Seeking advice for cell phone case

Could someone here make a recommendation for me on a phone case, or direct me to a more appropriate subreddit?

I have a Google Pixel. I'm looking for a case that includes a card slot. I want to put my key card for work in the case. The retractable badge retrievers keep breaking​, and I refuse to wear a lanyard, so my card sits loose in pocket.

The issue is that the key card has a quarter-sized chip that adheres to the middle of the card, thus making the card the same thickness as two cards, for purposes of choosing a phone case. I want a case that has one slot on the back. Many reviews I read for the cases out there say that people tried to fit two cards and they were unsuccessful. I'm hoping to avoid the wallet-style large leather cases that include several tiered slots. I want one slot I can slide my key card into.

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

EDIT: I can tell from the Community Info that this may not be the most appropriate subreddit for this, but if anyone knows the best place for me to pose this question, please let me know.

Looking for some tech help, Reddit.

What should I be aware of as I make the switch on mobile platforms from android to apple?

1) How well integrated are google's services?

2) If I'm not mistaken, bloatware is not going to be a thing anymore.

3) As with any device switch, I don't want to lose contacts, texts, pictures, etc. Pictures and texts are backed up through google but what about contacts? I can live with lost game data provided they aren't backup up on the cloud, which they probably actually are.

4) Spec wise, I'm not looking for the best of anything. I would like a well rounded device with good battery life and a good camera, but at the end of the day, the reason I'm making the cross-platform switch is reliability and longevity. Any other things I should keep in mind to make the transition as smooth as possible?

This may not be the proper subreddit, but I want to invent something that doesn't seem to be made yet. Well, technically it has been made, just not a bigger scale than I have in mind.

Black box sends out a signal, the gray box turns it into usable information. The signal contains something to define a letter/number. Example (1=H, 2=I, 3=D, 4=U, 5=E) 12 3435=HI DUDE Then the signal would be 12 3435

Heya! Small question r/tech, how (or can I) disable "power save mode" on Dell Monitors?

My issue with this is that when booting up, I can interact with the monitor menu but the only way I can see what's going on in my com is through switching my input over and over again, and if that doesn't work, I need to manually force restart my monitor. (Btw my monitor is a Dell S2716DG). If you experienced this or know how to fix it, please tell!!! Thanks!

No login on pc?

No one in my household is going to get on my pc, should I even have a log in? I don't believe it's possible to log in to my computer if no one is at the keyboard. Trying to change bios settings and logging in over and over again is irritating; I know how to disable my login password, I'm just not sure how secure it is.

What do you call it!?

I have an employee manual that will be recorded so employees can listen instead of read. I also want the voice to match the text on-screen with the text highlighted as the person reads. I'm just not sure what to call this "feature" so I can hire the right person for it.

Question: Ethernet patch cables

I work for an ISP and customers are able to purchase their own routers. Recently, I've noticed that straight out of the box belkin routers come with a patch cable that only has 2 twisted pairs. These routers range from cheapo to high end. The question is why? What is the purpose of this? Who would do such a thing? Is it just belkin?

Question - Office Tracking Tech

I need to implement a system which tracks individuals passing through a door. The individual will need to carry a tag of some sort for identification, which can be in their backpack, pocket, purse, etc. We do not want people to have to swipe a card, so close proximity RFID is not a good solution. The budget is around $500-700 for the entire solution (excluding the cost of any computers). The range that the scanner will need to be able to detect a tag inside of a backpack, etc., is roughly 8ft.

What sort of technology may be a good solution to look into? It turns out, through researching RFID, that the obvious choice of RFID gets expensive for reading at that range.

Tizen 4.0 OS Revealed By Samsung Electronics

Tizen 4.0 OS has been revealed by Samsung Electronics. It has more variety in its applications compared to its previous operating systems.

This news was exposed in San Francisco in Tizen Developers Conference. The latest version was shown which offers more to the users and it is applicable with not just smartphones but also TVs and other devices.

Tizen Developers Conference started in the year 2012 when the first open-source Tizen 1.0 was announced by the company. It’s been almost 5 years now that Samsung was using Linux-based Tizen models for its smartphones. Now Tizen 4.0 has further explored its dimensions, it has not restricted itself to the smartphones. It has extended its application in devices like bulbs, thermostats, and scales.

Interesting: Smartphones that might overtake Google Pixel

The company also displayed its Z4 Smartphone. Z1 was launched in January 2015 and from then onwards the company has been comping wi better models in its smartphone.

Samsung will work in collaboration with Microsoft to provide the developers with development tools and languages so that they are able to develop Tizen apps.

YouTube Question

I bought an iPhone 6s from someone, and while watch YouTube today a small bar popped up at the top of the screen with "Suggested Video: Foot Fetish somethingorother". I know YouTube shows recommended videos, but I've NEVER had a banner style one show up while watching a video. It's not signed into an account, and since my child uses YouTube on my phone I'm just wondering if this is an actual YouTube feature or possible a virus/other app (I'm still sorting through the ones on the phone). It wasn't a banner from the phone that drops down from the top of the screen, but was a simple box that appeared towards the top of the YouTube screen.

Need alternative to hearing aid (at $8000!): can any recorder playback instantaneously?

I'm really deaf. I function in my work fine online, which is all via skype, as I can turn up the sound. But soon will have to attend conferences, where I now must hear in the 'meat world' too, and found it will cost $8,000 NZD for this 'most challenging' hearing situation; lots of voices, background noise.

If I buy a handheld recorder, and use ear buds with it, is there one that can playback instantly so the device can hear the person talking, and play it back into my earphones live so I can respond in real time?

These are people who know my job is writing up recordings of what they tell me, so I won't look as silly as you might imagine.

But I can not find such a product. Any suggestions?

Time to resurrect Welchia against WannaCry?

