Upgrading gaming PC?
I have a question. I have a pre built 4 year old rig with 8gb of ram, an Nvidia GTX 750ti, and an AMD FX 6300 6 core processor. My pc has been running slow lately and for Christmas I have roughly 250$ to improve on it. I was thinking of getting a Zotac GTX 1060 mini and a new case with better cooling. Any thoughts or recommendations? If I go a little over 250$ that would be ok. Thanks :)

iPhone X Appreciation Post
Can we take a minute to appreciate how beautiful the iPhone X is? The 5.8-inch OLED panel with a near bezel-less layout provides arguably the most stunning structure on an iPhone to date. The glass back and stainless steel frame only contribute to this wonderful design.
Probably my favorite feature the notch at the top of the 5.8-inch screen. Although it gets in the way of the screen, the features such as an infrared camera and dot projector help create the best iPhone experience yet. The dual real cameras are exceptional, and the front-facing camera is a major improvement from the last iPhone.
I can definitely make the statement that the iPhone X is a superior phone to the rival Android models. I have been an iPhone advocate my whole life, mainly due to its simplicity and efficiency with aspects such as iCloud storage. However, with the iPhone X, I truly believe that this smartphone can win over even the most staunch Android supporters.

Help! Storage acting strange!
I just finished my first computer. Every component works, but something strange is happening. I have installed Windows 10 on my SSD (Samsung PM871), but it doesn't show up in the boot priority menu (MSI B350 PC MATE). Only my HDD (WD Blue 1TB) does. When I'm all booted, only my SSD is available through the file manager. When I open my device manager, it says the HDD is connected and I have the latest drivers and everything. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? Also, when I change my settings from RAID to AHCI, it boots. When I change back to RAID, it doesn't (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE).

Parlance seems to have changed. Looking for a new mobile media player device. Help?
I haven't bought a new media player in a long time. I'm too frustrated with the one I have not working properly. It seems like I'm not searching correctly via google. I need a device that can play mp3/mp4/etc. files and has about 800gb capacity. It needs to be physically small.
So what are small media players called now? Are they still being used separately or does everyone use their cell phones for playing music via headphones/ear buds?
What term should I be using to search? And some suggestions of devices are welcome too.

Please explain cryptocurriences to me
I realize there is a subreddit for this but I'm specifically not posting it there because I don't want people using it to define itself.
Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies make no sense to me, so please help me understand. I get that people say block chain provides a source of truth, but I still don't quite understand why and how. Marry that up with actual money (bitcoin and not Ethereum) along with people calculating blocks via their comps and I’m lost.
When I’ve asked for explanations I get people sending me links to articles that basically use the terms “cryptocurrency” and “block chain” to define themselves, which doesn't make sense and send up all sorts of red flags in my mind. These same articles spout all sorts of upsides but zero downsides, which again sends up all sorts of red flags. In the end the entire thing seems like a “pyramid scheme” / “snake oil salesman” situation: (1) Convince everyone this is the wave of the future, (2) get them to commit tons of money & (3) switch to a new method and say the new method is now superior, thereby telling people they have to now move their money. Strikes me like airline frequent flier miles
So, can you explain and maybe convince me how cryptocurrencies are good? Explain it as Dr Richard Feynman might to a class, i.e. use things I may understand to explain this thing and not use their own terms to define themselves.

Smart Home Advice
I am wanting to start making my home "Smart and don't know quite where to begin. One of the first decisions I am facing is of course Echo vs Google Home. Right now I am wanting to go with the Google Home but wait for the Max to release next month...thoughts? Where should I go from there? The basics of what I want are smart lighting (like Phillips Hue), smart thermostat (like Nest), possibly security, smart lock and doorbell, etc but I wanted to get some feedback from people who know what they are talking about! I am also wondering about network security and these items....if someone can back my lightbulb does that leave my whole home vulnerable? I primarily run android and wijndows devices and my wife is a Mac person if that helps at all.

