Illegal Youtube-Bot creates new Channels filled with stolen videos from other youtubers!
Today I found out that many of my YouTube videos were stolen and re-uploaded by other users. It looked like someone was copying all my videos and monetized them to make money out of them. I have since then filed many copyright complaints and most videos have been deleted, some channels have been blocked by YouTube.
However, when I checked the source-code in firefox on one of the stolen videos, I found out that they used the exact same keywords as I have, on each video! And they are all different!
So unless someone has way to much time to check all my keywords, I believe that there was some kind of BOT running and copying random YouTube channels.
So I did a bit of googling and I found THIS: http://ift.tt/2f6nmBM
This is exactly what is happening to my YouTube channel (and possible many others). The problem however is that there is nothing we can do about it. Yes we can file copyright complaints and their channel will get blocked, but they start a new one each time! I've had 5 different YouTube channels copying me in the last 2 days....
I wish I could inform YouTube about this directly, but I can't. And they are probably already aware of this.
Any toughs?

0 Display Memory HELP
I have a 980 TI GPU made by EVGA. I have contacted both them and nVidia, trying to increase my display memory from 0, as there is a game from around 2005 (black and white 2) that requires it. Apparently my custom built PC is beyond such trivial matters, as there is absolutely no workaround that I can find, and I am possibly the one person who has tried to play this game with such a GPU.
PLEASE HELP as I really liked this game, and am being denied by progress.

Will Tesla's solar shingles and outdoor battery packs be easy to steal?
Weird question I know, but I live in an extremely poor area that's a few blocks away from an extremely rich one. Their houses are commonly looted, and upon watching the new Elon Musk thing I couldn't help but think that those shingles must be so easy to steal and sell. This could be a very legitimate concern for people buying these, and I wonder exactly how securely they're going to be inserted into the roof. I hope Tesla considers a built in security alarm system.

Home cinema without boundaries breaks new ground
Xbox 1 black screen
Hey everybody. So I bought an xbox1 last night after putting it off forever but I really wanted to play Gears and 2K so it was perfect timing. So I stayed up all night playing Gears and at about 3am I took the disk out and started installing 2k. Of course during the installation, I fell asleep. I woke up about 4:30 on the floor and turned the system off by holding down the button on the console then I got in bed. I woke up at 6 hoping to play 2K and atleast draft my team before work. I turned on the system on by pressing the button on the console. It made a noise like it was turning on but it was just a black screen. After 10 long minutes I started researching how to fix this issue. I held down the button on the console and waited for it to turn off. I turned it back on and it went to a black screen. The logo or sound were not present. I waited another 15 minutes or so and then tried to turn it off by holding the eject button and power button. Turned it back on and it was still black. I checked the chords and they were still plugged in from last night when I was playing Gears. Not quite sure what the next solution or trouble shooting step would be. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated as I just want to play the damn game! I already miss the 360 days of just being able to put a disk in and play. Please help you awesome people of reddit.

Not to mention the charger from your old laptop wont work with the new one, the memory card from your camera doesn't have a slot and even that USB stick with all your docs and torrents on it needs a dongle.

How to get an unknown file working again?
Hey Reddit! I while back I was working on some work that i was trusted to keep "on the down low". I had a special folder with everything in it, and sometimes I would let friends use this flash drive and to keep them from opening it, I would take off the file extension so they couldn't open it.
I one day put it on Google Drive and forgot about it until today. When I downloaded it, I couldn't remember the extension I used, or if i had zipped it, then took it away. If i open it in a text editor, I see some English, some Chinese (at least that's what google says it is), and a bunch of random characters and boxes. I noticed the English letters actually formed words (the exact names of the sub-folders that used to be in the file!) when you removed the random characters/Unicode in between them. Below is an example of the text found with in.
Å9KGG 9KG A. D S _ S Ít o r e ÿÿ ÿÿÿÿ
which you might then notice this:
. D S _ S t o r e
Now I dont know exactly what this is, but I have seen it when I share things between windows and mac. Here's another example.
:KGÑH :KGU Bo u B r ¥e n n e r ÿÿÿÿ
This contains the name of one of my subfolders
B r e n n e r
So my question for you guys today, is how can I go about retrieving this old file/folder! It would be awesome if i can get back into it!

