Zomato, Swiggy get notices from Google for violating Play Store norms

Food delivery apps Zomato and Swiggy have received notices from Google for their in-app gamification features that allegedly violate the tech giant's Play Store guidelines. The development comes just weeks after Paytm was blocked from the Play Store for a few hours for violating Google's policy on sports betting activities.

When contacted, Zomato confirmed receiving the notice and termed it as "unfair".

"Yes, we have received a notice from Google. We believe that the notice and termed it as "unfair".

"Yes, we have received a notice from Google. We believe that the notice is unfair, but we are a small company and have already realigned our business strategy to comply with Google's guidelines," a Zomato spokesperson said in an e-mailed response.

8 years of photonic (lasers etc) MIDI guitar development - Giving up

Just thought I'd share this here. I've spent the last 8 years developing a very expensive embedded laser and fibre optic (photonic) system inside an electric guitar, to replicate the guitar playing action through MIDI. I can get my system latency down to below probably 4 or 5 ms. The problem is, the Jamstick Studio MIDI Guitar is so good and can do the same thing only marginally slower for a fraction of the price. So I think it's time to call it quits. Thought I'd at least show the community here anyway, as some might be interested in what I did: https://www.russellphotonic.com/videos

The link above is a continuation of the project and would love to hear your thoughts and any feedback you can provide.

Particularly in its usability/suitability for users with and without disabilities. Although the website is still a work in progress.

Feel free to share this with anyone that might be interested.

Cheers,

Deep Learning & How It's Work - Every Thing You Should Know

What is Deep Learning

Deep Learning is a machine learning technique that constructs artificial neural networks to mimic the structure and function of the human brain. In practice, deep learning, also called deep structured learning or hierarchical learning, uses a huge number of hidden layers -typically more than 6 but often much higher - of nonlinear processing to extract features from data and transform the data into different levels of abstraction (representations).
As an example, assume the input data is a matrix of pixels. the first layer typically abstracts the pixels and recognizes the edges of features in the image. The next layer might build simple features from the edges like leaves and branches. The subsequent layer could then recognize a tree and so on. The data passing from one layer to the next is considered a transformation, turning the output of 1 layer into the input for the next. Each layer corresponds with a unique level of abstraction and the machine can learn which features of the data to place in which layer/level on its own. Deep learning is differentiated from traditional “shallow learning” because it learns much deeper levels of hierarchical abstraction and representations.

Evolution of Deep Learning

It’s the most valuable development in the world of AI in the present time. But rather than trying to understand the details of the field which could lengthen this article a little too much. Let’s just take a look at some of the main developments in the evolution of deep learning.

Although the study of the human brain is thousands of years old. the first step towards neural networks took place in 1943.

In 1943

When Warren McCulloch, a neurophysiologist, and a young mathematician, Walter Pitts, wrote a paper on how neurons might work. They modeled an easy neural network with electrical circuits.

In 1958

Frank Rosenblatt creates the perceptron, an algorithm for pattern recognition based on a two-layer computer neural network using simple addition and subtraction. The perceptron computes a weighted sum of the inputs, subtracts a threshold, and passes one of two possible values out as the result.

In 1980

Kunihiko Fukushima proposes the Neocognitron which is a hierarchical, multilayered artificial neural network. It's been used for handwriting recognition and other pattern recognition problems.

In the 1980s-1990s

John Hopfield presented a paper to the National Academy of Sciences. His approach to making useful devices.
Joint Conference on Cooperative/ Competitive Neural Networks at which Japan announced their Fifth-Generation effort resulted in the US worrying about being left behind. Soon funding was flowing once again.
Deep Learning was introduced to the machine learning community by Rina Dechter in 1986.
Yann LeCun’s invented the machine that could read handwritten digits. This invention felled beneath the wider world’s radar. While the algorithm worked and it required training for 3 days.
This time when the second AI winter kicked in, which also effected research for neural networks and Deep Learning. Various overly-optimistic individuals had exaggerated the “immediate” potential of AI, breaking expectations, and angering investors. Luckily, some people continued to figure on AI and DL, and some significant advances were made. In 1995, Dana Cortes and Vladimir Vapnik developed the support vector machine.
Sepp Hochreiter and Jürgen Schmidhuber publish a milestone paper on “Long Short-Term Memory” (LSTM). It’s a kind of RNN architecture that will persist to revolutionize deep learning in decades to come.

