Android phone calling phone numbers randomly
Help! Over the course of the last two weeks, my phone (Honor 7) (Android 6.0) has been randomly calling phone numbers. As far as I know, it has only called my mom, but it is possible that I haven't just been informed of other calls. There are times when I pick up my phone and it's already calling someone and sometimes it calls people when it's in my pocket or just lying on a surface. I don't know what could be causing this. Please help!

Heat resistant plastics
So I work for a company making PCBs, and we employ a selective solder machine. I'm looking for a plastic that can be machined into a jig to hold a certain part in position, and not deform over time due to the heat. I'm not sure of the exact temperature it runs at, but I believe someone once told me "well over 200 c". It doesn't have to be NASA quality plastic, just anything that will hold shape and preferably not break the budget. If anyone knows of anything that might do it, thanks in advance.

My Top 4 Favorite Gaming Laptops
I was bored and I like making lists, so here we go!
This list goes from Least Favorite to Favorite.
-
Razer Blade I chose this laptop because it is a great laptop for gaming with a GTX 1060 video card, and an Intel Core i7-6700HQ. Its design is beautiful and thin for carrying. The only big con is the price. For the starting model, 1080p with a 256GB SSD, will run you $1,799.99. I find that a bit ridiculous.
-
GE72VR Apache Pro-024 This laptop has a better price to value than the Razer above. It has an Intel Core i7-6700HQ, a GTX 1060, 12GB RAM, 1080p Display, and finally a 1TB HDD along with a 128GB SSD. The price of this laptop couldn't be better charging you $1,149 on Amazon. A lot better of a price than the Razer above.
-
ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 First laptop on the list with a GTX 1070 and a 256GB SSD along with a 1TB HDD. This laptop made it in third because of according to some reviews this laptop actually has some major design flaws. Like flimsy materials, but otherwise this laptop is great with an i7-6700HQ, 1080p display and 16GB of ram.
-
Alienware 17 R4 I went with the Alienware 17 R4 because although like Razer, the price is a bit high, but with this one you get advantages. For example there are many aesthetic pieces, like RGB lighting can be seen almost anywhere on the laptop. Its stats vary but there are many options.
There's my list! Hope you enjoyed! Bye!

CPU Maxing Out question
Hello, I have a hardware question as I have just built my PC and have a question about why my CPU might be maxing out in the games I play, I have been playing Titanfall 2 and notice my frame rate stutters a lot and notice my CPU is reaching 100%usage, I don't know why though, I have a i5 4690k, a ample PSU, decent water cooler as I have overclocked to 4.0 ghz, a GTX 1080 and a clean windows install. Is the 4690k just weaker to have a 1080 paired with? O have no other programs running in the background besides Discord but that take minimal resources. So what might be the cause of my CPU usage? Is there something in windows i can turn off? Or did I just make a poor processor choice? If I can get any answers I would be extremely gratefull, thanks

Anyone try out the new Airpods that's already familiar with other wireless ear pods?
There are rave reviews for the Airpods floating around, but I can never really trust reviews of apple products as much due to how much brand loyalty they have.
Has anyone who's use other ear pods tried out the apple airpods? How do they compare?
I was thinking I could use them, but then I figured since wireless headphones range from $10 to hundreds, as do bluetooth pieces, that there must be equivalent or better stuff out there in that price range.

X box 1s issues help please
So i am having issues with my tv or my xbox one s i can not tell which. So anytime i watch netflix it works for a couple episodes then it will start flashing black and cutting audio off for a second or 2 and then it cuts to a snowy white screen and stays there until i change inputs and back.
Here is a little more info:
I have a vizio e3-50 series it is 4k i just returned it and exchanged it for a brand new one today but it is still having the same issues.
It only happens on the HDMI port 1 and not the others. Hdmi port 1 is the only port that supports the 4k.
So does anyone know any ideas?

Why do some countries have data caps?
I live in the U.K, and pretty much everyone here has unlimited data from their ISP, but on reddit I hear about people in america and australia etc. Who have data caps of around 50GB, I can't imagine not havinf unlimited data usage, why is it like this over in other countries? The technology cant be the issue, I know in the US they get far better speeds than I can get in the UK, can anyone explain this?

