tape on the laminate side as extra protection. Drill a starter hole about 2 inches in. This will give you enough space for your holes without cracking the top. Use a hole saw (I recommend Disson Remgrit) equal to the base of the grommet. Push down straight and slowly. Once you have your holes, take some pvc (1.5" diameter should do), measure lengths from grommet to grommet. Mount with brackets from the hardware store. Now flip the top over, run cables thru holes and feed thru pvc. A neat presentation without much bother or expense

Question about smart watch
Hi,
I'd like to purchase a smart watch but can't decide if I should take the S3 Frontier, galaxy watch or the Huawei watch GT.
I work at a construction site so durability and resistance is a big part in choosing. Also if there would be a case available and/or screen protector like tempered glass or a 2 part case for around and top of the watch.
I hope you guys can help me a bit with your personal experience and technical details.

Is there a point in watching movies of Blu-ray 1080p quality on a laptop? Clarification in the description.
If this sub is not the correct place to ask this, I apologize. Please direct me to where I should ask instead. Thank you.
My brother has movie files of Blu-ray 1080p quality - he says he wants to collect the best possible quality graphics. Those files are always around 5-8 GB sizes. I like to collect movies as well, some are in normal 1080p quality, and they're about just a bit over 1 GB. My laptop is a good quality gaming laptop; comparing the two graphics, I don't see any difference.
I think my brother may be wasting memory space for these movies; we only watch on our computers, we don't own Blur-ray players or high end TVs. If there is no graphical difference, is there a point at all?

How much is my GPU still worth?
Who here would pay for "Tech Support For The Technically Inclined?"
I was just thinking how helpful this would be. How often do you have an issue with a product that is out of your hands and you have to call the company. You get put in the phone with some idiot who asks you if you tried turning it off and back on again. We need a service that provides tech support to us who are technically inclined and can skip basic troubleshooting that you know will not work. Just a thought

If the phones first have come out with retractable camera then the notch would be a great solution
Title says it all but let me explain. If the retractable cameras were here first to increase screen estate, then we'd all complain about impracticality and the broken or squeaky hinges. When the notches would be the answer to that, then we'd be pleased to see this solution for; containing IR hardware and front cam, no retractable-moving parts, not taking too much but let's the status bar icons on the sides. And I believe even someone would tell it gives some aesthetic character to those plain (and all lookalike) rectangular phone displays.
Those retractable cam phones will be swept away from the market in a short notice.

A guide for protecting data privacy in schools
There was an article in Forbes this week about protecting data privacy in schools, which as a mum is something I have thought about recently. I guess I am posting it here for people to read, however I also wanted people's opinions about it - am I being too overzealous caring about it, or is it a fair fear to have? Just wanted some points of view. The article is here for anyone interested in reading it : https://www.forbes.com/sites/petergreene/2018/10/18/a-guide-for-protecting-data-privacy-in-schools/

Who remember the whole modular phone idea? I remember it just didnt work, there were too many problems. It wasn't worth the time of the engineers to keep going. With all the phones removing my headphone jack, I keep thinking about the project more and more. Many friends are turn off by the new trend too. What do you guys think, is it worth it to revive modular phones or is it a project best left dead?

Need help deciding what type of SSD to buy
Okay so I finally built my own PC, and to save money I used and old 5400RPM HDD and it's terrible. I finally have enough money to upgrade to an SSD but I'm conflicted about NVME vs SATA SSD's and which one is right for me. My main purposes are to game but hey loading times and boot-up times suck so performance does matter to me. Now, do you think I should buy a 1TB SATA SSD now, and then at some point in the future add a NVME SSD? Or instead, should I buy an NVME SSD (500GB is really all I can afford right now), and purchase a SATA SSD in the future for a storage drive. The latter option enables me to reinstall windows only once, which is nice. Do you think I will be happy with just a SATA SSD for a while? Give me your thoughts, thanks.

Is the Surface Pro 6 worth buying over the Surface Pro 2017?
The device itself seems a bit overpriced considering the specs. I could build a PC with better specs for half the price. But anyway, I'm a sucker for beautiful tech but didn't want to spend over a grand for the 2018 model. So instead spent £700 for the i5, 8gb, 128gb 2017 model.
Is the 2018 model actually worth spending those extra £500+ on? Or is it a small upgrade to the 2017 model?

Seems like something that'd be really useful for people who aren't sure of what they want to do.

Brand new tech news blog! We want the community to be involved.
Hey all! I’ve spearheaded the launch of a brand new tech news blog. It’s only been about a week and a half since it’s conception so it needs a lot of work but we believe the best way to create a solid product is to get the community involved. For that reason, I encourage anyone and everyone to take a look and let me know what changes you want to see. There is a feedback long in the footer of the site! It’s simply called Capacitiv. I’ll put a link below. I’m working Hard to juggle bettering the site and posting regularly so any and all support is appreciated. Thanks!