In 2006

Geoffrey Hinton, Ruslan Salakhutdinov, Osindero, and the altogether published the paper a fast learning algorithm for deep belief nets. in which they stacked multiple databases together in layers and called them Deep Belief Networks. The training process is much more efficient for a large amount of data.

In 2008

Andrew NG’s group at Stanford started advocating for the utilization of GPUs. So, that they can train Deep Neural Networks to hurry up the training time by many folds. this could bring practicality in the field of Deep Learning for training on a large volume of data efficiently.

In 2009

Finding enough labeled data has always been a challenge for the Deep Learning community. In 2009 Fei-Fei Li, an AI professor at Stanford launched ImageNet, assembled a free database of more than 14 million labeled images. it would serve as a benchmark for the deep learning researchers who would participate in ImageNet competitions (ILSVRC) each year.

In 2012

AlexNet, a GPU implemented the CNN model designed by Alex Krizhevsky. AlexNet won Imagenet’s image classification contest with an accuracy of 84%. It's a huge jump over 75% accuracy that earlier models had achieved. This win triggers a new deep learning boom globally.

In 2014

Ian Goodfellow created GAN also known as Generative Adversarial Neural Network. GANs open an entirely new door of application of deep learning in fashion, art, science, etc.

In 2016

Deepmind’s deep reinforcement learning model beats the human champion in the complex game of Go. the game is much more complex than chess. As a result, this feat captures the imagination of everyone. Also, it takes the promise of deep learning to an entirely new level. Self-learning computer eclipses human ability at complex game Go In 2019
Yoshua Bengio, Geoffrey Hinton, and Yann LeCun won Turing Award 2018. they had immensely contributed to advancements in the area of deep learning and AI. This was a defining moment for those who had worked relentlessly on neural networks.2018 Turing Award

By 2012, deep learning had already been used to help people turn left at Albuquerque (Google Street View). It inquired about the estimated average airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow (Apple’s Siri). In June of the year 2012, Google linked 16,000 computer processors, gave them Internet access, and watched as the machines taught themselves how to identify…cats. What may seem laughably simplistic, though, was quite earth-shattering as scientific progress goes.

Advantages of Deep Learning

The following are the benefits or advantages of Deep Learning:

Features are automatically deduced and optimally tuned for the desired outcome. Features are not required to be extracted ahead of time. This avoids time-consuming machine learning techniques.
Robustness to natural variations in the data is automatically learned.
The same neural network-based approach can be applied to many different applications and data types.
Massive parallel computations can be performed using GPUs and are scalable for large volumes of data. Moreover, it delivers better performance results when the amount of data are huge.
The deep learning architecture is flexible to be adapted to new problems in the future.

Disadvantages of Deep Learning

The following are the drawbacks or disadvantages of Deep Learning:

It requires a very large amount of data to perform better than other techniques.
It is extremely expensive to train due to complex data models. Moreover, deep learning requires expensive GPUs and hundreds of machines. This increases the cost to the users.
There is no standard theory to guide you in selecting the right deep learning tools as it requires knowledge of topology, training method, and other parameters. As a result, it is difficult to be adopted by less skilled people.
It is not easy to comprehend output based on mere learning and requires classifiers to do so. Convolutional neural network-based algorithms perform such tasks.

What are your feelings on VR/AR?