Question about bluetooth trackers
For a game i am looking to hide some packages around town and would like for some1 to find them after they win a game. GPS has no accuracy so i want to combine it with GPS cordinates and a bluetooth tag. But most tag can only be paired with a phone physical. Are there trackers where you can connect with with a code without being paired before? Did my research but none found.

How do I force a bluetooth connection with a paired device while that device is currently connected with another paired device?
Occasionally I get settled in with a device to watch netflix, only to find that my headphones are currently connected to the last used device in another room. Right now I have to get up and find the other device and either shut it off, or manually disconnect the bluetooth connection with the headphones before I can manually connect with the device I want to use. Seems pretty clumsy, especially when I'm feeling exceptionally lazy.
So.. How can I tell the device I'm holding to just "take over" the connection, forcing the other device to disconnect?

the das keyboard 5Q kickstarter fiasco
just wondering if anybody is following the 5Q kickstarter campaign. I've been on since day 1 (super early bird yay), and a lot of backers are PISSED! demanding refunds and all that...rofl pop the popcorn.
basically a ton of people didn't like the font, complained about it for a thousand years, Das -finally- acknowledged them (though they were quite latent in communication...at least people felt so), designed and charged for the alternate keycaps...
and now they've changed the shipping cost at the "Survey for Shipping" (which was included in the campaign...). EDIT they now refer to the original cost of shipping as "partial payment", which wasn't in the campaign description anywhere.
oh and some people are being charged over 3000 for shipping, which probably isn't right.
my favourite comment so far is:
"Amazing... $60 for 45 days shipping. And announce only when product has to be shipped. I can ship elephant from China for such price faster."
and runner up:
"I'm kind of disappointed that there's an ADDITIONAL ~$14 USD shipping charge for the alternative font keycaps -- which is already another extra $30 (but that cost I at least understand). Are you shipping them in a titanium box from Antarctica, or what?"
"Shipping: $3478.00... Im paying for one keyboard not a container of them..."

Macbook Air vs Ultrabook
Hey Reddit!
I'm about to embark on a big world trip over the next year or two. I've got my SLR I've got my gopro and what I'm missing is a compact laptop device that can handle a bit of post photo/video processing, but versatile enough to travel with and fit into a small daypack. I currently have no other apple devices that I plan to travel with, I have however owned them in the past and enjoy their userfriendly software. My question remains, is the MacBook Air worth the extra few hundred? Or given my scenario would a Ultrabook be more vuable for me? Keeping in mind my budget is no more than $1200 USD.
Many thanks in advance!

Help Us Map Out The Future Of Simulation (x-post from /r/Games)
We are a consortium of companies and academics researching the future of simulation technologies on behalf of the defence community. As part of our research activities we are trying to gain an understanding of where interested parties foresee simulation and gaming environments progressing in the future and so we have some questions which we would like to put to the gaming community.
-
What developments might be seen in Non-Player Characters and game AI behaviours/interact-ability in the next five or so years?
-
How do you think cloud-based computing/virtualised hardware will affect gaming/simulation? Assuming a suitable internet connection, what pros and cons can you see for a virtualised gaming experience?
-
What technological advances/innovations do you see improving player-to-player interaction in collaborative social/MMO style environments?
-
What physical qualities of the real world, such as weather or reflections, being more accurately represented would most improve your gaming/simulation experience?
-
With VR technology maturing, what parts of gaming/simulation, such as control input or 2D UXs (billboards), won’t transfer well to these new platforms? What new developments will be required to replace these?
-
Which games have given you the best and worst immersive experience and why?

