New to Laptops, Need help

I have been searching online for the past hour looking at Laptops for when I go away for school and I understand next to nothing about computer (graphics, processing, RAM etc) and having a bit of trouble deciding what to get. Was wondering if anyone has a laptop that fits what I'm looking for

If I were a company building someone's website, like a wordpress blog, and they were told by the hosting provider that they were going to have an SSL certificate come into effect next month is there any code/bespoke elements that my company would need to change?

I am taking a free course right now and I don't know this question. I assume that I would need to have the SSL 'key' right? Because if I am developing the website I would need that key, but I'm not sure what I would use it for exactly.

Can one computer use two different ethernet cables to share a connection

I’m trying to use a vpn for my ps4. So I hook the Ethernet cable to my laptop and I just bought an Ethernet splitter to be able to use two Ethernet cords. When I plug both of them in it just goes to the same Ethernet in network connections. I have three the first one is Ethernet with Realtek PCI FF family... the second one in Ethernet 2 TAP-ProtonVPN Windows and the third one is Ethernet 3 AnchorFree Tap-Windows. I’m trying to hook my laptop up to the Ethernet and care my connection to the ps4 via Ethernet put it doesn’t allow me to use two different Ethernet sources. I’ve changed the share properties and everything and I don’t know what to do at this point.

High RAM usage

my pc has decided to start using a abnormally high amount of RAM. I had 16 gigs of ddr4 (i put 8 more gigs in to make this problem less of a problem when gaming) and i could restart my pc (full shut down and turn back on) and i would normally sit around 25% total usage or lower but for some reason it has gone up to 30%+ with nothing open if i open discord it never goes over 350mb of RAM and steam never goes over 400mb of RAM. now at this point ive put 8 more gigs of ddr4 and my pc STILL with a restart will sit no higher than 25% total but after a while it will clime up to 30%+. ive looked at resource manager and there is nothing using a large amount even if i start closing programs it will stay at 30%+ and with everything on task manager this makes no since it all just doesnt add up to what its doing. ive finally had enough of this and decided to ask on here to see if anyone els might have fixed this or any ideas that may fix this

As a marketing or business intelligence analyst, I would much rather work for a startup in SF than a established giant. But how much am I giving up by doing this?

I’m finishing my analytics degree in December and still choosing which position to go after. Data analyst can still be an option but I am hoping to do more strategic and creative planning to really help startups grow instead of just data mining, cleaning, and reporting.

I am still learning skills for a data analyst such as R, SQL, intermediate level excel, and tableau just in case.

But how do startups pay in relation to bigger companies? And what are the starting salaries for these analyst positions? (Google seems to be giving me lower rates like $50k/year)

Backup woes...

Hello all, I'm looking for advice/help with my backup issues. I have a lot of data that I need to backup, this is a home environment so I need consumer friendly/cost effective solutions. I currently have a NAS in RAID 6 with a max capacity of 48TB (It's not at that size yet but that will be the largest amount of data I will be using and I'm looking to futureproof to that size limit). This NAS has backup images of all the computers in the house, it also has my Movies/TV Shows and other miscellaneous data on it that isn't backup'd anywhere else (it's not vital if this data is lost at the moment as it's easily replaced/digitalised copies of physical media). I also have a single backup of my most important data that is kept offsite but this is only about capable of keeping 10TB of the 48TB I intend to have so isn't a complete backup. Basically I need to figure out a offsite backup solution. I looked at Backblaze and syncing my entire NAS to the cloud but at 48TB this would work out to $240 a month which is WAY to expensive in the long run, it would be cheaper to build my own offsite cloud then pay that plus there is the issue of internet bandwidth, it would take weeks to back up the data over the net. I looked into tape backups and that is a joke, costs like $3k for the drive and the tapes will cost me $1.5k and I will have to change over 30 tapes to do one backup, which is CRAZY stupid. There is cartridges as well but the cost and labour involved is still pretty much as crazy and expensive as normal tape. And it's all too slow. I think the best bet is to wait for HAMR drives to get super big and just use them when it becomes viable but that its like a good 5 years off til this happens and I will probably need to use multiple drives, and I assume it will be expensive. Other option is to build a duplicate NAS and cart it for backups but that is a bit stupid too. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome :S

I think I'm shocking my pc.