Hello all, I am new here. Let me introduce myself I am Jake, I am 22 years old and I have a very very firm stance that VR and AR are the future and will most likely be bigger than Amazon in terms of market capitalization of industries. How can one technology do this? Well it's quite simply because just like the internet in it's early stages, there is not a single industry that CAN'T benefit from these technologies. Medical (practice of surgeries, medicine simulations, training, etc), construction (virtual walkthrough of designs, trainings, and more), military, fire, police, and EMTs (all benefit from this in training purposes), movie (live up close put yourself in the movie experiences), music (virtual concerts and up close studio experiences), sports (field side seats see all the action up close, possibly even views based off of players wearing cameras), gaming (one of the most current uses of VR), social media (vr coffee shops, bonfires, social gathering rooms, social events), event industry (virtual car show walk throughs, and other event show walk throughs), car industry (this one could go hand in hand with gaming but virtual test drives, virtual look around inside and outside of the car, VR assembly experience). So as you can see I can go on and on and on but I ran out of characters lol. VR would and should capitalize on trainings, up close and personal experiences, virtual walk throughs, and more!

I would love to hear your opinions on this. And remember, the man who bought 1000 horses to sell when Henry Ford released his car lost big.

Poor Wifi reception while live-streaming with another person on Youtube.

I have a friend with a modem that must be situated downstairs (per her AT&T installer technician). She live-streams upstairs with another user on her laptop and iPad, all via Wifi.

Problem is that the streaming experience is very poor, with lots of freezes & stuttering of the audio and video. Very frustrating!

Apparently, when she live-streams alone, the media experience is ok, no stuttering or freezes.

Anyway, so what can be done? Apparently, moving the downstairs modem is not an option, apparently per the ATT installation tech....and moving her media rig downstairs is very cumbersome and rather impractical.

My prior experience with $30 Wifi extenders was not that good or impressive.

TIA !

Best laptop for a film student?

I’m starting college this year (unfortunately during the pandemic) and because some of it will be online I won’t always have the good pc’s provided on campus. And I need a laptop anyway for the zoom calls so would love some suggestions.

I’m convinced I have a curse because every laptop I’ve ever gotten gets soooo slow within a year and I’ve gotten them cleaned and repaired which then only lasts a few days. And I never even put hard to run programs on them. Literally only used a laptop after being repaired to search images to draw and it would still freeze and that. It’s always just a waste of money for me.

So my brother has a surface pro (8??? I think) and I love it but it still struggled to run Adobe premier which I‘ll probably be using in my course or a program similar. I heard the MacBooks are good for editing videos however I’ve also heard they’re not good for anything else🤷🏻‍♀️ Ino iPad Pro is kind of an equivalent to the surface but I couldn’t imagine that running editing software. I could be wrong.

Reason why I mention those^ is because I’m artsy and it would be a huge plus if it had a detachable touch screen for drawing like procreate. But if those types of laptops aren’t strong enough to run video editing software no big deal. I’m going to prioritize college work.

So can anyone suggest the best laptop for me?

I was going to wait until I went to college to ask them what to get but the county my college is in is going into lockdown so I need the laptop ASAP

OK so my grandma asked to find the price of her computer. And it’s an Acer 1 - A0751h-52Yk (2009 model) I’ve looked online and saw 2 selling for £180??? I thought it would be like £40 and that these guys are overcharging. Am I right?

I want a purely unbiased review of the iPhone vs the android competitors.

I am okay with not having as much features and customization because less of a problem because of the new iOS.

What matters most to me is camera, display, cool factor, and things that one has over the other.

I am considering Upgrading from an Samsung S9+ to a iPhone XR, and I wanna know if it is a good idea from an unbiased standpoint as I am open to both competitors.

Help finding VPN

Hello all, I’m in need of a VPN or something that can make it seem I’m at my office location but actually elsewhere. We use a system that is only accessible when you’re IP address matches up with what they have. I was told by an Internet provider they have a VPN that does that. After months still nothing, they say it’s because I have a Mac. I really need this because I’m on the go a lot and need to process paperwork and my office is really just so I have the licenses/permits I need in order to operate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What's the most ethically or morally compromising work going on in tech?

Have been thinking about this a lot: I'm sure that there's some really questionable shit going down in tech companies across the globe (/silicon valley) and I'd like to start probing my way into finding out what they're up to, but don't know where to start. Any thoughts or links that could get me going? I am anticipating that just googling the names of tech companies isn't going to get me far. Thanks!