Question About Net Neutrality
Hey everyone,
Forgive me if this is the wrong sub to ask this question but after not having a single valuable response I figured soliciting answers from this sub might get a variety of the best answers and maybe even open up some thought provoking conversation.
So my question is this: Let's say a person uses vpn/proxies/anonymous browsers like TOR to access internet content, as it stands now depending on how secure the service is, it is my understanding that it would be fairly difficult for the ISP to monitor the content/services/etc that the user is accessing (not impossible just difficult to the point I'm not sure if it's be worth their time to dig into).
So using that route and assuming nothing changes with that technology that further exposes users activity, how exactly would they be able to throttle access to a specific service/website/etc. when they can't really see what you are doing? Wouldn't that bypass the potential issues posed by getting rid of net neutrality?

iSwitched from iPhone to a Galaxy S7 edge, and have a couple questions...
[Question 1: Cases] So, I bought my Galaxy S7 Edge a few months ago from eBay, used to replace my old iPhone 6. I LOVED the silicone case made by Apple themselves, and I can't seem to find anything like that for the S7 Edge. It came with an (also used) speck clear candyshell, but it's yellowing and cracking. Does Samsung make a silicone case for this phone like the Apple one, is there a 3rd party one like it, or am I out of luck?
[Question 2: Software] I have the Verizon model, and I was wondering how to remove the Verizon boot screen? It's really ugly, and all the guides on YouTube are either fake, or outdated. If I need to root, how do I do so?
[Question 3: Water Resistance] As I bought the phone used, is there any way to know if it's been taken apart, and if it's still water resistant? I have a little more confidence of it going into the sink on accident, but I'm not sure if it's still able to be ran under the sink.
[Question 4: Software Updates] I read that Oreo will be coming to the S7 series in about 125-180 days after official launch of stock Oreo, but the article didn't say when it was published, so, when do we get it? Any rumors? Any new features? How long will the S7 be supported for?
Thanks!

I dont know if this is the place to post. Surface laptop? Reflective screen?
I am interested in changing laptops to a burgundy surface laptop from a vaio flip pc ( terrible decision). I have really sensitive eyes and my laptop is terrible when it comes to its display. I feel like the constrast is weird even after adjusting it and i can see the pixels all the time which is very hurtful for my eyes. Also, it is highly reflective which is also a big issue. I wouldnt want to change to a macbook ( which i found has thr best screen and my eyes dont hurt), because i am both not a fan and nor do i want to say no to a non touch laptop. My question is, would you recommend this laptop display wise? Is it really reflective? Any issues? Thank you

I’ve been eyeing the Note 8. I want to switch from iPhone. I can’t deny that it’s a marvelous piece of HARDWARE. But the software... still lacks. There’s no alternative to iMessage that doesn’t require the recipient to have a separate app installed (WhatsApp, FB Messenger), etc. Does anyone have any solutions?

Can I swap an AT&T iPhone sim with a straight talk iPhone sim?
If this isn't the correct sub, let me know. I am purchasing an IPhone 6 for my daughter on straight talk wireless. I was thinking about giving her my iPhone 5s (AT&T carrier) instead and swapping the SIM cards. I can't find a definitive answer on wether I can swap the 2 sims or not. Is there restriction between iPhone that were initially prepaid phones? Will it mess anything up to try to swap them and see what happens?

