Hey guys. I’m from Australia, and have had trouble with theft and crime in general around my neighbourhood . Was wondering if anyone could help with an affordable, wireless, motion sensor security system. Any tips would be helpful . TIA.

How do you stop from broadcasting on a other device?
My parents recently got a.smart tv and I found myself accidently broadcasting on it and don't know how...
I will never need to broadcast anything from my phone and now I'm terrifed that I may accidently do it anytime.

Better quality Netflix w casting or off of Xbox?
I have been casting my phone to my tv to watch Netflix but one day I tried using the Netflix app on Xbox and it appears different. It makes sense for my Xbox one to have better quality since it is connected to the TV by a cord, but I'm not sure if there is data out on what looks the best.

Facebook Might Not Be Free Anymore...
In 2008, when registering to become a member of social networking site Facebook, the first slogan that caught the eye of network users was the slogan ("It's free and always will be") (roughly translated: Free and always like that). Having been on Facebook's homepage for more than a decade, the famous tagline is right under the Account Signing button, emphasizing the "free" element of the social networking platform.
However, in an unexpected move, the tagline slogan was silently changed to "It's quick and easy", according to a recent discovery by Business Insider.
Using the website photo storage tool Wayback Machine, the site discovered the changes made by Facebook between August 6-7. Although Facebook has not yet provided an official explanation for this change, but according to Bussiness Insider, these may be new steps of Facebook.
Up to now, Facebook has always affirmed that users will not have to pay any fee when registering to become a member on social networks. Instead, the platform operates and benefits from an ad-based business model.
In addition, Facebook's previous slogan "Free and always will be" actually contradicts the platform's policies. Specifically, in Clause 11 of the "Things to Know" section, Facebook asserts "We cannot guarantee that the platform will always be free". =>Muhahahahahaha

Career Path
Hi all,
I currently work in IT as a Desktop Support Assistant. I was promoted from being a Helpdesk position because I am very proactive in tickets, patient with customers and can problem solve most situations with limited instruction. My background is I have an English Degree and most of my work experience is in customer service. Mainly the jobs I've held have been either in hospitality, and food and beverage. So I love helping and working with people.
However that lifestyle got old, and I wanted a steady career. So I started working on a Helpdesk and yes, without any prior education. It was a workstudy position at my college.
The reason I'm posting here is because I've had interviews and know I bombed them. It's starting to look like I need to reconsider systems. It seems like multiple places have requirements I don't have. I love working in systems and the process of learning, but I'm in my thirties and married, and want to have kids in the next few years. So I have the opportunity to take the right steps before having kids and the whole nine yards.
For instance, I've applied to a graduate IT online program. I've known some non-tech people that went to grad school for Comp Sci or Data Science, and they said it wasn't that bad.
Should I consider another path or sticking with systems is the best option? Are there certain IT fields easier for non-tech train people to enter?
Most importantly, what are the basics I need to be successful?
I really look forward to reading the advice you folks post. Thanks!

Choosing my first smartwatch
I don't really have experienced any smartwatches before. I am really used to wearing a g-shock watch. So I'm looking for a smartwatch that has some fitness capability and that I can receive notifications on. So far I've seen that Garmin is more sports oriented. I also don't want to spend a lot of money on a smart watch so I've been looking at a few so far such as: forerunner 45, forerunner 235, S3 frontier. These are somewhat in my price range but I've seen there's more options out there in this range. What are your recommendations and also what do you think about the Chinese options from Huawei/xiaomi? Also how well do the notifications from texts/messenger/WhatsApp work on the Garmin watches?

Kids facial recognition
I dunno if they do this but if the phone sees your kid playing with it, it recogizes your child and opens the phone into a kids version of the OS bright loud buttons, loaded educational programs depending on age, recording their face because thats cool, have to teach them how to hold it. If theyre older their apps and games, messages, private text if they do share with their parents. Theyre will be alrithims to catxh people like that soon.

Recommended ads
What if facebook and google could do recommend ads, where if youre friends are satisfied with a product, a disclaimer like 'brian may recommends this' s shown over the ad, or they can shoot a short video blog about their experience with the product from their webcam. The more ads result in buys for the recommender, the more they get paid. Or if its too little, you could tie in being a public consumer to like a discount off a phone. So if you do surveys, recommend and review products a certain number times a month, you get a little off your phone.