Sedentary Work and it's downsides

Hi everybody

I just recently switched from a more active position to more of a sedentary work environment.
And I already feel some downsides of it. Posture changed a bit, feeling more tired and I have to watch myself getting enough movement to stay in shape.

How is that going for you? What downsides have you experienced?
maybe this is slightly off-topic, but I thought we might have that in common

Dual Channel software

Im sorry if Im wrong but i think if you have a 4gb stick and a 8gb stick you get 12gb of RAM but It is not dual Channel, well kind of, because when the RAM is free at the first 4gb they work at dual Channel but in the other 4gb work un single channel. So what if with some drivers you could maje that when the 4gb are full they could free and Aldo when the 8gb are half full (as the same time as the 4gb are full) they free but if both of the 4gb of the rams are full and there is something they need to take, the left 4gb of the 8gb stick start to complete and then they free.

pd: I al sorry for the bad spelling or explanation but i am from argentina and im 14 years old. If there is something you Sony understand please ask me.

Which one among the list do I first do?

Make sure to lockdown my replacement laptop

Install administrative password

No sharing files over network

Make sure he doesn't get physical access.

Disable file sharing over the same wireless network

Require the administrative password to install files, and keep it a secret.

Also make my main account a user account.

Optional: Disable the usb ports in bios. This will prevent me from connecting any usb devices, dongles, reinstalling windows from a usb stick, so wouldn't recommend it if you can prevent him from gaining physical access.

Disable file sharing

Turn windows file sharing enabled off

https://www.actional.con/kb/disabling-file-sharing-Windows-10.html Pick an option. If you go through file explorer, it should be an option

If I face difficulties replacing my laptop, I can completely reset my Windows or even install a fresh copy. That way every installed piece of 3rd party software will be removed. Or I can get someone to do this.

Linux

Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition

I can install Windows inside Linux if I need to install Windows applications. This can be done using something called a Virtual Machine, and a free program like Virtual Box.

With my computer, simply put a BIOS boot password.

Just disconnect from the wifi while I type, then reconnect afterwards.

Linux software

Linux Operationg system

Install Linux Mint

Delete everything on the laptop will delete both Windows and the keylogger. When I delete everything, I have to put Windows and or/Linux in order to actually do anything on the computer.

To install Windows, Microsoft has a free tool which I can use to put Windows 10 on a USB Flash Drive:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10. I stick the flash drive in my computer, and then tell BIOS to load the flash drive instead of Windows. On the flash drive, theres a program that can delete everything on your computer, and then install a new clean version of windows.

To install Linux theres a program called UNetBootIn:https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/unetbootin-portable.UNetBootIn can download a Linux version of my choice and automatically put it in the flash drive. I then tell the BIOS to boot the flash drive and Linux is running automatically. On the new desktop will be an icon to permanently install it.

I could try to live boot some form of linux and save whatever you are typing to a usb stick. Either keep both usb sticks close.

Bootable Linux and keep the drive me at all times.

Boot from a usb flash drive

Get some silicon USB port protectors

"How to restart to uefi in Windows"

Set BIOS password if only for setup. I have to enter setup and set the password. To get into the setup I need need to either need to hit a key(most likely F1, F2, F12 or delete) or restart windows in a certain way.

Instead of returning the laptop I could have just reset windows from settings or backup my important files and reinstall windows. Resetting will remove all programs and reinstall windows. Resetting will remove all programs and reinstall windows. Also I can disable network sharing in control panel so nobody can access my laptop files through a network.

My password must be safe. It must not be known to him, the password that I use to access outlook.com must not be known to him.

Don't reuse passwords, so that if my have the key for one lock, I can open all other locks.

If I don't trust what buas on the hard drive at purchasing time, then reinstall Windows.

Google "download windows 10" The first result is: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10

If I "reset" Computer(it's in the setting, I can search in the start menu) and set a different computer password, then the machine is clear, and any such stuff is gone.

Do not share password. Do not share them with other people, do not share them between sites.