Looking to purchase an affordable yet good quality 3D printer for home use!
Hi /r/tech,
I'm looking to purchase a 3D printer at an affordable price yet with decent quality for home use and was hoping i could get some recommendations!
I've scoured the internet for worthy candidates but the sheer number of 3D printers is just too overwhelming. Furthermore, not having had any experience working with these printers, I was hoping someone could offer some advice!
I'm looking at a price range of maximum $600. Ideally, $400 and below would be great.
Oh and some questions I'd like to ask those who have used 3D printers before:
1) how often does the printer break down and require the parts to be replaced?
2) what is a reasonable price for 3D printer ink and how fast is it used up? Say printing a small object the size of my fist?
3) i saw some printers like the peachy printer which is really cheap! How reliable is this printer?
Thanks in advance! :)

Easiest way to convert HDMI to SCART?
Long story short:
I'm looking for clarification on whether or not this method will work before buying all of the parts.
Mum has old TV with only SCART inputs, but she wants to watch things via her laptop on her TV. Laptop's only output is HDMI. She's gonna wait until either black friday, or next mother's day to get one.
I've been looking around online, and I've come to the conclusion that it would be easiest via a HDMI-to-RGB converter, and then have an RGB to SCART.
So yeah, is there a simpler method to do this that I'm just not thinking of, or have I got the correct one?

Need help with old desktop
If I posted this on the wrong place, I'm sorry, I'm fairly new to Reddit. So, there's this computer that I've had since 2003, which we stopped using since about 2009, and since I'm trying to learn more about computers, I decided to take it and clean it, but I'm clueless. I decided to press the power button and it actually turned on, but without a screen it would be useless, so please bear with me now, I connected the PC to the monitor with a "15 spikes cable"(im so sorry) and turned both on but the monitor did not recognize the PC. Any tips on how to make it work? Is it even possible?

MajorDomo
24 years ago, in June 1992, MajorDomo was first released. Got to know about it while I was going through git's github repo. MajorDomo literally means 'Chief steward of a large household'. Its latest stable release was in Jan 2000, 16 years ago. Its a mailing list manager. Before world wide web and web browsers became popular, people had mail clients and mailing lists. So all subscribe and unsubscribe actions to mailing lists used to take place from mails. And thus, the mailing list managers were used! And they are still being used.

The Mars Society's University Rover Challenge Documentary
Each year, student engineering teams from around the world immerse themselves in designing, building, and testing the next generation of Mars Rovers. University students from different engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software) and science backgrounds, spend 12 months of the year preparing for the annual University Rover Challenge competition at the Mars Desert Research Station in Hanksville, Utah United States. In this grueling Mars-like environment, they test their student-built rover and themselves in a series of events such as traversing, remote scientific analysis, and retrieval and manipulation. Now in its 10th year, this challenging event has proved to be extremely rewarding for the students as individuals, but also benefits the entire field of space exploration by stimulating technical innovation and inspiring the next generation of talent who will take us forward.
You can check out the following documentary video which was produced by Protocase https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CWQlNNEotA , as a way to raise awareness of this entry point for space exploration, for students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) education, and to showcase the experience these university students receive, as they create technology that may one day work alongside human explorers in the field.
The video was premiered at the 19th Annual Mars Society Convention back in September. This four-day event brought together leading scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and government officials to address the significance of the latest in scientific discoveries and technological advances. Key discussions for the event included “how close are humans to stepping on Mars, and what technological advances are needed to make this happen?” Along with presentations from NASA and the Canadian Space Agency, The Mars Society’s Robert Zubrin also addressed the audience to close the convention. This setting was a perfect fit to showcase the documentary as these students involved in the video will aspire to be interns and full-time employees at most of the space organizations in attendance watching. All in all, it was a great two weeks for space as Elon Musk also announced his Mar’s colonization plans the following week.
For an audience who really appreciates advances in technology, what technology do you feel the students could be adapting that may help design a more functional Mars Rover? Any ideas will gladly be presented to the URC team and communicated to all teams for next year's event.
For more information on the University Rover Challenge event, have a look at urc.marssociety.org or check out more URC Mars Rovers videos at: http://ift.tt/2dh8zkM
Thanks to everyone who continues to support the vision of STEM education and Space Exploration.