Technopreneur Without The Technology
A very wrong assumption around the world is that in order to be a technology entrepreneur, one should be able to write complicated codes or invent something that the world has never seen. I can share from personal experience that nothing can be further from the truth.
This is the reason why people with the most brilliant ideas never even consider jumping into the technopreneur space because the thought is, "How can I be a technopreneur when I can't even code?" However, the reality is you don't need to know how to code at all. In order to be a technopreneur, the one and only thing required is an idea -- an idea that changes, improves and redefines the way business gets done.
The art of thinking, creating and expanding businesses is all about innovation. The good news is that innovation is not limited to first-movers. Google did not build the first search engine. Amazon was not the first online store. Facebook was not the first social networking website. However, at this time, these are some of the most profitable companies on the planet.
Why You Don't Need To Know How To Code To Be A Technopreneur
Here's the simple answer: Innovation is different from the invention. Inventing something means creating something that has never existed. Innovating means solving problems with tools that already exist. And innovation is the key to entrepreneurial success, not invention. So there's no need to be an inventor. Instead, being an innovator with a business idea is enough to make a successful technopreneur.
Can you take the leap of faith? Lots of potential innovators have ideas, but very few can articulate or sort out how to effectively bring those ideas to life. Having traveled across 50 countries and spoken at hundreds of conferences, I've met a lot of people full of great ideas, yet they are very skeptical and hesitant to execute. The potential of those ideas is sometimes so immense that I hate to see them go to waste, which is why I started my own incubator and investment program to help entrepreneurs who may lack technical expertise.
Steps To Becoming A Technopreneur
• Find the right partner: My first piece of advice for any young entrepreneur is to find partners who have the abilities that you lack. If you are a techie, find a marketing expert. If you are a business guy, find a tech partner. If you have nothing, go find a team that has techies, marketers and managers. But whatever you do, don't let a great idea go unexecuted -- never leave it to rot. With the opportunities available today, I believe it is an absolute sin to consider shortcomings as limitations.
• Double down on your skills: Develop expertise in whatever business function that you choose to do yourself. Your contribution to the project in terms of skill has to justify your role in the project and with the team. Whatever role you decide for yourself, ensure that any challenges regarding the role can be resolved solely by you, but never hesitate to ask for help. The team will depend on your problem-solving ability regarding your skill, so never let them down.
• Learn to lead: Once you have the right partners and have brushed up on your skills, it's important to remember that leadership will be a real test any entrepreneur will have to endure. Weak leaders are bad entrepreneurs. Be the first one to accept responsibility and the last one to assign blame. Inspire discipline in the team and inspire confidence from the customers. Companies with weak leadership will always fall as tough times in business are inevitable. Learn from mentors and experienced professionals to develop leadership abilities by following them on social platforms and reading their books.
• Accept failure and rejection: Even the most successful entrepreneurs have had to face a lot of rejection and failure. Sometimes unexpected legal complications, staff resigning, insufficient funds and partners leaving midway are something I have personally dealt with. But never let it be the end of your entrepreneurial journey. If your employees leave, hire new ones. If your partners leave, find someone else. If you run out of funds, bootstrap or borrow to restart. Accept these instances as part of the process. Entrepreneurship is not for everybody and challenges are the filter to separate the wheat from the chaff.
I followed the same steps to build my business and help many others achieve success. Becoming a technopreneur happened just along the way. Get rid of the excuse that non-techies can't build tech companies. Once you get over the mental block that only techies can build successful tech companies, your probability of creating the next Amazon or Facebook will increase exponentially.
Don't forget -- a little over a decade ago, half of the most valuable organizations in the world were oil companies. Now it's all technology -- Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook. Are you going to be the next one?

Help, need to recover data from an iPhone.
My girlfriend completely demolished her phone, digitizer and LCD, phone is toast. It still powers on but we cannot unlock it nor do anything with it. I need to get pictures off it but I cannot get our computers to recognize or pick up the phone since I cannot hit the "trust this device" prompt on the phone it's self. Is there a peice of software that can bypass this step or anything I can do? I plan on going to Verizon and seeing what they can do but my girlfriend will be distraught. They are not backed up to icloud as her icloud is full. So the only way to get them is through this phone. Any help would be greatly appreciated

NAS? External Hard drive? Server? What am I actually looking for?
I want to have my computer remotely backup it's data every night to an external device over my home network.
I also do a lot of video editing and would like to store video files on this remote device.
I'd like to be able to access the video files regardless of if I am at home or not.
Is a NAS what I am looking for? A server?
My network switch has USB 3.0 and says it allows for external hard drives to be connected. Is that all I'd need to do?