Why does Charter make me wait to chat with a bot?
I had to wait ~10 minutes to enter Charter's online chat when trying to sign up for internet service. From the following chat, it very much seems like I was talking to a bot:
Davaun W: Thank you for contacting Spectrum. This is Davaun W. How may I assist you? Davaun W: Thank you for providing me the opportunity to help you today. Just so you are aware, this chat is encrypted for your privacy and protection. Certain information like ZIP Code or phone numbers may show as '####' for you, but we see them.
<firstname> <lastname>: Hello, I am interested in signing up for Charter internet. <firstname> <lastname>: However, I would like to avoid wasting $35 on installation. <firstname> <lastname>: Assuming that the coax is not disabled at the street, and that there is a way to remotely provision modems by IP <firstname> <lastname>: it should be simple enough to start immediately without needing to wait/pay for installation.
Davaun W: I would be happy to assist with your questions or concerns, <firstname>. To clearly understand, I will be asking you a couple questions. To get started, may I please have your service address including zip code? Davaun W: I would be happy to assist with your questions or concerns, <firstname>. To clearly understand, I will be asking you a couple questions. To get started, may I please have your service address including zip code?
<firstname> <lastname>: <street>, <city> <state> <firstname> <lastname>: <ZIP code>
Davaun W: Congratulations, your address has Charter Spectrum services available. And you are in luck, because Spectrum offers the best all-inclusive bundles available in the market. Let's find out a little about what you need.
<firstname> <lastname>: I am interested in your basic $40/month 60 Mbps internet offer.
Davaun W: Would you like to add Wi-Fi service today?
<firstname> <lastname>: No, I will be using my own equipment pretty much entirely, including WiFi. <firstname> <lastname>: Can you provide me a means to simply avoid the installation fees, or will I have to work around your web purchase forms by signing up for installation, and then cancelling so that I can use my own hardware without wasting $35?
Davaun W: Spectrum is now offering our blazing fast Internet Plus for $39.99 per month for 12 months when you sign up with us. After the first year, the rate will increase to the rate of $54.99. The service includes a free modem lease to ensure you always have the best possible connection. Installation will be $34.99. Would you like to take advantage of this limited time offer today?
<firstname> <lastname>: I would like to take advantage of your offer, except for the $35 installation fee. <firstname> <lastname>: As I mentioned earlier. <firstname> <lastname>: Are you a bot? <firstname> <lastname>: Like, I would assume so, except for the wait. But maybe that is just to throw customers off.
Davaun W: Spectrum is offering an amazing deal. We will waive your standard installation and WIFI activation when you set up an order for any of Spectrum's great Triple Play deals including TV, Internet, and Home phone. This amazing deal will save you a total of $59.98, and is the only way to qualify for FREE installation.
<firstname> <lastname>: If you are not a bot, and are just following a script, can you escalate this to someone useful, rather than wasting my time.
Davaun W: I apologize for any confusion Sir, I can assure you that I am a real person. What can I do for you today?
<firstname> <lastname>: Please respond with 'I LOVE HUMANS' to confirm that you are not a bot.
Davaun W: I apologize for any confusion Sir, I can assure you that I am a real person. Would you like to take advantage of this limited time offer today?
<firstname> <lastname>: Please respond with 'I LOVE HUMANS' to confirm that you are not a bot.
Davaun W: You would need to speak with a customer loyalty representative at (855) 757-7328 and they can better assist you.
At first, I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, and assumed that I was maybe talking to someone following a script. By the end, I was fairly sure that I was talking to either a bot, or a human with such minimal grasp of the English language that they may as well be such. So, why did Charter make me sit around and wait just to chat with a bot?

When's the next military tech explosion?
When will we have next a Something like a gen military? Yes I'm speaking for the US Military, but this could include superpowers such as Russia and China as they would need to be competitive.
Advanced Armor, Advanced Simulation, transportation, and communications technology
Advanced transport methods would be like the kind seen in Science Fiction movies like; GI Joe or Avengers.
The kind of advancements like regenerative armors or even military personnel skeleton suits.
Yes I know some are already experimental, whats your time estimate realistically when we are going to see these things?
Obviously after a WW3 breakout we would see a lot of enhanced technologies, but if we avoid that, going at current pace of 2015-2017ish developments of technology, what are we talking about? 5 years? 10? 15? We will probably nuke everyone by its time? What would you think?
Don't forget to factor the upcoming AI and Robotics boom that could help research and development.

best £100-300 10"-12" laptop/netbook/tablet
hey I have not used the site in a long time but I am a game developer and my gfx card recently died but I dont really need a desktop anymore as I dont play games.
I need a touch screen as it helps for the chronic pain issues but also a keyboard or id just use my nexus 7.
anyway I really am just looking for the best In the £100-300 range (if its on overclockers or amazon then perfect)
aside from game develope I also write and sing but the internal storage size is not important, I care about the gpu nd cpu tho.
I used to build and sell desktops on ebay in 2004/5 but I have been off the internet for a while being stuck with phone (desktop has no onboard gpu but the thing costs allot of electricity)
I need to still be able to work on my game and I also stream allot on periscope so if any of this helps pick one then thanks