Wallet-Friendly Cell Phone Networks: Virgin vs Straight Talk vs Others...
My two year contract is up with Verizon in December with my iPhone 5s. After the contract is up, I'll be unlocking the 5s and giving it to my girlfriend for her to use on Virgin Mobile (which she loves and highly recommends). Then, I'll be upgrading to a 6S.
The dilemma lies in which cell phone network I should join. I use about 3-5 GB average data per month and require unlimited texting/calling. Virgin seems like a great option, however the coverage is a bit concerning to me. I live about 2 hours south of D.C., so it's not super rural, but spotty even with Verizon in some areas.
So, what do you guys think? I've also heard good things about Cricket (albeit slightly more expensive) and Straight Talk as well. Any insight is greatly appreciated!

ASUS Z170i wireless adapter causing latency
Hello /r/tech,
I completed my build and everything works flawlessly except for the latency caused by the wireless adapter driver. I downloaded the latest driver from this direct link but the problem has not been resolved.
I even tried CMOS reset but it did not make any difference.
When WiFi adapter is enabled the computer performance is significantly degraded. Mouse stutter, sound popping, random crashes/hangs, poor multi-tasking performance etc.
See LatencyMon results below:
What else I can try to fix this problem? ASUS wants me to send the board for repair but this is the only computer I have and I cannot afford not having a computer at the moment. I was hoping they would send me a replacement board but they said they will repair the board. I purchased it from Microcenter about a week ago.
Thanks for your help!

With the new Google devices launching soon lots of articles have been warning about how much private information Google is getting, but do users actually care? And has anyone actually had a bad experience because Google has private data?
As far as I can tell Google uses private data to make my experience while using their services better. They're also great about protecting my data, making it clear what data they're collecting and giving me control over it. Google probably has more information about me than other companies, but they also seem to provide a lot more benefit from it and so far I've seen exactly zero negatives from them having access to it:
- The only profit they can make from it is targeted advertising, but they allow me to opt out of that, which implies it must not be a huge source of profit (or they value letting users opt out more than they value the additional revenue). It seems like targeted advertising might just be a way to make ads less annoying? If ads are for things I might actually buy, that's better than random ads I have no interest in, right?
- My google account has never been hacked (because they provide good security tools) and my information has never been stolen from their servers because they're great at security. Lots of other sites I use often have been hacked and personal information was stolen by unknown parties.
- Google reminds me to check my personal information and review what's being collected and has easy ways to delete my accounts and export data. Other services don't make it as easy.
- Often a blogger will complain that Google's services are "creepy" because they know where they are or what's on their calendar and offer suggestions. I personally find this useful, and would only think it's creepy if I could see how it could end up in a negative situation.
- Often people will cite things like NSA surveillance as a reason not to use google, but I think if the NSA wants information on me they're going to get it no matter what. My only real option would be to not use any online services.
Have I had an unusual experience with Google services? Do other people have horror stories of personal information being leaked or used against them somehow? I think it's easy to come up with lots of benefits to using google services (things like maps and navigation are so good they're almost indispensable), but what are the negatives to weight against those?

corrupted files/ lost image help
well i think i fucked up colossally.. had an sd card with about 800 pictures on it and i put it into my computer to look at some of the images. i accidentally deleted the ENTIRE list of pictures on the drive.. not to worry, that's what recovery software is for right? the thing is, as i was running the software to recover the pictures i ejected the sd card from my computer. i've tried to get the pictures back but now they just show up as blank, with no preview and no content in them as far as i can tell. i don't know but i have a feeling this might mean that the files are corrupted..
is there anything i can do?

Laptop Suggestions
So I'm considering buying a new laptop, but I'm trying to keep it below $1000. I am a fan of Apple and love the iPhone, iPad, and my current MacBook Pro that is going on 7 years of use now!
With that said, I'm considering buying a new laptop. I want something that will allow me basic Excel use, good casual web browsing capability, and report writing, Spotify, and Cloud storage etc.. Basically Microsoft Office. I'm intrigues by the MacBook Air 2016, once its released and I'd use the Mac version of Office hoping that is not a big transition. The Lenovo ThinkPad 13 also intrigues me.. I'm not to fussy on the greatest specs out - I just want a solid device.
Anyone got suggestions? Looking for something fairly simple, good quality that will last. Again, under 1000 bucks would be great.

Glimmer: A social/dating app for people with disabilities.
Hello Reddit!
I just completed building a social media app targeted at users who struggle with disabilities. This includes anything from autism and Asperger's to PTSD and depression. My application will remove the stigmatism and barriers hindering these men and women from building meaningful relationships (we allow discovery for both friendship and romantic relationships) by providing a safe, judge-free space for them to connect.
I'm less than 2 weeks away from launching in both Android and Apple stores, what methods do you recommend for spreading the word? Any help you can provide me would be greatly appreciated!

