What's the panel called for remotes?
In my apartment building we have a big social area with big screen TV and it has an apple tv. The remotes don't aim at any boxes. Instead there's a smooth circle on the wall that receives all the channel inputs. What's that piece called?

Is technology destroying your workplace culture?
If you were to put together a list of all the buzzwords and hot topics in business today, you’d be hard pressed to leave off culture, innovation or disruption.
They might even be the top three. In an environment of constant technological change, we’re continuously promised a new edge. But at what cost?

Is Microsoft Office ransomware?
My Office subscription expired some time ago, and after a while, I realized that now I cannot access any of my Office files. Now Microsoft is demanding payment for me to even be able to see my files. I understand when Microsoft disables the use of the editing tools of the files but preventing altogether even seeing the files you have amassed in your computer is completely preposterous.
Malwarebytes defines ransomware: Ransomware is an emerging form of malware that locks the user out of their files or their device, then demands an anonymous online payment to restore access.
It looks like Office does meet some of the definition of ransomware, namely, it locks the user out of their files or their device, then demands an online payment to restore access.
I am outraged. I will have to pay them probably one last time to have access to my files and I will try to migrate my files to some other program and will try to avoid to the best of my ability Microsoft products for the foreseeable future until there is positive change favorable to the customer.

GPU keeps wanting to act like its being removed.
Alright so recently my graphics card is like dying.
Card is a r9 390 nitro
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2ld42hucdusey2y/video-1553300480%20%281%29.mp4?dl=0
It does this stupid glitching and tearing and its done it for months but is slowly getting worse and i'm gonna throw my card out the window. It does this, goes completely black, loops audio, and requires a hard restart.
It acts like the gpu is being unplugged. When the PC doesn't crash but the game completely does and basically tells me my GPU device has been removed or suspended.
Any ideas? Its not overclocked, temperatures are fine, it's not dirty.

Why do all my laptops slow down so much after just a few months of use?
Is There Any Point in Me Buying a New, Modern Home Router?
I currently have an old DIR-615 from D-Link (https://www.cnet.com/products/d-link-dir-615-wireless-n-router/specs/) and was curious whether or not there'd be any noticeable improvement if I switched to a modern home router. I haven't upgraded over the last decade because I figured there wouldn't be much of a difference.
-My max download is ~12 Mbps and upload is ~0.6 Mbps (I am at these consistently, so I don't expect anything here).
-I'm the only one who would be on the wireless network at any time.
-My apartment is really small, so I don't need long range.
-I am only usually gaming (Wired; ping in games is ~80 ms) or streaming video (Wired; can watch 1080p60 with no buffering).
Thank you.

Worst or the Perfect year to buy a Smartphone. ☎️
I am a student, entering college this year and have got an option to buy a new phone. Currently I am using Galaxy S6 which I bought in 2016. I can buy the S10e which recently got a price cut or upcoming OnePlus 7 Pro or even the Mate 30 if I get a Mate Watch. My S6 has been slowing down too much. For the price I bought my S6 I could have a bought a budget phone for every year. I want to buy a phone which would atleast last me 4 years.
Seeing the pace and upcoming technologies feel, I might be wrong in buying a phone out of impulse. The coming era of foldable phones and 5G make me feel they might be readily available by the upcoming year. I was in luck with with my S6, although it has terrible battery life but it was ready for me when the 4G Volte surge hit India. The notch, hole or motor may also be on there way out soon, and leaving my 3.5mm jack will also be pretty hard.

Found old voice memo recorder in my attic
Was going through old stuff to throw out to clear some space in my attic for an analog console I have that doesn’t work anymore. Anyways, I found this voice recorder and I’ve been playing around with it, talking into it.
when I play it back, I hear my voice, but I also hear a lot of other sounds and I swear, it sounds like English words sometimes. And it’s not coming from me. Am I overlapping on old recordings somehow? It’s a Panasonic IC recorder and the model number on the back is RR-DR60
Any tips on if or how I’m overlapping these old recordings?

