I was changing out parts for my PC and when I went to turn it on it wouldn’t display on any of my monitors, and when I looked at the motherboard I saw the red dram light on so I thought my ram was loose or something, so I press firmly the ram into place and still nothing, after a little bit I decided to take one ram stick out to see if any of them were faulty and boom display turns on instantly. I then went on to switch the ram I took out into the working slots space and that stick worked too. My question is could I just have a faulty ram slot and should I replace the Mobo? I have also checked my psu, cpu, gpu, all seem to be fine and I even reset bios but nothing fixed it except not having the ram in my second slot. I only have two ram slots on my mb so I can’t put the second one in a different slot. Thanks for any help I receive.
So I ordered a TP-Link AC1900 (Archer T9UH) USB WiFi adapter last night and I'm worried my room might not get the best signal. There's a bookshelf about 15 ft down the hallway from my room, could I just use a USB3 extension cable to extend the signal?

Hey, I am trying to run snort IDS (version 2.9.11) on my Windows 10 machine. I followed the instructions from a YouTube tutorial video to set up snort for Windows. However, I get this error towards the end.
"ERROR: c:/Snort/etc/snort.conf(298) => Unable to open the IIS Unicode Map file './unicode.map'. Fatal Error, Quitting.."
Did anybody here face this issue and more importantly figure out a way to fix it?

I just installed the above mentioned app on my iPhone 7+ and it seems to work fine. It encrypts all of my Internet traffic. However it doesn’t hide my IP address and physical location like traditional VPN services. Also, it’s free. Which is why I’m a bit skeptical.

I'm looking for an app to facilitate conversation between people who speak different languages. Sort of like Pixel Buds, but as an app that works for both parties. Ideally it would just be one phone, one instance of the app. You speak English, it speaks out the Spanish translation. You speak Spanish, it speaks out the English translation.
Is it normal for the tops of a NH-U14S cooler to melt? All the pictures I've seen show deformities on the tops of the pipes. It smells like burning solder and it would be, most logically, the cooler I just installed. Thanks for any help.

Hey guys! I have a Lenovo g5070 laptop. It has started getting lagged. It sometimes completely stops doing nothing.makes sounds like trrrrrrrrrrrr..., Idk, what's causing this problem.. Help me out. HDD is about 40% space. But still it's not working properly. I am thinking about a ram upgrade.
This post is a rant on how infuriating it can be when developers don't work together with other companies as well as they should.
So basically I have a few things. A PC with 7.1 audio ports. Speakers that can accept different inputs. An AudioEngine D1 DAC (Digital Audio Converter) which outputs to 3.5mm if wanted, and takes in USB or Optical. A google home. A chromecast audio.
My request was so simple. I want to control Spotify with my voice, and have it play, on request, to my speakers or when I want, directly to my DAC which sends to my headphones.
Hell no it wasn't simple. To get that exact scenario to work, I had to plug the chromecast audio into my line in port on my PC. Run a 3.5mm male to male from my line out on the PC to the speakers, and run an optical cable to my DAC. Using VAC (Virtual Audio Cable) I could route the audio from the chromecast audio to both my optical output and the 3.5mm line out.
Luckily the godsend Spotify connect usability saved my ass because I can open Spotify on my PC and control it from there (More on this later). So now I've got voice control via the google home, which can control the music.
But I'm a power user and I don't want to have to say "Hey Google" just to pause and play my music. So I download VoiceAttack and another program that scripts directly into Spotify via launch parameters. Now I can say "Pause music" and it does so.
So back to why it was important to control Spotify on my desktop. I use Rainmeter and I like the fancy little visualizer I found. It can also pull the artist and track info directly from Spotify and display it. Which I love and I can't do without so I had to go through all this ^ trouble.
If only the Google Home could control Spotify connect natively. Then I could do all this nonsense directly, without running 4 different cables (2 more virtual).
tl;dr Google home doesn't let me control spotify connect so I had to jerry-rig it.