Encryption. In the settings. Search for it in the start menu. It might be called "bitlocker" depending on my version of Windows.

Don't click on links in suspicious emails

Dont reuse passwords

Spy shelter software solution

Reset windows or use spy shelter

Get an anti-keylogger software. Example: spy shelter. Get spy shelter or any other anti-keylogger software

Nuke windows, that it's format the pc only saving your data. Place a secure password for admin, create a non administrator account and hide the admin one. Disable all the USB ports on my laptop I can do a batch file to do that. Relatively easy to do, just Google how to do all this stuff

Format the pc

Disable all usb ports

hide the admin account

linux live-CD. Prepare it someplace I trust. After I take the CD out, and restart, the windows files are untouched. Just save my "secret files" on a USB stick, and nobody should be able to access them.

https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/try-ubuntu-before-you-install#1-getting-started

I could do encryption, but I think, a new(non-windows) system should be enough.

https://averagelinuxuser.com/verscrypt-encrypt-usb-linux/

Set strong passwords, and good encryption, always lock you computer even when I go to the toilet, or better entirely turn it off. Go Linux.

I need to harden my setup before anyone has a chance to access it physically. There are ways to prevent a lot of physical attacks, or at least make them take a lot longer to perform. Fresh install and good encryption

install a second operating system like Linux mint and switch to it whenever I need privacy. I could try that

Learn to run a live version of Kali Linux from a quality USB memory device. SanDisk-Ultra128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive-Black Model:SDC248-128G-A46 SKU:9044257. Keep that USB secret, and on my person when not in use.

Download a bootable copy of Ubuntu or any linux you wish into a pendrive and boot it from that. Everytime I reboot it will be brand new again. Boot Linux from pendrive. I can safely use the linux from the pendrive and I can remove and stash it under the bed.

For if I reset to a known save state directly after, and it's not connected to a network and there's nothing else that enables the malware to jump the air gap, it's probably going to be fine. I may want to make sure to save the typed text as raw text to make sure there's no virus embedded in the file.

One thing I can do is create a second user account without administrator rights. That way programs won't be able to be installed unless I have the administrator password. Also I may want to get a vpn and frequently check my computer for anything unusual(new programs, icons, etc).

Dig into system files searching for keyloggers in file management, if no success try a computer factory reset.

Help! Emergency! My privacy has been violated!

Hi, I don’t know where else to go I feel like my privacy has been invaded and I need your guys help to help me figure this out. My ex-boyfriend is a narcissistic abusive person so he has no issues invading people‘s privacy. One day I posted a bikini picture on my Instagram story and I went to sleep early that night I woke up in the middle of the night to find that he was still awake and thought that was kind of strange but I still went back to sleep. I then again woke up in the morning to find that I have reason to believe he had added himself to my Instagram close friends story which was weird because he wasn’t there when I went to sleep then three of my Snapchat’s that were not open the previous night were open when I woke up which was also strange. But the problem is if you look into my Snapchat memories (which I’m sure he did) there’s a lot of inappropriate pictures of me (that he has never seen before) which leads to my final clue that he went in my phone. The final clue was me and my ex boyfriends’ Messages were all gone from his phone and from my phone. That was very weird. I went on my Mac computer to see if there was any evidence of him sending pictures of me from my Snapchat to his phone and there was nothing but there was evidence that he sent my location to himself because I was also sharing my location with him that morning as well. I’m not sure what to do but I know he went into my phone and he sent a bunch of inappropriate pictures of me to himself which is disgusting and creepy and I want to find out the truth. If anyone has any suggestions please help me I feel violated and disgusted.

Hi guys. Our sincere thanks to those who have already contributed to our research! Our Ph.D team at the University of Limerick, Ireland, are exploring the sleep patterns and smartphone usage of people aged 18-24. We are particularly interested in hearing from users of devices with sleep tracking capability (e.g. Fitbit, Garmin). If you would like to contribute to this study, please click on the link below to complete a 15-minute questionnaire. Thanks so much for your time guys!