How to Remove An Apple ID From A Used Apple Mobile Device
Are you considering buying a used iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch? If the previous owner hasn't removed the Activation Lock from the device, then this is going to cause some problems. This article describes what you can do to remove the previous Apple ID from the device. If you have bought a device that has had this removed already, then great news! One of our previous articles, gives some information on some of the clever things that Siri can do, so please click here to read it if you haven't already.
The Activation Lock, mentioned above, is used by Apple on their iOS devices to stop unauthorised users from using the device, if it was lost or stolen for example. You may think that carrying out a factory reset may solve the problem, but unfortunately it won't because of this.
If you have bought the device privately, the best solution is to go back to the person that you bought the device from and ask them to remove the device from their associated Apple ID. This can be done by following these steps: Sign in to iCloud.com Go to Find My iPhone Select “All Devices” to open a list of devices linked to their account, and select the device to be removed Click “Remove from Account” If you don't know who the previous owner was, if you bought it from a retailer who sells pre-owned equipment for example, then you may be out of luck. In theory Apple Stores could bypass this feature, but as it's a security feature, they may be unwilling to do it.
My advice, if you are considering buying a pre-owned piece of kit from a retailer, is to check with them that the Apple ID has been removed before you buy. A reputable dealer would normally check that this has been done with the person selling it to them anyway. The same goes for if you are buying it directly from the person who owned it previously, then you shouldn't go wrong and enjoy your new tech!

MVPs, a great way to launch your idea quickly (+examples)
Airbnb, Dropbox and LinkedIn. All of them are amazing platforms with a huge number of users. Yet they did not start in the same form as we know them now. There are countless experiments and continuous learning from them that preceded this. The Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is a fundamental concept in these experiments. 95 percent of newly launched products fail. Let that sink in. 95 percent of newly launched products fail. Products developed by large companies with big budgets, the best minds, the latest technologies and best patents. That is not the issue. But what is? Many companies wait too long before launching a product. The customer will only be faced with the product when in the eyes of the creator it is 'finished'. Take it or leave it. And in 95 percent of the cases, they leave it. Budget spent, project failed.
If you are going to fail, fail fast.
It is okay if an MVP fails
A Minimum Viable Product is an experiment aimed at testing or validation of assumptions about what customers want. You'll first test the assumptions that are most dangerous to the success of your project. The MVP doesn’t need to be be a product, it is the essence of the product that matters. Design it in the manner that is most suitable to get it into the hands and minds of customers. Creating them will be based on minimum cost and effort, maximum validated customer insights goal. Customers do not like it? Same assumption, new MVP. Is it what customers want? Next assumption, new experiment!
They led the way
In the startup world the MVP approach is widely used. Unicorns such as Airbnb, Dropbox and LinkedIn launched MVPs to test if their value proposition was correct. For this, they used a variety forms. To help you kickstart making your own MVP, you can read the most important examples here.
Airbnb
Airbnb launched a website with only a functional front end. The user could not do anything with it, the makers did. Filled with just a few pictures of a random apartment they tested whether there was interest in renting other people's rooms instead of booking a hotel.
Dropbox
Dropbox began with only a short video showing the product operation explained it wanted to launch its creators. The film was a huge success and Dropbox gained valuable feedback that enabled them to validate its core assumptions.
Groupon
Groupon began as a platform to bring people together, to achieve things which they alone could not. Over time they began to set up daily deals through a mailing, the success of which we know Groupon for today. They could have chosen to use a costly automated system from day one. At the time, however, they did not know the great success that Groupon would become. They decided to test their value proposition every day by manually sending an email. Laborious, but dirt cheap. The opposite of an expensive computer system. This has obviously been implemented now, but only when Groupon knew that it would not cost them their homes.
The creators of Twitter originally started at a podcasting station called Odeo. The monthly SMS charges under his staff were so high that they were looking for an alternative. They launched 'twttr', a little tool that was designed by the staff inside of the company. With the feedback from staff and after having launched numerous MVPs, the result was Twitter as we know it now.
Spotify
The MVP of Spotify was a landing page to which they permitted users. This helped to see what features Spotify were valuable and which are not. It not only helped them to improve their value proposition, but also to create momentum they needed to enter the US market. Spotify was too big to ignore, which helped them overcome licensing issues in the music industry.
Uber
Uber started offering taxi rides in luxury cars and limousines. In 2010 Uber conducted an experiment on a small sample group in San Francisco. It was initially focused on contacting iPhone users with taxi drivers through an app. Later it experimented with features like car hailing and fare splitting. The experiments resulted in feedback which they developed further and served as a base for future funding. Uber attracted more and more drivers and users. The full-scale launch of Uber was a fact.