Mom has an iPad and brother has an android. After my brother got the android, he no longer received the family chat messages. If we made a chat for where he could receive them, my mom was not able to get them on her iPad. I tried a google search for this but nothing this specific came up. Hello reddit. I am a entrepreneur who has found early success in my business. I am currently in the process of building an office and didnt know where to begin with tech. I'm guessing the big question is Mac or hp. Our needs are to have 2 or 3 PCs and laptops highly compatible with printers( high volume scanning printing). We also will need the PCs to be constantly synced with our company laptops. That way we can work on our PCs and be able to switch over to our laptops with out interruption. Is there a way to do that with micro Word? Our budget is flexible around 10 grand? thank you!
Hi, not sure if this is the right place but I've looked for what I thought would be and they didn't exist.
So I work in an industrial environment, and there's a lot of screaming and shouting and abuse. Not all the time, but sometimes depending on who's present. I think that people in the office don't believe how bad it can get, but it's small men getting carried away with a little bit of authority and making other people's lives a total misery.
Does anyone please know of a dictaphone that could handle a hot, sweaty environment? Something I could fit into a pocket that could handle a few bumps and moisture, I think I'm looking for a Nokia 5210 of dictaphones.

This upcoming semester will be my 4th semester of college and I'm thinking about switching majors to New Media, currently I'm majoring in informatics. I chose informatics because I used to like computers, but im not too fond of math. I know I want to work with smartphones, I'd love to design not only the actual phones but also how the UI looks, I would equally enjoy coming up with new features as well. I'm coding at the moment and hate every second of it, which explains why I'm trying to switch majors to something else I'm interested in. This is kinda of my last ditch effort to stay in the field, there isn't any major that will specifically get me into the smartphone field is there? Is this field math heavy? My dream job would be at HTC HQ I'd also enjoy Apple but not as much. If none of this comes to fruition I would also love to start my own cellphone case company cause I feel like I could make much better cases than the ones I see people using in public.
A short while ago I was researching ways to recycle all this waste in our community - this was the first time I heard about a really interesting Startup Newcomer in India - and it blew my mind.
This Startup wants to solve the waste management - and housing crises - building earthquake proof Eco Homes out of recycled plastic. Sounds crazy at the first moment, but it looks actually like a great solution. I looked into it and I myself find it revolutionary. They are called “Gaias Homes”
Their system is similar to Lego - A one Family house could be build in only 5 days and costs so little that everyone can buy one ( THIS WAS A WOW EFFECT FOR ME ) And it cleans up the environment from all that nasty plastic.
I personally LOVE that Idea and think that concepts like this are ( or at least should be) the future of Construction and Real Estate
As far as I know, their technology is still open source and they just start business - I can smell great opportunities for Entrepreneurs here!

So, lately I've been having major Wi-Fi issues in my new apartment. The modem/router are in another room while the PS4 I'm trying to get hard-wired is in mine.
I have a coaxial cable in my room that is connected to the modem/router, so I figured instead of running wires all which-way through my house, I bought the ActionTec ECB6200 so I could make this easier, but now my PS4 won't connect to the internet. I have:
Wall coaxial - Coax In PS4 Ethernet - MoCA Ethernet Power plugged in

I was talking with a friend about his security cameras at his house. He has 4 wired cameras and 3 wireless cameras all connected to the same box. I asked if he was concerned about someone breaking into his system and monitoring him. He said the wireless cameras were only outside looking at his yard.
So first question: Is there a way to get aceess to the inside hard wired cameras through the wireless cameras?
We started discussing it and he said that he thinks there probably is a way but neither of us are tech savy enough to know for sure. He then goes on to tell me about a free app another friend told him about that could break into someones cell phone and turn on the camera and mic to see and hear everything going on around the target phone. He told me as the two of them were sitting next to each other his friend punched in his number to prove it was real and sure enough it turned on his phones camera and mic. He then downloaded the app to his own phone and punched in his exes number (kinda creepy but he is a decent guy for the most part) and was able to monitor her.
Second question: Is there technology out there that would allow one phone to monitor another phone without the consent or knowledge of the target phone?
Question 3: What would be the legal asspects of having or using this tech for any purpose?

Swipe/gesture typing had been around since about 2002 and practically available since 2012. What is the future of swipe with the development of predictive text algorithms. Do you use it? What do you think would improve it? Is it faster or easier for you? Does the keyboard need to be changed if it is adopted and how will it change our use or understanding of language?