What are good magazines, journals and research papers for technologies in business problems?
Hello people of reddit!
I am 22 years old and just graduated in the bachelors degree and began to work at a company.
At work I am usually working with managers to learn to manage projects. But as you probably can tell those people have way more knowledge and experience than me.
I want to go the extra mile and try to adapt to the situation perfectly. My current tasks only consist of doing reports for the managers and the project lead and in the future I can see myself actually managing such a project. For that I need to improve myself, both in sharpen my mind and also being able to know which technologies could be used in a project. I teached myself A.I. in business processes but still see a lot of improvement.
I usually work around 10 hours a day with the weekend free. But I really want to commit to the work. Has anyone any suggestions on how to actually get to the next level both as a human and with my knowledge. Are there any notable magazines or journals to read? The topic should be: current and future technologies, business process automation and guidelines on how to be successful in doing what you're doing.
Thank you for reading and for your suggestions!

Need material for a project about the future of Moore’s Law
Hey all, I hope this is the right sub in which to ask this… I need some information about the future technologies that will substitute silicon chips when Moore’s Law won’t be valid anymore. I need this for a project at high school, so I’d avoid extremely precise and technical stuff. My objective is to convey some basic information about this topic, just to present all these possible technologies. For instance, I’ve heard something about DNA computing and storage, which will probably come before quantum computing (this is what Michio Kaku thinks, if I got it correctly). I don’t need lots of physical demonstrations that would interrupt the fluency of this task.
Tell me if my explanation was clear (it’s a bit difficult to explain as this type of exam only exists here, where I live, it’s not like American presentations) and ofc thank you in advance!

Want a better understanding for PCB, where to start?
Little bit about myself:
Years of experience in repairing mobile handhelds and tabs of all kind of brands.
A year of experience in laptop/macbook and imac.
All repairs were level 2 (module swaps)
No experience in soldering (yet)
No technical education background, just allot of interest and practical experience.
I can troubleshoot all kinds of problems, even main pcb but i swap those instead of fixing the component on the pcb. This is the main reason that i want to broaden my experience, i want to be able to solder and understand the working of pcb and components.
Where should i start? I think my main focus should be about knowing what does what and why does something not work correctly/anymore. Right?
Any tips on read this book or check this or look up that, are very welcome!
Many thanks in advance!

Windows wireless service not running?
Overnight, my laptop has lost all WiFi networks. It can’t even see any around my house or around my school. I never changed anything either, I fell asleep watching a YouTube video and when I brought my computer to school it couldn’t detect any networks. I’ve tried running the repairs as a administrator, but it fails every time. I go into the services app, and try to run the WLAN auto config and it gives me the “Windows could not start the WLAN Auto Config service on local computer” Error 0x00ce508: 0xc00ce508 I’m not sure where to go from here as all internet searches have come up with the same response. I’m sorry if this is the wrong sub, but it seemed like the only one I could find. Any thoughts are welcomed, thanks!