Think about this for a second
Intel launched its first 14nm Broadwell CPUs in 2014. The same process has been used ever since, through Skylake, Kaby Lake and Coffee Lake. Intel originally claimed its 10nm process would be ready by 2015, then 2016, then 2017, then late 2019, then 2020. The latest leak states that the 10nm chips still will not have shipped by 2022.
In comparison, the James Cameron movie Avatar was originally released in 2009. James Cameron then announced the sequel Avatar 2 would be released in 2014. It was then delayed until 2015, then 2016, then 2017, then 2018. The current release date is 2020.
Will either of these ever actually materialise or will they be delayed again and when/if they do which one will have been delayed the most?

Is there any point to the Chromecast?
To mirror your phone screen to a TV you need a 3rd device which is a modem to be connected to the same wifi network. In my case, I don't have a modem because I use my phone's hotspot for internet. With a Chromecast, you still need a modem to provide an internet connection. What I have been trying to do is mirror my phone's screen to my TV while using the data on my phone to stream, so was there even any point in buying a Chromecast and what is the point of a Chromecast when new TVs have apps like Netflix built into them?

Hey! So basically, I am from a not too well-off family in a not too well-off country. My current phone has seen better days (or years even) and I slowly am in need of a new one. One that is one the outer end of my budget, but seems worthwhile was OnePlus 6T. But I know the 7 is to launch. What do you guys figure, should I wait and see which one would be better? Or do you have any suggestions as of what might be a better purchase? I am eager to learn about your opinions! Thanks in advance!

Usb Help
Hey, I found this USB in one of the computers at the library in my school. It has the letters "WC" on it and when I put it into one of the computers it came up as "INFECTION" as the port. When I looked in the USB it only had a Text file and a .zip file. The .zip file is called "agent.clean.rbx" and the .rtf (text file) is called "pw.agent.clean.rbx". I'm not sure what to think of these so if anyone may be able to help me figure out what they are that would be great. I know some people are gonna tell me to open the .zip file but my computer comes up with an error message when I try. And the .rtf file only says "Password: okrbxmdg". Comment this with recommendations or things I should do.
Ps: I can't post a picture or link for some reason but when I can I'll tell you.

Is the read/write speed of an HDD depending on the diameter that is written/read at the moment?
Since the speed with which the disk passes underneath the sensor increases with diameter read (since: circonference = P x diameter), the read/write speed of an HDD should increase as well.
At d2 = 2 x d1,
the read/write speed should actually double.
Henceforth Im asking if anyone here knows if this happens and if not, whether or not it would be possible to make it happen.

Differences between x86 and ARM in terms of real world performance
I know historically CISC and RISC were substantially different and had different pros and cons. Now it seems both have taken on characteristics of one another. But then again Apple’s A12 seems to be encroaching on laptop-level chip territory in terms of performance, even with far lower power requirements. So which is it? Is the ARM efficiency advantage almost solely theoretical, due to convergence between the two ISAs in functionality or is the A12 an example of ARM truly rivaling x86 performance?

Flagship phones these days
Over the past 2 to 3 years the smartphones have gotten so much better and not just the flagships but also the mid-range smartphones and also due to lack of innovation people have slowed down their upgrading cycles hence showing us the declining sales figures over the past year. Samsung now has tried to change this by launching the Galaxy Fold which aims at changing this by promising us the much awaited innovation in this space and also bring back the sales in the smartphone space.

Window Screensaver for TV
The dorm room I'm moving into next year is super tiny with no windows (link). In order to keep my sanity, I want to find a software where I can have it running in the background and turn a TV into a virtual window. I'd have a computer plugged into the screen so it doesn't have to load onto the TV itself or anything. Does anyone know of any software that does something similar to that?
Thank you in advance!!!