Windows 10
Hello guys . I have a laptop with windows 10 since i've bought it 2 years ago . The laptop is used only for school stuff , like PowerPoint and Google and stuff like that , it has i5 7200u 4gb ram gtx 950m from ASUS . I've reinstalled the windows many times because i always had a probleme with it . First when i bought it i installed windows 10 and it went good for 2 months , then it hit me we a big probleme , i couldnt use my start up bar and couldnt shut down the computer , then i reinstalled the windows and had a probleme with the internet , if i was on wifi it will dissconect me many times until i couldnt connect any more and i had to restart , and more problemes like that . Even that is kinda slow for the configuration of my laptop , only 4 gm ram for windows 10 ?
I've tried to install windows 7 , even Ubuntu and it dindnt work , and i tried to install it many and many times without success.
I did a little bit of research and i've come to the conclusion that other OS then windows 10 or 8 (i dindt try it i dont want windows 8) is blocked by the bios . Can i unblock it or what is the probleme ? How can install other OS then windows 10 ? im sick of it .

Why couldn't an arsonist have burned Microsoft instead of kyoani
Every single time a new windows 10 update rolls around it completely nukes my PC's startup. Last time it took multiple days of trying to boot up before it finally made it. I just updated a day ago and it worked for a few hours. Only to freeze when I walked away last night. Since then it's done nothing but freeze during boot up, freeze during log in, freeze when I go to open a browser after crashing windows taskbar. And pretty much anything a functional OS should be capable of. I have 1 tier under top of the line parts, gtx 1080, ryzen 7, etc. Parts aren't even a year old and they all work fine when the OS doesn't nuke itself. It's become clockwork that every time windows 10 does one of it's passive aggressive forced updates it completely breaks my PC until one day it manages to boot up fine. I have more faith in winning the lottery than having a functioning OS and it pisses me off to no end, especially when I'm trying to actually do work on said system. I can't even count the amount of times I have said I want to head up to Microsoft HQ and beat the shit out of someone. Why is it so hard to make an OS stable and just leave it alone, why are you forcing me to update your dogshit system if it's only going to be a detriment. I would rather stick my dick on a belt sander than do these updates. And the real shit part is there aren't really other options as Microsoft has insured the programs and games people use aren't functional on other OS, nothing kills me more than still paying off a PC that breaks every time these braindead monkey fuckers drop an update.

Note 10+ or wait for new iPhone?
Never had an iPhone but went into the shop with the wife and loved the feel of it in my hand. Since then I've been waiting for the new iPhone to come out and get that after being a long-term Samsung customer and being less than happy with my S8+.
However, the launch of the Note 10+ (5G) has turned my head and with details of the next iPhone still non-existent, I'm sorely tempted to stick with Samsung and get the Note 10.
Has anybody made the switch between Samsung and Apple either way and what's been your experience?

Hello everyone, a good day! I would like to know if I have been ratted. Few months ago, I downloaded a malicious software or a possible rat, when it was downloaded I open and ran it, to my understandings it requested an "allow access" to run the program for the connection or something. After that, my fps in-game started dropping it went from 100+ to 20-30fps or sometimes hit 1, I went on task manager and something was eating my disk usage or malicious file that was running in the background, I tried to terminate it was as no use of it. So, I completely stop the program, and my fps stayed constant from 60. The problem is, my fps used to be 100++ and to my knowing I have a graphic card which is GTX1050 and should be enough to run League of Legends of an FPS of 100++ constantly. Yes, I'm also running on SSD. Few days ago my brother ran a program on my computer, it came out a command prompt and then it was closed instantly, which I know it's probably a rat. Is there anything I can do without reformatting my whole laptop? Also I would like to know how was I ratted, I understand that you can trace some files under task manager.
May I know what should I do after I have been ratted too.
Thanks guys! Would really appreciate it.

