Hello all, recently I came across news that in the future Apple shall be removing the lightning port entirely and MagSafe/wireless charging will be their go to. I had a couple of questions regarding this. While I tried doing my own research I am a bit of a novice when it comes to computers so some of the technical terms flew right over me. So bear with me. 1) If Apple or any other brand is moving towards a truly wireless phone, what about data? While we can transfer data through WiFi, the cable is our go to option for diagnosis, backup etc. Is wireless charging and data transfer via the same wireless pad possible? I know data can transfer in a simplex manner through those pads but what about duplex? 2) The entire issue of total wireless charging brings multitudes of other issues in mind, chiefly using your phone while charging. And let’s be honest it’s not truly wireless is it? Rather than using a connector which plugs in, you’re using a puck that sticks to the back. So my question is, is true wireless charging possible? By that I mean leaving your phone anywhere near a charging point and it charges without a physical connection.
EDIT: I heard this rumour first from Marques Brownlee in his review of the iPhone 12. Did my own research and found out this is a common belief. Linking articles below