So it turned out that I'm using my own pc at work. For some reason, everything in this office is filled with electronic tension. If i touch the sink it shocks me, if i touch a colleague he/she shocks me. I dont know what is this, but thats not the problem im having. I just wanted to plug my charger into the pc, and as soon as i touched my pc with the USB it shut down. Im thinking i shocking the shit out of my pc, and Im worried. Sometimes the pc shocks me when im about to turn it on in the morning. Is there anything i can do to stop it?

Hello everyone! My name is Eugene. And I REALLY NEED your guys' opinion on the app me and friends have been building for 2 years now. I continuously get pissed by how Instagram shows me old photos of people or things that I don't even think are cool enough to be at the top of my Explore feed. So long story short, me and my team made this app called Carusel. Here is the download link: https://carusel.io/ We position it as a content-discovery app where the rating of content depends exclusively on its quality, and not on the popularity of the author. The app increases the chances of finding new interests, getting unbiased opinions as well as trending news, and distributing content virally.

This is how it works:

1. A user publishes the post that is sent to a group of random people

2. If they like the post, they can support it

3. A supported post is sent out to another larger group of people, and so on

The more users support the post, the more people it gets shown to. As a result, only the most genuine and interesting content (as judged by the majority of users) receives the deserved recognition and virality. I would be really grateful if you guys could give me feedback if you enjoy using the app with content being distributed by the “human choice” algorithm rather than the artificial one like in Instagram, Pinterest, etc.? Do you think you would use it on a regular basis like Instagram, Pinterest, etc.? Thanks!

My headphones don't work on my PC

Hello,Ive been using my headphones for almost a year but today i had to go and i plugged my Headphones to my phone To listen to some music and when i came back home and i plugged my headphones to my PC but id could only hear from the right headphone jack and what i did to see if to see if the headphones were still okay and weren't any problems with them i plugged them to my phone and it worked On both sides so i plugged them to the pc and it only worked on the right side so ik the headphones work but idk what to do Ive already did a restart WITH the headphone plugged in and i dont know what to do.

So if anybody answered this already/know what is the solution would really help me because ive searched this on youtube and found nothing that could help me

Again sorry if this has been answered or in the wrong subreddit and this is the first time (i think) i plugged on the phone.

And i dont remember the name of my headphones.

Machine Learning Resume Generator With Python, TextGenRnn and AWS

I was like one of you folks once, trying to think how to write a resume before I started working as a full-stack dev at a place I love. Over the years I have obsessed about how to make it easy for every one to build their resume. Using some AI magic, I ended up creating a site (a side project) that allows you to create a resume for free. Here’s the link: https://thisresumedoesnotexist.com/

I've used https://github.com/minimaxir/textgenrnn/tree/master/textgenrnn to generate the text by feeding it data scraped from various resources. My script runs in a "while true" loop and generates a new resume every 3-4 seconds. Resume is then saved to S3 and the same resume is loaded via CloudFront for all users.

I plan to make it more and more awesome, like you add your name and designation and it fills up your resume. But, I thought it would be nice to get a feedback from you folks and see if I can add the to my to-do for the side project.

I’d the following thoughts on why I started working on it:

- I knew a guy who got a job at Google, who previously couldn’t get a job at an IT agency just cause his resume wasn’t good enough

- Not all of us have the skills required to write creatively and organize it. That doesn’t mean you don’t qualify for a job

Things like these are weirdly still a hurdle for many (it is going to be 2020 next year!). I want them not to be a hurdle anymore :slightly_smiling_face:

Is my laptop eligible for the upgrade am hoping for?

Hello 👋, I am an architect (undergraduate) and I have a lenovo laptop, not sure about the model, its g50 or something like that maybe g80 but it has 5th Gen i5 and 4gb ram with 500gb hdd, programs like autocad have started to lag alot, files usually take hour to load and as I have to complete my assignments, its very stressful, I cannot afford a new laptop at the moment but I do have a budget of around $100 So I was hoping to upgrade my hdd to ssd 120gb because storage is not an issue I dont need alot of storage and will upgrade my ram from 4 to 8 but few of my friends suggested me that my laptop wont support ssd and ram more than 8 and it wont make a difference so am here for experts advice! Please help fellow redditors!

so i've been experimenting with my usb c cable for the last hours because it seems like a kill switch for most computers

This is how my ASUS motherboard came in the mail

And its fantastic that nobody from asus nor amazon will help me, and it sucks because I want to finish my rig, but hump me in the rump, telling me they will repair it and thats it for a price? why should i pay 169.99+ for a motherboard and it comes like Edward Scissorhands built it and be told for it to work, send it to us and pay us even more money! What is this EA?