My take on yearly Product Cycles for Technology
TL;DR: I usually say that January is the best time to buy PC components. I looked at a history and countless data of "technology" and have noticed a pattern. And there is too much uncertainty any other time.
The pattern usually starts end of February early march when new cool things are announced. This makes the fight for Tech start to stir. April may is when Either some big Phone company or some big Game company does something awesome and the related markets flounder and boost prices to try and capture the people that are hyped. June, July, August is where there are either surprise releases of technology or the stuff that was announced in FEB/MAR is released. This usually makes those months a big mess of the now "last gen" items dropping significantly in price and the new items that people would want are either priced really high or the market is really volatile and the items aren't "fully ready". September is when those companies that compliment the new technology will start making items that either bounce off of or work with the items released in the past months. This usually either brings the prices to a more level bell curve if they were high or will make the volatile market prices go up on average.
October, November, December is when the Big Christmas and holiday stuff happens. All of the companies will frantically fight for all of the Markets that they can. This is where the prices of everything tech are most volatile. One day a product will be cheap the next it will be expensive. And this is the absolute worst time to get products. This is where there are the most bugs/fuck ups of all the tech problems for new components. The reason is because products will be released too early to capitalize on a market that will be gone shortly and the company will decide it is cheaper to release a bad/broken product and have the support to fix it than it is to wait until later after people bought their stuff. This is the worst to me because I want a good product and not have to worry about the price changing on me.
And finally January comes around. This is the absolute best time to buy your products. All the companies have used up a lot if not all of their allowed resources during the holiday seasons and they cannot sustain the pricing fights anymore. They will also Have to use what ever they need to Fixing buggy/ broken products that were released at this time and now people are trying to use them. January/early February has the most stable pricing for basically all technology because of this. The products might be slightly more expensive than you could have found during the time of the sales but it's really not that more expensive. And there is the bonus of the Massive amounts of support that is there for the products. They literally have to have this support or else they will lose all of the money that they gained. This could be in patches or replacements. This is very good for those that pay just a tiny bit more on the product because all of that hard work and pain was already dealt with.
Then the cycle starts again at February. I personally say that the prices are not worth the competition and turmoil that the busy seasons bring. As for the products; right now we are currently in that part of the year where we just had a really big disruption on the market and we are starting to go to the point where there will be the People that compliment things are starting to pick it up. This is because of AMD's recent upsets and The people that are just now making custom cards/ custom laptops and devices using these Chips. Especially this year I would wait.

All in one - global media access (taxed?)
I initially thought of posting this on r/thinktank or r/brainstorming but they are dead, and r/science only allows linking to published papers. Feel free to suggest a better sub than this if you know one.
Convenience is king. All day.
I'm from europe and almost all roads are public. Let me drive now, tax me later. It works just fine.
Same with most infrastructures, water, electricity, etc.
I don't know why this couldn't be the case for social media and virtual platforms too.
So... competition is said to be beneficial, but everyone hates logging in to a dozen different services to consume music, media, watching movies or playing games, have "pay2use" speedbumps and required logins etc. The goal (dream) here would be to have instant easy access to every virtual service, like browsing any page - but without ads and optional login/profiles. Seperate platforms would remain as they are best suited, optimised and with customisable interfaces and user preferences; for example steam for gaming, netflix and youtube for music, movies, shows and user generated content. Yes, there are a lot of problems, regional laws, politics, etc., let's dig into those later.
The idea is to have everything ever made in "one" place, online. There shouldn't be anything like private ownership on something with extreme popularity and of high cultural value, so that it could be pulled or deleted just "because I can" said the owner. All of the things should be available for everyone, unedited, raw, with all the different versions, etc.
You could download any music/ movie/ game(if possible) and play it later. No online streaming or presence required.
You can login, set up your preferences, create a profile and lists, save custom settings, interact with the community and other users, contact creators, rate, vote, etc., all optional. Or you can hit the site/app you want and consume whatever without any of the above. You like a song and want to hear it right now? Click and go. No ads. You can even lock your phone and have the playlist go on. No bullshit. Tax me later.
Our first problems are language and cultural barriers, so we'll be focusing on the western section for starters...
How do we fund this? Our target market is 20% of the global population, that's NA and the EU mostly, gross 1,4 billion people. Cut ~30% (everyone under 18 and over 65) and we get a pool of roughly 1 billion tax payers.
Progressive income based tax, the rare richest millionaires pay maybe $100-1000 a month (some sort of cap), but the monthly median citizen fee would be around $5, making more than $50 billion every year. That should be plenty to cover anything from server costs to royalties. Big brain time for all the business experts, my cost projections are based on absolutely nothing so if you have any grip on the real numbers here, let me hear you please.
This money goes into a transparent fund, all stats trackable online open for the public.
Published content creators/ studios/ producers get royalties paid based on total/ timely views/ plays/ activity/ popularity.
This should be enough motivation for companies to get their projects funded privately by displaying their stats, or apply for some sort of semi-pre-paid assistance if they provide the neccessarities.
The second problem is freedom of speech, hot topic in a time when Alex Jones and many other get reeeeeeported and deplatformed, being targeted by the radical left that is supported by the power hungry elite and silicon valley.
We would have to allow everyone to maintain a online presence, and let people accept to get offended and deal with it.
Before we go into all the details with more walls of text, let me know any other major hurdles that I've missed so far, things that try to stop this open-for-all data bank from happening.