Can we take a minute to appreciate how beautiful the iPhone X is? The 5.8-inch OLED panel with a near bezel-less layout provides arguably the most stunning structure on an iPhone to date. The glass back and stainless steel frame only contribute to this wonderful design.
Probably my favorite feature the notch at the top of the 5.8-inch screen. Although it gets in the way of the screen, the features such as an infrared camera and dot projector help create the best iPhone experience yet. The dual real cameras are exceptional, and the front-facing camera is a major improvement from the last iPhone.
I can definitely make the statement that the iPhone X is a superior phone to the rival Android models. I have been an iPhone advocate my whole life, mainly due to its simplicity and efficiency with aspects such as iCloud storage. However, with the iPhone X, I truly believe that this smartphone can win over even the most staunch Android supporters.
In the past I have generally stuck with traditional classic watches. However, recently I've been thinking about getting the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier. I have heard mixed reviews and am here trying to gather some opinions. What do you think of the Frontier if you have one? Or is there another smartwatch you would recommend for a Android phone owner?

I just finished my first computer. Every component works, but something strange is happening. I have installed Windows 10 on my SSD (Samsung PM871), but it doesn't show up in the boot priority menu (MSI B350 PC MATE). Only my HDD (WD Blue 1TB) does. When I'm all booted, only my SSD is available through the file manager. When I open my device manager, it says the HDD is connected and I have the latest drivers and everything. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? Also, when I change my settings from RAID to AHCI, it boots. When I change back to RAID, it doesn't (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE).
I haven't bought a new media player in a long time. I'm too frustrated with the one I have not working properly. It seems like I'm not searching correctly via google. I need a device that can play mp3/mp4/etc. files and has about 800gb capacity. It needs to be physically small.
So what are small media players called now? Are they still being used separately or does everyone use their cell phones for playing music via headphones/ear buds?

Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies make no sense to me, so please help me understand. I get that people say block chain provides a source of truth, but I still don't quite understand why and how. Marry that up with actual money (bitcoin and not Ethereum) along with people calculating blocks via their comps and I’m lost.
When I’ve asked for explanations I get people sending me links to articles that basically use the terms “cryptocurrency” and “block chain” to define themselves, which doesn't make sense and send up all sorts of red flags in my mind. These same articles spout all sorts of upsides but zero downsides, which again sends up all sorts of red flags. In the end the entire thing seems like a “pyramid scheme” / “snake oil salesman” situation: (1) Convince everyone this is the wave of the future, (2) get them to commit tons of money & (3) switch to a new method and say the new method is now superior, thereby telling people they have to now move their money. I am wanting to start making my home "Smart and don't know quite where to begin. One of the first decisions I am facing is of course Echo vs Google Home. Right now I am wanting to go with the Google Home but wait for the Max to release next month...thoughts? Where should I go from there? The basics of what I want are smart lighting (like Phillips Hue), smart thermostat (like Nest), possibly security, smart lock and doorbell, etc but I wanted to get some feedback from people who know what they are talking about! I am also wondering about network security and these items....if someone can back my lightbulb does that leave my whole home vulnerable? I primarily run android and wijndows devices and my wife is a Mac person if that helps at all.

Forgive me if this is the wrong sub to ask this question but after not having a single valuable response I figured soliciting answers from this sub might get a variety of the best answers and maybe even open up some thought provoking conversation.
So my question is this: Let's say a person uses vpn/proxies/anonymous browsers like TOR to access internet content, as it stands now depending on how secure the service is, it is my understanding that it would be fairly difficult for the ISP to monitor the content/services/etc that the user is accessing (not impossible just difficult to the point I'm not sure if it's be worth their time to dig into).
So using that route and assuming nothing changes with that technology that further exposes users activity, how exactly would they be able to throttle access to a specific service/website/etc. when they can't really see what you are doing? Wouldn't that bypass the potential issues posed by getting rid of net neutrality?
[Question 1: Cases] So, I bought my Galaxy S7 Edge a few months ago from eBay, used to replace my old iPhone 6. I LOVED the silicone case made by Apple themselves, and I can't seem to find anything like that for the S7 Edge. It came with an (also used) speck clear candyshell, but it's yellowing and cracking. Does Samsung make a silicone case for this phone like the Apple one, is there a 3rd party one like it, or am I out of luck?
[Question 2: Software] I have the Verizon model, and I was wondering how to remove the Verizon boot screen? It's really ugly, and all the guides on YouTube are either fake, or outdated. If I need to root, how do I do so?
[Question 3: Water Resistance] As I bought the phone used, is there any way to know if it's been taken apart, and if it's still water resistant? I have a little more confidence of it going into the sink on accident, but I'm not sure if it's still able to be ran under the sink.
[Question 4: Software Updates] I read that Oreo will be coming to the S7 series in about 125-180 days after official launch of stock Oreo, but the article didn't say when it was published, so, when do we get it? Any rumors? Any new features? How long will the S7 be supported for?