For $600 I'm looking at the 12 inch Mac Book open box at Best Buy, Pixelbook open box, or the Surface Go / Pro. Currently leaning towards the Pixel Book, but am not opposed to cheaper tablets and other devices.

New iPad coming out Q42019 or Q12020? Food for thought...
I know that its a given that new technology comes out every year and the last model becomes obsolete...
Given that if consumers are paying around $1,000 for the iPad Pro 2018 model, and there's going to be on the update on what Apple calls their 3D modeling tech “Time of Fly” (ToF) in the camera, which I guess enhancers augmented reality, is there a point in waiting to buy the "reinvented"/ update to the iPad Pro from last year?

According to code in the back-end of the Facebook app, The Social Network may soon look to bring messaging back into the main platform, as opposed to redirecting users to its separate Messenger app.
Facebook planning to lean further towards private messaging, and eventually integrate its various messaging platforms, it's apparently looking to roll back its approach.
According to Facebook: “We are testing ways to improve the messaging experience for people within the Facebook app. Messenger remains a feature-rich, stand-alone messaging app with over a billion people using it monthly to connect with the people and businesses they care about most. We do not have any additional details to share at this time."

How do you counter swarms of small autonomous drones?
Say they go bang. (Google Slaughterbots)
Things that won't work, as far as i know:
- EMP (they can be shielded)
- Anti-air - too many to shoot down, and even if you can you'll have to have placements everywhere
- Anti-drone drones - still hard to catch them, and the arms race makes this unreliable at best
So what's left?

Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL renders leak again: 3.5mm headphone jack, single rear camera, USB-C port and more
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Pixel 3a gains the 3.5mm headphone jack - something which the Pixel 3 misses out on.
- The rear features the two-tone Pixel trademark design.
- The front houses an 18:9 display with chunky bezels all around.
The Pixel 3a, which is the compact version, comes looks identical to the standard Pixel 3. The front houses an 18:9 display with chunky bezels all around. There are a single selfie camera and an earpiece - no dual selfie cameras like the Pixel 3. The rear features the two-tone Pixel trademark design; however, previous leaks have suggested that Google could be relying on a plastic unibody instead of a glass body. There are a fingerprint sensor and a single camera at the back. The sides have similar button placements and a bottom mounted USB-C port. However, the Pixel 3a gains the 3.5mm headphone jack - something which the Pixel 3 misses out on.

AR and VR Set to Revolutionize E-Commerce
A technology that touches core human experience and changes human actions is truly revolutionary.
Such is the artificial intelligence and virtual reality in the world of digital markets. We have seen a huge craze in the e-commerce development company when it comes to AR and VR as these technologies have almost blurred the line of real and virtual user experience.
- Virtual Shopping Experience: Imagine a customer visiting the shop and trying on various clothes to choose the best option. The customer is gushing here and there to try on all the varieties of the clothes. At some point, he or she gets tired or exhausted and ends up leaving the store or buy something which does not meet up to their expectations. This can disappoint the client and restrict them next time from shopping or coming to your store. Such incidents can turnover the customer and make a loss. Instead, you try the newest trend in experiencing better shopping which is VR gears. It allows you to visualize the whole store products virtually. You can feel the fabric and color of the cloth which lets you decide if you want to purchase the product or not.
- Less Time Consuming: By utilizing such devices it allows the customers to explore more products along with saving a whole bunch of time. When you give more options to the customers in less time, it is likely expected that they end up buying more than their wishlists which ultimately raises the store profit. With less time and more profit earnings, the e-commerce store owners are going to explore more of the VR devices and future innovations.
- Virtual Dressing Room: Artificial intelligence has come up with a new shopping experience by giving the facility of virtual showrooms at home. All the customer requirements are taken into consideration and given the variant shopping experience as per their ideas. The AR gives a next level satisfaction to the customer while shopping as all you are required to do is just go with the specific website or an application. Enter the preferences and there you go — better customer engagement and experience. It allows visualizing the virtual clothes on you at your home anytime. This comes with an option to choose from a wide range of clothes and try on endlessly until you end up choosing your favorite one. This allows increasing customer satisfaction which will directly hike customer engagement.