HELP PLEASE
Okay, so i jailbroke my iPhone SE using the unc0ver jailbreaking app. The app forbids you to update the phone since the jailbreak only works on a certain OS. I forgot after awhile and earlier today i hopped on my PC and went into iTunes and tried to software update my iPhone SE. Me forgetting Cydia was on the phone still and other junk probably in the files from the jailbreak, it made the phone have an error mid update and now my phone when i open it, will show the Apple logo the it will go away and it'll go to a black screen thats lit up(meaning the phone isnt off or shut down). Ive tried all button shortcuts and recovering it in iTunes but it has an error every time. Any ideas? I need my phone for high school and I'm unable to go to a store nearby. If i can get help by tonight ill put you in a special place in my heart. I think this is called a "boot-loop" but im not too sure. it wont respond ot open correctly. Its just glitched and im stressed because I need to do homework. Thank you<3.

Reason to delete texts and messenger?
Apologies if this is basic and not appropriate for this sub. I’m just not sure who to ask.
If one had an Android phone that was a few years old and low on memory, would deleting texts and Messenger messages, then wiping the memory -daily- actually be necessary to keep enough memory available on the phone to run normal updates? Phone is not heavily loaded with apps.

What field(s) within the tech industry can be self-taught the easiest? Looking to leave the practice of law. Maybe Coding? Website development?
Im looking for advice on what roles / fields within the tech industry are the most easily self-taught for someone in their late 20’s / early 30’s that has the potential to translate into a job paying at least $100k+ annually.
—I’m a lawyer and routinely handle sophisticated transactions (some involving tech companies) so I feel that I have the mental prowess to learn.
—would like to avoid any expensive educational degrees. I already have a BA and a JD.
—In terms of artistic ability, im probably about average. ( in case this impacts design related fields)
—i don’t know anything about coding, software development, etc but am interested.
—I’m in a medium size city with somewhat of a tech scene, but certainly no Silicon Valley. That said, their is a major shortage of qualified tech employees in the community.
—could probably dedicate 5 hours of in depth self-education to learn the field.

Qi wireless charging to preserve battery life
Hello! I was just in the Verizon store with a family member as she was getting a new phone. While there, a store rep said that it was extremely important to use Qi wireless charging with the new iPhone XR, otherwise the battery gets much worse over time.
Is there any truth to this or is that just a store rep trying to sell more products? It doesnt make sense to me that this would happen on the new iPhone, especially since the tech to do wireless charging is years old already. My brief google search showed no results indicating what the rep said, in fact it looked like quite the opposite was true.. help!

There's this tiny black shadow smudge in the bottom right of my Samsung 1080p LED HDTV. Can I remove it somehow? It's really distracting, I also have no warrenty. Help?
I have the tv connecting on a rotating arm that clamps to my desk, and it has been slightly and lightly tapping against my computer whenever I push it back.. could that be the cause? It's NEVER hard though.. it's endured maybe 20 extremelyyy light taps in the past 2 months on that edge... idk what to do.. and I really want to fix it for free at home.. Any ideas? Thanks in advance everyone!
Here's a pic of it: https://i.imgur.com/xV96ekz.jpg

Download and install THIS. Read the tutorial how to run a script, then run THIS.
It basically just stops any input of the middle mouse button within 0.2 seconds
If it works, put a shortcut of it into the Startup Folder. Then it will launch automatically on every startup.
I don't know where to post this but I really wanted to thank the user u/votiwo for this solution that he posted 2 years ago
about a middle mouse button registering twice. Whether your mouse is or is not broken it doesn't matter with this script and I love it and it helped me a lot so thank you u/votiwo!