CD-R Problems
Hey... I have a question:
I bought a CD-R for my old car's stereo to play my tunes on it. The CD-R was 700 mb so I loaded it up with 116 songs (its maximum capacity). Once I finished burning the disc (format: MP3), I popped it in the car and I started hearing weird noises in the songs as if it can't load them quick. What can I do to avoid weird noises? Should I load less songs for the car stereo to load? *The CD-R was unscratched and brand new.

Friend Thinks Android is Trash
Hi, I've recently switched from and iPhone 6 I've been using for 3 or 4 years, and I just switched to a Samsung Note 9. My friend is "phone-shaming" me per-say. I don't understand where his hatred comes from.
For me this is a good change, I get: A cheaper phone. A better camera than I had, albeit worse than the iPhone X. Expandable storage, more customization, and the ability to play emulators and download apps that are not on the PlayStore
He claims that all his androids (which were hand-me-downs btw) were laggy and all around awful. Apps would shut down etc etc. I just think because they were cheap. However, I do have to say that he did bring up a good point when he said that Apple was more uniform and sleek looking. All in all I just think its because he has yet to try a premium android.
What are your opinions on the matter?

What laptop or tablet should I buy?
I just got a refund from Dell for my £1800 Dell XPS 15 9570. As nice as it was to have an i7 laptop with a 4K display and GTX 1080, 16gb RAM etc. I just don't think the laptop warranted the price tag.
So basically instead of just buying a standard shitty laptop, with a budget of around £600, what device would you recommend?
I want at least a 1920x1080 display, 8GB of RAM, a decent i5. I'll use it for storing files and photos. For editing photography shots in Photoshop (so will require some decent speed) and web browsing. No gaming or anything hugely intensive. I would be open to one of those tablets that have windows on them as long as it's not dog shit. Any recommendations?
Hell, I'll go pre-owned if it's in good condition. I don't want a PC. I would prefer either a 13 inch laptop or a tablet for easily portability!

Why aren't there any Type C USB FLASH drives around yet?
I can't seem to track down a tiny foot print USB TYPE C (only) Flash drive. Is this just not available yet? Is there a technological reason these aren't everywhere on the market? There are only a few million soldiered hard drive MacBooks out there that can never have a drive upgrade. I'd love to put a tiny 128GB or 256GB flash drive in.
The footprint of the "PNY Elite-X Fit USB 3.0 Flash Drive" would be a dream!
PNYs website says they are out of stock on all of them. Can't find anywhere with P-FD256TBAT4TC31-GE, P-FD512TBAT4TC31-GE or P-FD128TBAT4TC31-GE in stock. And it looks like they became products in April.
Maybe I just need to be patient.

So I bought some tech and now I got a problem
Hello, everyone on reddit. I recently bought a USB flash drive and when I check to see the flash drive it was completely empty. There was no white card inside to keep track of data or store files. It was simply an empty flash drive with nothing in it. Have any of you ever had his experience buying tech? Am I supposed to enter something into, such as some memory card. It wouldn’t make much sense but you never know. Have any of you had an experience with some? This is why I hate buying tech online sometimes. Shit like this happens.

Does any website or app like that exist that I can use for very early information on their appearances? thanks in advance

The real cost of owning an iPhone X vs Note 8
I just realized that what we pay for the device is not the cost of owning it. So let’s take the iPhone X and Note 8 as example.
iPhone X $1,000 new Note 8 $950 new
Rough weighted lower average cost on Swappa used iPhone X $690 Note 8 $400
Cost to own for 1 year iPhone X $310 Note 8 $550
Just thought I’d share that. Kinda interesting.

The neighbors across the street always beep their security gate and it’s loud af
I would get it if beeped when it opened. But it goes off randomly. I don’t think they know how to use it. It’s very annoying at the same time I don’t think they even know. They are super paranoid people, so I don’t think I can talk to them. And tech people know about this kind of stuff?

headphone cords are outdated, what else is ancient tech?
People just don't wear headphones with cords anymore, or at least it seems that way in the city I live in.
Seriously, headphones with wires/cords are so 1990s. Do people who still wear non-wireless headphones realise how oldschool they look with a long wire coming out of their head?
The days of headphones with wires are over, seriously a beeper seems more technologically advanced than a set of headphones with some long ass wire coming out of it...
Does anyone here still keep it 'retro' and opt for headphones with big cords?
You know what else is ancient history? Computer mouses! Who, apart from baby boomers and people who have been too cheap to buy a macbook and thus missed the touchpad wave, still uses a mouse? Some big clunky unnecessary piece of ancientness, akin to a tape cassette walkman.
Something else that's becoming a laughing stock? Mobile phones with buttons and plastic frames. Whoever hasn't got an iPhone X or above still puts up with this.
Basically, headphone cords have quickly become extremely oldschool, computer mouses have become loserish and these days I cant help but think 'dude, you're still rocking a phone with a button'...
Thoughts?