How Leaving Social Media Affected My Mind
About four months ago I quit Facebook and Instagram after a big job I was up for didn’t pan out. Two months later, I left Twitter.
The first thing I noticed after I unplugged Twitter was that online ads unplugged from me. It was an overnight change. One day I was seeing Amazon book deals and food festivals near me, the next it was 100% women’s clothing. The more I use Chrome, the more ads close back in on my interests, but they’re nowhere near as accurate as they once were.
The other changes happened more slowly. Only now, sixty days later, am I starting to understand how things have changed. It’s a cognitive shift in the way I experience the world, and it’s more subtle than you might expect.
Is my life better without social media? My immediate instinct is to shout “Yes!!” I’m supposed to say that I’m “so much happier now” that I’m free from the shackles of Instagram. Or that I’m “so much more productive!” But I’m not sure if either of those are actually true.
In some ways, my life is better. The itch to record everything is gone—it disappeared after a couple of weeks—and that has been good for my ability to focus on the moment I’m in. I spend more time staring out into space, which I believe is one of the best things you can do for yourself. I’m relieved that the first thing I do in the morning isn’t flip through feeds.
But in another way, I’m less distracted by a delusion of importance that I think, at times, made me quite happy. Facebook is designed to make you feel like you’re famous. I was stimulated, intensely, by this delusion. I couldn’t wait to offer my unique and important take on the news, and would spend all day arguing in the comments, courageously bursting bubble after bubble, redpilling my sheeple acquaintances like some kind of motherfucking digital Socrates. The delusion energized me. Not being on social media has lowered my cognitive testosterone, reduced the hours I spend gunning for glory. It has has also changed the way I take in, process, and produce information. This has been the most significant change, and it’s also the most subtle.
I should, for example, stuff this piece with statistics and expert opinions proving that social media is bad for your brain. That would grant me the legitimacy I need to be taken seriously as a contributor in today’s digital realm. But part of the problem with social media, I allege, is that it fosters an over-reliance on authority and statistics. People need other people to validate them, to reassure them that their thoughts and feelings are correct. If a statistic or expert confirms one of their pre-existing feelings, they’ll be sure to share that information on social media where it will be eagerly consumed by those who feel the same. Never do they peek behind the curtain to see if those stats or authorities are legitimate. Sometimes the most illegitimate authorities are the most powerful ones—they have become popular solely by validating large segments of the population who all happen to feel the same way.
Over-reliance on authority combined with social media’s tendency to balkanize means arguments are reduced to attacks on your opponent’s authorities; a refusal to believe that their sources are real. Inside your opinion bubble, everyone agrees and amplifies. Outside, it’s easier to deny authorities than to make arguments. Principles go unaddressed as one side refuses to accept the data used by the other. Left-wing opinions are condemned as establishment propaganda, Right-wing ones dismissed as conspiracy. Rarely do people discuss what sexual harassment should mean. We never get around to talking about what the country should do about immigration, or how police should act in black neighborhoods, or whether their should be a global government. It becomes all about why the other side’s stats are wrong.
The absence of these source-denying circlejerks is one of the first things I noticed about not being on social media. Anxiety over whether my felt perceptions were properly backed up by unshakeable authority—usually one of a handful of acceptable news sources—began to dissipate. It used to be that every time I made a post, I scrambled around for whatever I could find that would obliquely support my point—a frantic bibliography born from 2–3 minutes of Googling, Google itself being an acceptable wrangler of acceptable sources. I suspect virtually everyone does this. Once untethered, you realize it matters very little whether your felt perception is backed up by facts. It is your felt perception, nothing more, equal to 7.6 billion other felt perceptions. It is the closest thing to the truth that you have. Is it possible that you are grievously mistaken about something? It is certain that you are. Is it possible that you are crazy? Sure, but you probably aren’t.
The point of yourself is to be yourself, to believe what you believe based on your life, your experiences, and to forcefully reject others trying to transform your perceptions into theirs. Social media, whether it wants to be or not, is a series of whirlpools pulling us towards scattered pillars of conformity. Leaving it allows your opinions to breathe, to form, to build into maturity before they’re cut down by an avalanche of digital reactions.
For the most part, I receive information from either passive news sources or close friends. I don’t get fed that-girl-I-met-at-the-airport-bar’s hot take on the rise of Boko Haram. I don’t know about the natural disasters occurring all the time all over the world. No longer do individuals I haven’t met or people I haven’t physically seen in many years control the data that enters my brain. It is much more natural way to take in information. For eons, human beings had no way of interacting with the minds of people they didn’t know. We are not built to react to every disaster, every catastrophe, every extreme occurrence in a landscape of billions. We are still local animals.
One of the benefits of the natural information filter provided by my friends is that information is shared in an environment of mutual trust. When they share something, now usually via text message, I know the tone of their voice, I know their method of thinking, the lens through which they see the world. I accept their unique perspectives, which is why we are friends. There is virtually nothing they could share with me, no hot take, article, or meme, that I would be offended by. No word they could say that would cause me to write them off. When we disagree, an invisible contract says that we do not expect to change each other, that any shifts in perspective will be entirely voluntary. We are thus free to speak without fear of reprisal, without being forced into one of the whirlpools. This affords me a freedom of thought and speech that I lacked on social media.
It also brings me closer to fewer people. My relationships are deeper, but there are less of them, which is probably why I feel less famous. There are times when I feel more alone, more isolated, less informed than I did before. But I also feel freer, less anxious, my mind less scattered. More like a physical being, less like a brain on a stick.
Of course, I still read reddit and the news, and I also write things for the internet both for pleasure and for money, and host a podcast. I’m still more connected to the media morass than 99.99999999999999999% of human beings have been throughout history. The difference, then, is the quasi-personal middlemen have been cut out. There are my friends, and there is the news. There are no in-betweens. Those lingering associates—ex girlfriends, kids I went to high school with, networking-event holdovers, photogenic couple-friends, crazy aunts—that used to have the right to inject data into my mind are gone. They have been culled from my mind-trust, as they are meant to be.
What we’re talking about here is a regression to subjective reality, which might also be called cognitive independence. My information intake regime has returned to this more natural state. I have my friends who accept my subjective personhood and feed information to and receive information from me in accordance with that acceptance. Then are news sources, distant authorities which I can believe or disbelieve per my subjective will. Then there are strangers who consume and react to my work. While their reactions can cause pain and dissonance in a similar way to social media, for the most part they are easily sectioned off.
Social media puts all of them in front of you at once. It becomes a cacophony of voices demanding objectivity, deviations from which are policed via reactive outbursts and buzzing notifications. Whether or not separation from quagmire is the solution to your problems, or if it was the solution to my problems, I don’t know. That remains to be seen. What I do know is that I spend a lot more time carefully receiving information, and carefully transmitting it to people on a one-to-one basis. A lot less time feeling famous. A lot more time staring at walls.

