Would I be doing damage to my tablet if I charged it with a different adapter?
I can't seem to find the original adapter anywhere as the owner seems to have lost it.
From some google searches I see that a replacement adapter for this tablet is 2A.
I've found a universal samsung adapter that is 1A.
It seem like a good fit, could I use the samssung adapter to power the tablet without damaging it at all?
Thanks for the help!

As some backround, I really like the Surface Book but I am going to college soon and will be majoring in aerospace engineering and everywhere I look, ThinkPads keep popping up. So I really have two questions: what separates the two? Does it really matter for an engineering major which one?

Are we in a bubble? And will there be a clear-cut "oh shit" moment when the bubble bursts (e.g. A unicorn company failing or a bad day on public markets)?
My friends and I were debating what would be the moment where everyone declares "the bubble has burst." With the last dot com boom it was a few big flops and then a frenzied day for public markets.
Perhaps the ramifications on public markets will be less drastic. But the question remains, are we in a bubble and will there be a clear-cut "oh shit" bubble bursting moment?

Innovative Bluetooth Harddrive Devices for non-industrial nations?
I'm looking to play with an observation of technology markets characterized by a high density of bluetooth devices, namely that when you have a ton of bluetooth cellphones available the devices themselves form a network parallel to largescale data infrastructure.
The question is, how do you facilitate the spread of content on a such a network beyond giving it to your direct connections and hoping it gets shared to your target audience?
My thought is that this could be greatly aided by a cheap (less than $20USD) bluetooth device of any kind with at least 8GB of space and the ability to connect via bluetooth to other devices. You can then fill up these devices with your desired content and release them into the wild, where they'll continue to spread the content as long as people find them useful.
This could be a cheap cellphone, a wearable (like ReVault but much cheaper), a bluetooth harddrive with built-in navigation... Each device has it's own considerations, but I'm thinking there must be something out there that could be great benefit in this regard if well considered.
Absolutely any thoughts, including comment on other categories of devices or links to specific examples would be greatly appreciated.

My win10 is completely bugged!
Yesterday when I tried to boot off my pc it did not work. It told me it would update everything but it didn't. It still tells me this on the Shut down or sign out menu: Update and shut down, etc. it is not working though. I used to have 2 different boots, one of them being windows 10. Now in msconfig it tells my I have 1 boot being windows 8.1...... winver.exe tells me I'm running win10 tho. I can't connect with LAN although the lights are blinking and my headphones (logitech g430) suddenly don't work. My mouse (logitech g502) still does. If anybody knows whats wrong please help me! Photos: http://ift.tt/1TqByGo
Edit: my sound was disabled. Enabled it and now it says No audio devices installed. I think all my drivers might have uninstalled for some reason... Dafuq. Whenever i close the playback devices and recording devices and reopen it it asks me if I want to enable audio again. What. The. Fuck.
Edit 2: I think a lot of windows services are disabled. I can't use the picture password now either.

[Meta] For a community with almost 90,000 subscribers, more interaction in the comment section would be ideal. Why is it that the comment count is so low on /r/tech?
(I've seen these [Meta] posts before on Reddit so I hope this sort of thing is allowed on /r/tech. I think it's a good way for the community to air out its concerns in an open and honest way.)
Prompt
For a community with almost 90,000 subscribers, more interaction in the comment section would be ideal. Why is it that the comment count is so low on /r/tech? For example, the top post has ZERO comments even though it's theoretically on thousands of users front page right now.

Overclocked CPU throttles down .1GHz when not even under lots of heat
I have my 4790K overclocked to 4.6GHz at 2.15 V. Stress tests in OCCT go fine, and my max temp on only one core was 86, none exceeded 82 besides that.
However looking at results, at one instance at around 9 and a half minutes (ran for about 11) my CPU frequency drops to about 4.5, and looking at the data, there isn't even a max temp going on at that point during the test. CPU Clock is set at fixed, also power plan is high performance so it shouldn't be dropping, even though its only for one second.
This also happens during normal, not high CPU usage times like if I'm watching a video.
Is this normal for overclocking? It's not effecting my use of my PC at all, but I want to make sure my CPU isn't going to go potato or anything.

I built a custom DDNS system :D
My ISP is VirginMedia UK, and their router firmware is awful.
They do not have any settings for DDNS, and will not give me a static IP on a home package - so I got creative.
As I'm a geek, and have a few dedi servers floating about, I knocked up a simple system.
Cron runs every minute on a machine on your local network, and sends your unique user token via a HTTP header to a URL.
The webserver picks up the user token and compares your stored IP to the IP that is now accessing the page - if it has changed, it is updated in the database,
Then, on the webserver, a cron runs every minute to pick up changes in IP addresses - and then uses my domain providers API to update the hostnames assigned to the user token.
Anybody want to be a testing monkey for me? Send donations via paypal to... ;)

The reason I ask this is because I have 0.4mbs download speed, and whenever I see that "RalinkLinuxClient" is connected to my router, which by the way is hidden, I notice my Internet speed drop from 0.4mbs to 0.1mbs. What is it and how do I kill it.
P.S.- YES, it's actually 0.4mbs. NO, I cannot get faster Internet because I am paying for extended reach NO, I cannot change ISP's NO, I do not live in the middle of nowhere, I live in Jersey And YES, It sucks a lot of obscene things to have such terrible internet.