Recently I was reading on Welchia and I really noticed how the spread method of WannaCry is really similar to Blaster.

Maybe would be good to create a new helpful worm that uses the SMB exploit to spread, maybe try to decrypt the computer and delete WannaCry once the payment check mechanism is exploited (Saw an attempt at that, not sure the progress), patch the system and delete itself.

[Question/Discussion] Why can't you chose your Smartphone's OS?

Hey, reddit. There's been a question on my mind for a very long time. On PC, nearly every OS (well, except OSX) magically seems to work with every Hardware. I've had Windows XP, 7 and now Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 on one (very old) Notebook, and there doesn't seem to be an issue with it. Why is it that you don't get the same freedom with your smartphone? I know that you can install Ubuntu Mobile (yeah, that was a thing) on third party devices, but only select ones, but aside I've never seen anyone giving away/selling licences for Android or Windows10M. Basically your smartphone seems to be locked to the OS you buy it with.

Microsoft recently dropped support for a bunch of windows phones, and I've already mentioned Ubuntu only being supported by a handful of devices. Is it a hardware issue? Is there simply no money in the market? What does everybody think (or know) about this?

Sorry for the long post, but I'm really curious about this.

Lighting electrolysis

Extremely loud beeping coming from iPhone 7

So today during dinner, my iPhone starts beeps on repeat wicked loud, louder than the volume should allow and it sounds just like a fire alarm as well with near same volume. There was no notifications on my phone like it might be an alarm or anything, it was just beeping and didn't stop till I powered down my phone all the way. I was thinking it may be a virus but I'm not sure. Any ideas what might have caused this and how to fix it?

Bluetooth Turntable vs Aux Chord Turntable?

not sure if this is the right sub to ask this question, if not then feel free to point me to the correct sub.

anyway, i'm looking to buy a turntable to play vinyls, and my dad thinks i should buy one that connects to speakers via bluetooth. i'm afraid that the bluetooth may detract some from the sound quality though, so i think i should get one that connects with an aux cable.

so am i right in believing that bluetooth would decrease the quality of the sound, or would it not have any effect?

Looking for the best antivirus for an older computer user

Hey there, hopefully this is the best place to post this. I'm trying to help my father-in-law as best as possible with a new laptop purchase. He's looking at an HP laptop with Windows 10 (this one: http://ift.tt/2r1Wcjx) and has asked me if he should purchase 2 years of Norton Anti-Virus with it for some special deal they're doing; I believe it's 2 years for the price of one.

I've been out of the PC game for a while now, but I know there used to be a lot of negative feelings toward Norton. Just wondering what things are looking like these days?

What would the best anti-virus be for someone who's got basic computer skills, uses their laptop for emails, browsing, news and photo storage? He's been known to accidentally click bad links before and wouldn't have the first clue about how to spot a virus coming right at him.

Any tips?

I have a set of trust speakers that use a USB and an audio Jack (plugged in the back of my computer). Everytime I turn these on to listen to something, they always have a slight static noise, and when I turn on my desk lamp (next to it) the speaker which does not have the controls on it, starts to make a slight buzzing noise. Is OpenVPN server at home useless?

Hi,

I'm considering setting up a VPN on my home server. However, I've been debating the usefulness in protecting my privacy.

I understand that setting up a VPN connection can have several benefits such as when connected to a shady network, I will be secured between my server and device, can bypass any website restrictions on that network etc, access my home network.

But, the connection is only secure between my device and my server. So if the end target is to more strongly enforce my right to privacy, my server which directs the now unencrypted, outgoing traffic, is still connected to my isp, still has the ip address of my house, and is still open to my country's government, isp etc.

If the server is located in another country than of course my traffic will be encrypted until that server is reached, and then the outgoing unencrypted traffic will assume the new ip address of the vpn server which will arrive at the desired website, with me being masked since it has a completely different ip address in a completely different country.

So I've been googling and I have to agree that self-hosted vpn is much better, but not matter how much I googled, this disadvantage I highlighted is never discussed online. Am I missing something, or is my explanation correct?

Could someone please enlighten me how I can secure BOTH my privacy and security???

I have considered either using something like Amazon AWS or my home server, or just going with a service which I would least prefer since I am not in control of my data. As I said, from the way I see it, self hosted vpn provides security but not privacy as I explained above.

RIP OR NAH?

So this is my Acer S235HL http://ift.tt/2pMGtb5 , and I was playing battlefield 1 and got angry at some campers and the threw a plastic water bottle at the screen (not the cap side) I don't even know how that broke the screen but it did, I'm trying to save some money as I'm already in debt to my dad for breaking my phone, any chance someone could help?

What should I pick?

Hey, I'm considering to buy some new tech. I'm looking on iOS right now and I don't know if I should buy iPad 5th gen or iPhone SE. But at same time only 2 devices what I have are Android phone (Alcatel POP 4 plus) and tablet (LG G Pad V400), so I have no computer. Should I buy cheap laptop with Pentium CPU?

Alternative ways to get streaming source data

I am building a music sharing app i.e (you paste any URL from any* streaming site, you get all other streaming sites links to the same song/album). I managed to make this work as a proof of concept (using Bing Cognitive Search) but the rate limit is quite low at 1k p/m, i'm looking for alternative ways to get the different urls. The real question here is how do I get rid of bing cognitive search, as the 1k p/m quota is too low, and quite expensive for the paid ones, what other ways can I get different URLS to the same song or album on different streaming sites?

Data vs Calling

Might just be a dumb question, but I was wondering if toggled data rates would affect the speed at which you are able to send/receive texts (not including picture/video).

Friend of mine seems to have issue with this on an iPhone 6 with Verizon. Takes obscene amounts of time to send/receive text over data and she seems to think it has to do with her data cap.