Looking for advice: college path to a career in tech
Hello!
My question maybe very unusual for this place. But I thought people that have been working in tech would have the first hand insight for a career path that leads to a 17 year old’s dreams.
My daughter has following college/major choices:
A- UCD, UCI, Cal Poly - Applied Math
B- Boston University - computer engineering
She is still searching for her career path, but would be in following:
A- BS Math + animal science minor [goal: to find a way to solve problems in the animal world in a large scale. May or may not become a vet]
B- BS Math + CS minor [goal: entering Silicon Valley tech world and become an engineer, but with a math expertise]
C- BS Math, and go to grad school for a field [animal science or CS]
D- BS in computer science [become software engineer]
I am looking for input in following:
1- What’s your thoughts on these paths she is considering?
2- Do tech companies value/hire Math major graduates?
3- Among the 3 California schools, which one has the best reputation in applied math? (With a 4.37 UC GPA and a 35 ACT, that’s all she got ]
4- Have you ever worked with people graduated from these schools? Do you have opinion in the quality of education from these schools.
5- how important is it for math major to go to a graduate school and get a master degree?
6- We love cal poly campus, (visited today)however, the list of graduate schools the math major advanced to in recent years seem to be not very top notch. Is this an indication that math program there is not highly regarded?
Thanks in advance.

Is the Bitmo app using stolen/scammed gift cards?
There's an app called Bitmo where you can buy and gift digital gift cards for many major businesses. They sometimes offer deals where you can get 20% off on a gift card. I don't understand how Bitmo or the companies they're working with could possibly be profitable with this method. I know that scammers who ask their victims for gift card codes usually resell the codes for less money, so I'm wondering if that's potentially what Bitmo is doing? That's my best theory for how they make money or can offer gift cards for way lower than the actual price. I was thinking they could be selling data, but they can't be getting data that is sellable just based on people buying gift cards, unless they're doing something illegal with the data they're getting. Either way, it seems extremely fishy and I wouldn't trust putting my information in their system. If anyone knows or has any idea what they're doing, please let me know. I'm mainly just curious about it and very confused.

First world problem advice
Not sure if this is the right place to post my woes, but if it isnt please tell me where!
I have an ipad i use fir my studies, works great love it. I also have a macbook i used to use all the time fir general use, however recently i got myself a desktop which has become my main hub, gaming and workplace, leaving the ipad to when i go to the library. But now my macbook is just laying around gathering dust and i have no real use for it. Selling it isnt really an option because its somewhat new (long story) ans selling it would just not give me back the value its worth.
So my question is, for people that have the whole thing (desktop, laptop and tablet) what do people use your laptop to differentiate it and still feel useful and relevant?

hardware based synergy, (like a kvm, but with automatic switching)?
I have a linux laptop and a windows desktop, right now I'm using synergy to connect them to 1 set of peripherals however there is a bit too much lag, even with a ptp tunnel. I was wondering if anyone would know of a hardware based kvm that could do the same thing synergy does but without having to push a button or run commands. The drag and drop of files is not something I need so I'm really just looking for a kvm that can automatically swap between the computers by just moving the mouse far enough up or down on my mouse pad.
Thanks!

Can you make a macro-button into a keybinding?
I see that the title is a little hard to understand, but this is basically what I'm looking for.
I have a Razer Blackwidow Chroma, which has 5 macro-buttons on the left side of the keyboard.
What I was wondering about was if I could make those macros into a keybinding. Like button1 for example, meaning you can use macro buttons as extra keybindings for video games, where you want more keybindings.

For instance, Huawei was the first to introduce the punch hole camera and Vivo for the on-screen fingerprint scanner and pop up selfie camera.