Anyways, Ive been fighting ASUS for 3 weeks over this and lost my cool so many times because Im just tired of fighting with them. Like this is a BRAND NEW MOTHERBOARD and it looks like utter garbo, has bent cpu pins, giant ass scratch and one of the cable guards are missing for a 18 pin cable (sata cable? i cant remember all the names for the cables)

I bought this back in July 2018 from amazon, and never looked inside the box, because I didnt have all the parts, but I was like "oh theres bound to be no issues, not like I could test it anyways since I dont have my CPU yet."

and then just within the last month I got all my parts, and I was like "Boy oh Boy time to crack open a cold one boys, time to start my new dream rig" and then I open my motherboard case and BAM!

Asus wont help, amazon wont replace it, asus support is a damn disaster, I have never had so many issues with support except my ISP because big ISP are normally always a pain when they are basically the monopoly in your state.

So i am a drummer who plays on electric drums. i have had issues with wires and am not "tech-savvy" so would like to know if there is a way to make my drum set connect to a headset wirelessly? it doesnt support bluetooth but is there something i can plug into the aux out slot and convert the sound into something that can be used by a bluetooth or wireless headset?

Trustworthy reviews, where do you get them from?

Trustworthy reviews of product you want to buy, where do you get them from? So usually whenever I want to find out if a product is good or not I watch the product page on Amazon if there's any reviews from customers. And here and there reviews on YouTube. But I noticed on a couple of products a lot of reviews are 'faked' (on Amazon) and on YouTube the reviewers might not always be really trustworthy to my believe and the tons of 'faked' reviews on Amazon is quite frustrating as it will keep me busy searching and searching wasting valuable time...

As someone passionate about consumer electronics, I can't explain how disappointing it is when you look to see what kind of phone someone has and its an iphone

Like, when I see someone has a phone out or a phone on their desk, I always look to see what it is. See if its uncommon. See if I recognize the model. "Ooh, is that a pixel 2 or a pixel 3? The bezel is slightly curved so it can't be a pixel 2. Maybe its a pixel 1? no it has front facing speakers. Interesting".

Or "woah that definitely is not a phone sold by major U.S. carriers, is that a Xiaomi? Which one? It slides so it has to be the Mi Mix 3.

"did that person just use an under the display finger print reader? Well its not a Samsung so it must be the oneplus 6 T".

Etc etc. And then you look.... and its an iPhone. Its so goddamn boring that roughly half of all the smartphones I see are the same 2 designs of iphones. But its better than it was 2 years ago when it was always the same ONE design of iPhone. Sigh.

HELP I need somebody HELP

Hey Reddit, so I was getting an Xbox One S and using a monitor for better response time, but the place I have to put it, is also where my dad has a little TV in that same spot. I don’t know how to or even if I can use all of this stuff (with speakers) in place of the TV. We sorta know how to get the receiver to use the monitor as it’s input instead of the TV we had before, but AUDIO IS THE PROBLEM.

If anyone can help us with how to get the audio going, since neither the Xbox nor the monitor act as their own source of sound that can be plugged into speakers.

Basically, I need to know how to get the whole setup to produce the Audio from the Direct TV channels, as it would with the TV.

Thanks to anyone who can help! I can’t use my new Xbox and monitor otherwise! 😬

WARNING: Popular game streaming application Remotr is breached.

Remotr has been breached, similarly to TeamViewer's breach a while back. My account and others have been connected to by unknown devices - one user even had their money stolen through PayPal when leaving this application open unattended to. Most of these issues have occurred in the past week or so.

Remotr lacks security options to prevent these issues from happening. There isn't even a connection history option. Remotr's contact options are broken and this application hasn't been updated since 2017.

I'd highly suggest for anyone who uses this program to uninstall it immediately and to change their passwords. Many of these breaches happen because of email/password lists being leaked and making it easy for programs to auto-connect to users whose passwords are lurking around on these lists. It's important to check out HaveIBeenPwned to see if any of your account information has been leaked. It's also important to NEVER leave your PayPal/banking information auto-filled.