Is MicroSoft's purchase of Bethesda a new threat to Epic (and Unity) on XBox?

With everyone focusing on the implications of Microsoft's purchase for game publishing and exclusives, I haven't seen any commentary on the implications for game engines and development.

Microsoft is aquiring a couple of high quality inhouse game engines that it could open up for XBox/PC game development. Given the current Epic/Apple court case and Microsoft's move into subscription publishing with GamePass, there is an opportunity for Microsoft to change the game engine landscape.

For example, Microsoft could open up the ID7 engine for developers on the PC and XBox with GamePass intergration (e.g. matchmaking and cloud gaming support). It is an extremely performation engine that can easily scale from a switch to a XBS to a XBX. This could solve some of the XBS XBX development challenges.

how to track user behaviour without consuming data

Hello,

While watching the social dilemma on Netflix, I remembered one question that I've been wondering for a while.

Simply: how can big companies track every single behaviour you do in their apps and sending it to their server without seeing big difference in your internet data consumption.

This is too much!!!!

I’am wondering where are we going with phone prices ? I mean the idea from making new tech is make better things with cheaper prices but every year we’re adding 200$ more to the “new tech” and I don’t think this is a new tech this is the same one but with higher qualities for higher prices and the phones are now 1300-1500$ and this is way too much for a phone and especially for a company like apple whose unsupporting the older versions of iPhone

Snapchat conversation missing?

Hi all. So on snap, I wished someone happy birthday and they replied. We used to have a streak and talk a lot but we don't anymore. This was about 2 weeks ago.

On the far left where all your conversations are, the conversation between me and this person is missing. However when I search them, their name pops up. When I tap their name & view their snap profile, I can still see their snap score, and everything else. I can go into a conversation with them and still see old saved messages between us.

There is an empty infilled grey box that comes up when I search the name, but I can also see their snap score and saved messages. The conversation itself on the far left is just missing. I can even still see the last messages from out most recent conversation saved in there still.

What happened?

How do I get around the Circle by Disney restrictions?

First off, i’m 17 so I should not be getting these restrictions at this point in time. Recently, my dad bought Circle by Disney and set it up on our router. This means that after 11, my WiFi switches off and I can’t figure out a way to switch it back on. This was already hurting me, because I do my homework later at night and this thing stops me from finishing, resulting in bad grades, which my parents get mad at.

Two days ago, my dad blocked every and all games on my computer, every website associated with games (this includes flash games), and YouTube. I cant do anything on my computer anymore that I used to like to do. I cant play games with my friends, I cant call them, I cant do anything. It’s really stupid how after 17 years, he just now puts these restrictions on, and this severe, too.

I’ve done the MAC spoof trick twice, but my dad realized I was doing it and he did something to make it not work anymore. They won’t let me get a job, so I cant just buy my own router. If I broke the thing, they would take away all my technology until i moved out, where I would have to buy new stuff myself. I’m stumped.

Please help me, I use a Windows 10 PC and use an Ethernet connection.

China-backed hackers broke into 100 firms and agencies, US says

The Justice Department said Wednesday that a group of hackers associated with China’s main intelligence service had infiltrated more than 100 companies and organizations around the world to steal intelligence, hijack their networks and extort their victims.

The U.S. government presented the allegations in a set of three indictments unsealed Wednesday that showed the scope and sophistication of China’s attempts to unlawfully advance its economy and to become the dominant global superpower through cyberattacks. The indictments also said some of the hackers had worked with Malaysian nationals to steal and launder money through the video game industry.

Amazing Podcast Interview with Ken Liu - on Technology, Storytelling and Futurism

Just listened to this episode and was MIND-BLOWN by the ideas discussed.

Ken describes current tech leaders like Musk, Bezos, and Zuckerberg as our modern-day folk heroes (think Achilles, Oddyseus, etc)

He also describes how he built a simple neural network that wrote FOR him when he was experiencing writer's block.

HIGHLY recommend this episode to anyone interested in technology/futurism. Excited to hear what everyone thinks. I feel like I've found a real hidden gem here.