How would you fix email? If we had no idea what email was in 2016, how would we design it today?
I was looking at my Gmail inbox today and I have 10,395 unread emails and 40,449 total email in my inbox.
Most of it is spam and junk I haven't gotten around to deleting yet, but somewhere buried in there are attachments to emails I sent when I got married and when my kids were born pictures that have long been lost, and maybe other stuff I don't even remember that I want to keep but getting to it would mean sifting through 40,000+ email.
I used to be an email junkie, but these days I find myself checking my email once or twice a week. SMS, WhatsApp, facebook messenger are good for short personalized messages Email has been relatively unchanged since it was invented.
So, I was thinking if we had no idea what email was in2016, how would we design it today?

Cloud storage service comparisons. Which is best?
Hi r/tech, I'm trying to settle on one cloud storage solution to pay a subscription to, and use across all my devices.
- iPhone
- iPad
- PC
- Laptop
- Xbox One
Unfortunately, this isn't always going to work out- for instance Xbox One doesn't have a Google Drive/Sheets/Docs or iCloud app. Based on that alone, Onedrive seems the best choice, but the cost is prohibitive and I prefer and already use the other market leaders.
I ran a comparison of what I could find, and here's the results.
Red cells means it's the paid sub version, so you can see paid vs free for each service. Prices are in New Zealand Dollars too. xe.com will help if you get confuzzled.
What do you recommend, and why? Anything to add to the below table? If I like it, I'll add it and post an updated screenshot.

Tech things you do for your boss.....ugh!
So I stop by the office on Friday to grab my check, and my boss (i work for a small biz) asks me at the end right before I left if I could help him organize a couple file folders on his PC. I say sure and the next thing he says to me is, "if you tell anyone about this i'll shoot you." (Yes he was a former cop and carries a side arm everywhere) He then opens these two some what identical folders and wants to merge the two together, but I was unprepared for what he showed me. It was his personal porn collection that he had taken with his mistress. Yes, you can imagine the mental images when I realized it was him because all the pictures we marked with the numerical ordering that goes along with a digital camera when it takes pics. (No face shots or body shots of him, just the girl and his shlong) It was a rough Friday........(oh boy here comes the jokes with this one too hehehehehe)

Being Frank-I'm a Youtuber...
And I'm here to show my work to you guys.
I know that there have been 'SOME' complaints lately about tech YouTubers posting and spamming links on every possible social network and not offering good value to their viewers and tech communities. While popularity is a great side effect of helping people out, but giving people bad product review for the sake of popularity is not the way to do it.
With that said, I'm too no top-notch expert in tech, but I promise, I love learning things and tech is something which I can't stop thinking about. I have made both bad and ok content for my Youtube channel. But, I don't wanna stop, I love making videos and I will love to improve my content with help from you guys. My channel does not have much product reviews, but I cover 'Tech News' stuff and I share my opinion on it. Sometimes, I even go for bizarre topics.
Recently I started 'SIMPLIFIED' series, where I explain tech to those people who are new to tech and they wanna know more about, and I try to make less and less technically language, as I said, some people are REALLY NEW to tech. I really like when people who wanna know about tech, and when I have a conversation with them, I discovered that there is a Tremendous amount of love for explaining simple thing related to tech to some other guy.
Why I'm posting here? * Tech is what I love most. * I wanna improve each single bit of my video. * To create more relevant content for you guys. * Recently I doubled my video uploads per month. (It is 4-5/month and I'm working HARD to make it 7-8) * I will help people for queries related to tech in whatever ways it is possible for me. * I wanna grow and learn things...
If you liked my idea for sharing opinions related to tech and helping me in creating better content for you guys, then I would love to see you guys on my channel. I hate spamming links. So, this is my channel name: PixelGRID
If even one of you take time for searching my channel on Youtube, then I'll consider, there are people who love tech as much as I do.
Until then, take care of those Pixels!

[Question] Will an SSD I bought aftermarket run in a new pc/motherboard okay?
First off thank you for taking the time to read my question reddit. I have a toshiba laptop, with an after market 240GB SSD in it, with windows 7 loaded onto it, runs fine, not a bootleg version of windows. I am building a new PC. If i put the SSD from my laptop into the tower I am building now, will it boot just fine, or will the new PC/Motherboard detect it as a bad/bootlegged version of windows?? Thank you so much, really stuck on this one.