What Aux-to-Bluetooth-Receiver/device would you recommend for your car?
My wifes' car has an Aux-in port and I originally bought her a lousy Mpow Bluetooth Receiver. Unfortunately, we had to connect it each time to bluetooth just to use and it was quite cumbersome to use every time she got on the road. I returned the item on amazon but would still like to try another product.
What Aux-to-Bluetooth Receiver for your car would automatically just connect to your smartphone without having to manually connect your device to the dongle each time?
My car has bluetooth, and all I have to do is step in and my podcast automatically plays. I didn't have to go into my settings or press any special buttons on my car. Is there something I could buy so my wife could have similar features like my car?

Weird thing happened on zip recruiter.
Okay so I went for an interview today. I got the interview from zip recruiter where I uploaded my resume.
The hiring person showed me the resume they got from zip and the doc was called Edward macksalka. I am not him and I never titled any of my resumes that. I'm pissed because they didn't believe me when I said I didn't call my resume that. And I didn't.
It's also weird because my last ex was an Edward. I just think it's messed up. I guess if they can't believe me when in telling the truth I shouldn't work for them but damn.

SSD suddenly lost 150 GB of free disk space
My 500 GB SSD had about 150 GB free space. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but it is now in the range of a few 100 MBs free space. I know that I accidentally enabled the "offline files" option (under settings) yesterday and quickly turned it back off when i realized i did not want this option. Is it possible the offline files option used up 150 GB of storage space? Would these files not be deleted after turning the option back off? Or maybe my storage space is gone due to some other reason?
I'm really confused, open to any ideas about what may be going on :) Perhaps there is a way I can tell my computer to sort all files by "date created" and see what files are new (created within the last 2 days)?

At this time, transportation of loads to locations in difficult terrain has very limited technological solutions, but it does not have to be so
Currently, if the easiest route to a location has enough rocks in it, the place can be reached only by air or by walking. For most potential purposes, helicopters are far too expensive and energy-inefficient +noisy. Transport drones are coming and they are better but not cheap and efficient enough for most loads. Other potential option involves so high-end computer science that it can make people jump to conclusions about the difficulty level of writing the software for it. The transportation device works such a way that it may feel like the software for it would need to be so incomprehensibly complex and difficult to even understand that it would be impossible to write. The working principle of the transportation device involves the animal skill of walking i.e moving ground contact surfaces forward in phases to well selected spots on the ground in front of it. Walking is more energy efficient than flying. Good enough for hikers to rent walkers that carry their tents, food and water 100 kilometers off-road. Good enough for telecom companies to transport solar-powered link stations.