Data will eventually be billed like electricity and other utilities
I think data will eventually be handled like electricity. We are rapidly approaching the time when data rates don't really matter, just how much you are taking the network. So like gas, electricity and other utilities, you would be charged per MB (or GB).

I'm looking for a smart watch
I'm looking for a smart watch that doesn't fully focus on fitness and has the ability to control my music and social media such as skype or discord. so far all smart watches / bands I have looked at are way more interested in fitness than anything else.
My other problem is that I have a windows phone so that narrows down the playing field a bit too, so I'm wondering if you know of a wearable that doesn't focus mostly on fitness and that is compatible with windows phone.
Thanks.

Is this download method possible (weird, newbie question)
Basically I'm on a PC and have to download FH3 online as there's no disc version as you guys know, it's around a 55gb-60gb as various people have told me yet my internet speed is 1.4mb/s. I'm fucked. My uncle owns a computing company with a direct line of 250mb/s. would it be possible to download the game there, stick it on a 128gb USB stick and then download it to my PC at home through the stick?

Possibility of having a remote control for everything
Hey guys,
You know, the smart remotes are super popular these days (I treat the Alexa or Google Home or speakers as smart remotes as well) And I myself is working on similar products.
I'd love the idea of getting a central remote for all my devices, but this seems to be limited in users' home. And my idea is to make this kind of systems function OUTSIDE the smart home, say, bringing the Alexa to a hotel room and I can control the devices in that room via the speaker.
What do you guys think about this?

Hey... Mic experts anyone?
Hello everyone and an early merry Christmas to you all! I have a bit of a small but important question for whoever can help. I have been recently looking into the blue yeti microphone and a few addons including the radius II shock mount and a pop filter. However when I look further for the boom arm I find that the most recommended boom arm is the Rode PSA1 which is very much out of my price range. I am currently searching for a good mic boom arm that can be reliable out of the box to hold the 2.7 pound total if the microphone while maintaining my 20-40 buck price range. I have found a few contestants that say they can hold 1.5 KG (3.3ib) however there are always reviews saying it's sags with the settup I'm looking at. I would very much appreciate it if someone can help me with my current situation. Thank you very much all, and have a Merry early Christmas!

Movie Projector Question
I'm looking into buying a projector to display movies from my computer, however the place I'm going to has no available power sockets.
All of the projectors I've seen online require an active connection with a power socket, and the really expensive ones have an inbuilt rechargeable battery (but I'm looking to keep it inexpensive).
Are there any work-arounds I could use with the projectors that need to be plugged in? One of the options I've explored are AC power supplies I charge up, but I've been doing some googling and I haven't found any cheap ones.
The end result is being able to project (preferably 1080 res) without needing a power socket. Any way this is possible?

Information Technology Student Looking for More Ways to be Employable
To start with I'm prefacing with three statements:
Apologies if this isn't the right place. I live in a small community in New Zealand. Absolutely not interested in programming.
Hello people of r/tech!!
I am currently working towards eventually getting a degree in Computer Science. My grades are pretty okay, would guess at a C+/B- average (maybe even C average if I change places and cross credit the papers I did last year). I plan on majoring in networking and security when the time comes to choose.
Employability is pretty bleak for graduates who don't have the luxury of having referencable IT experience. I'm included in that bubble.
Right now I am planning to start a website that hosts everything that I have done and will do in personal time and in education. It's not a generic Square Space drag-and-drop website but one I want to do myself: thinking of a base portfolio with an attached forum where I make "blog posts" of things I've gone and done. I also do the odd video for a YouTube network.
The domain I want is available (in both .com and the more expensive .co.nz flavour) and I have the gear to do it with: An HP DL380 G5 server that needs a good ol' password reset, need blank CDs where I only have blank DVDs. A Cisco router to "practice" on. And a Dell switch for the same purpose.
To the point: what else can I do to better improve the chances of making it to an interview once I eventually graduate?
Thanks and apologies again if this isn't the right place.