Will we ever come to a point that CPU's and GPU's uses less than a 1 watt ?
Since it's almost time for Polaris to be unveiled I got my myself wondering how efficient can we get power wise. Is there a hard limit of how little power a instruction can use ? Would be pretty cool if we could run 4 GPU's in Crossfire with passive cooling if even that without thinking about temperatures or your power bill.

Hi! I'm new here, so I'm sorry if I upset anyone. I need some help with my mouse.

I Don't Know What To Do With My Life
So I know that I want to do something with computers for a living, but I don't know what exactly I want to do nor do I know what degree I should get to get there.
I'm mostly interested in the hardware side of computers more than the software. I enjoy building them, comparing parts and researching to see which is truly better at a certain price, and I enjoy troubleshooting for my friends when they have problems. I took a Java class last semester and realized how much i dislike coding so I don't think that's really where I should head.
I'm going to try to get a job at a local family owned computer store. Other than that, the only prior experience I have is building my friend and I both a computer, and a school internship with our IT guy for a semester.
Any suggestions are welcome and if there's somewhere else you think I should post this, I'll be glad to move the post.

I need help deciding what to spend my money on.
So I have recently been thinking about spending my money on several things. These are: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and I will be using it for Media and playing simple games on the move since my current phone (Galaxy S4 Mini) is very laggy and has a bad battery. (Can get the S7 Edge for about 1000$). Upgrade my Gaming PC (Current Specs : Intel Core i3 3220, AMD Radeon HD 7700 Graphics, 8 GB of Ram) (Can get the GTX 1080, a new Motherboard, CPU and RAM for about 1200$ and I will be able to buy it in about 6 months then), Wii U for playing Nintendo Exclusives like Zelda (Can get the Wii U for about 300 - 400$) I have about 1000$ to spend and I would like some help to decide what to buy. Sorry for long text (This is a updated version of my old post.) / Thanks!

I may have found the evidence that Samsung is secretly taking pictures from your phone.
I woke up and my phone is right beside my ear, and i notice this wierd clicking noise coming from my phone. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo Plus. I checked where its coming from, i pressed the camera into my ear and confirmed it's coming from the camera. Thoughts come to my mind, maybe its a defect or something like hardware problem. I turned the screen on and listen again to the camera but the noise was gone. so i tried going to the camera application to see if operating it would make a sound. try different things taking photos, videos, continuous shots, auto focus, etc. But nothing resembles the clicking noise. I turned off the screen and the clicking noise was there again. Luckily my father have the same phone. so i check it and it does the same thing. it has this clicking noise in the camera when the screen is turned off. Now it is not any more a defect or hardware problem. So i think it was taking pictures. I tried another experiment. i've been connected to our wifi the whole time, so i tried turning it off. turned off the screen and pressed the camera to my ear. and poof it was gone. make sense. so it may be really taking pictures secretly. so i think i have malicious software or hacker got in my phone. so i format my phone and our wifi router (i think reseting this was unnecessary... well) for the sake of the experiment. so then my phone and network is refreshly formatted. so i booted up my phone and in the set up i didn't log in any account and turned off location etc and decline any data collections. so my phone is freshly formatted. nothing in it. turned off the screen pressed the camera into my ear.. nothing... then i connected to wifi. turned off the screen and pressed the camera into my ear... and theres the clicking noise coming from the camera... soooooo is Samsung secretly taking pictures or not? Conclusion: It secretly take pictures in rear cam when screen is off, making that clicking noise because it has mechanical components(camera with focus). and when screen is turned on means someone is using it .. the clicking noise was gone in rear cam maybe because its taking pictures from the front cam , no noise since it has no mechanical components(at least in my phone, front cam no focus). It needs internet of course so they can get them. Maybe you should try it in your phone. it should be connected to the internet. and camera has focus so it has mechanical noise when operating. turn off the screen. press the camera to your ear because its very low clicking noise. and may be it should be a samsung phone.

Pitching An Idea
Greetings one and all!
So I am coming to this group for some needed advice. The other day I came up with, what I think anyways, a great idea for a website/app. The problem is that I am not the most technological person in the world so I don't know how to pitch this. I would love to ask how people go about pitching an idea to a major company or even just pitching to someone to make a beta version of sorts to then pitch it for the real thing.
Any help or directions to this would be much appreciative.

User preference of raw video platforms vs video editing (e.g. Snapchat vs. iMovie)
Curious to hear thoughts about the future of raw video as compared to edited video. There's been an influx of apps on both ends of the spectrum. For raw (including live) video - Snapchat, Periscope, Meerkat, Facebook Live, and for video editing you have apps like iMovie, Splice, Magisto, an endless assortment, really. Any thoughts on which is more appealing to consumers and which will prevail?