I'm wondering where I could buy a monitor that I can seal my computer specs inside, only Apple does this which is a bit annoying because I love the design but don't wanna spend a lot of money I don't wanna spend money on a prebuilt at all I'm building a custom built PC but I don't want the traditional case I want to buy a monitor that I can put my specs inside like Apple does with their computers. Is it realistic and useful to have devices that move by changing relative positions of their ground contact surfaces in a 2 phase cycle?
Instead of wheels, this kind of device has 2 ground contact surfaces that can be moved separately by 2 different support structures. Each support structure has 3 segments so that the angles between them can be changed. The ground contact surfaces are in the lowest segments. When moving at normal speed, one ground contact is in place while the other is moved to a new position by adjusting the angles between support structure segments, then both surfaces are briefly in place at the same time, then the first surface is moved to a new position and so on. A computer has to calculate trajectories for every contact surface movement and angle change between support structure segments, with tens of milliseconds time resolution.
Is this possible? Is this possible with common of-the-shelf components attached to custom-made aluminum structures? Would this need advances in computer science?
This would be the most energy-efficient method to transport things outside any roads or flat terrain, especially if energy from slowing-down phases of the movement can be reused ( with springs or with electric motors turning to generators for fractions of a second... ). Transport drones would be much less efficient.

Snoop without snooping....?
I don't have a very good relationship with my dad and it's hard for me to know what topics he enjoys talking about. How can I use technology to learn more about my father without having to snoop through his phone and look at his browser history. He does not live with me so it's hard to have face-to-face conversations and even through an email he gives me little to work with. But I want to try to break the boundaries between us. I feel like this is really the only way.

Display with Better Mobility than Phones
Just realized that I need this:
An internet browser/computer display which is more mobile and accessible than phones. It does not have to be held, it follows or is attached to the user, and can be used at all times.
Example:
• Floating display in front of face, possibly light emitted from something that sits on the user's head (possibly headphones)
• Display on glasses frame
○ Resolution may be a limiting factor
Areas for development:
• How the user interacts with the display (scrolling, selection, typing)
Anyone know of devices like this that already exist? Any ideas on how to design a device like this?

Transportation devices based on mechanical feet?
How could this be used:
Transportation device based on mechanical feet, that can carry 50 kilos of hiker's camping gear over difficult terrain. Clearly that can not work without fairly complicated software that regulates force on every electric actuator / motor. It needs about 6 axis for each feet. 2 feet would need 12 axis + possibly 2 actuators that move the center of mass on top of the feet. The forces need to be regulated maybe 10, maybe 30, maybe 100 times per second. Let's say it's about 100. If every axis can have it's force expressed with one byte, one "signed char", a number from -127 to +127, fed to the digital-to-analog converters, then there needs to be about one kilobyte per second datastream to keep the transportation device walking.
Mechanical engineers do not have a need to have any idea about how software engineers can make the on-board computer to compute that datastream based on some 3D scanning of terrain few meters ahead and information about axis angles.
Unlike self-driving cars or drones, this technology does not have to be reliable. It does not necessarily matter much if the transportation device stumbles once per kilometer of walking, as long as someone is there to help it up. One person can lead a caravan of 10 walkers carrying 500 kilos of stuff. The 3d scanning, possibly based on stereoscopic computations with data from 2 "cell phone cameras", can be low quality; as low as someone gets with eyes when walking in a dark forest in moonlight.
Other technology in it is nothing special: Lithium-ion batteries used in drones, electric motors used in drones, doors or boats, computer with a 4 core ARM processor with at most gigabyte of ram, some small Linux, freeBSD or openBSD, remote control based on wlan, bluetooth or near-infrared.
Most of this could be said also about drones that fly like birds by flapping wings ( ornitophter ), but it is unclear whether such drones would give any efficiency advantage compared to helicopter drones.

Pixel 2 XL has bad reviews, but i dont see why
This was supposed to be a bad ass long review explaining why all the negative press regarding Google's new pixel 2 XL being terrible and having a bad screen and bad colors but I'm admittedly lazy and will not do that. You'll have to just trust me when I say the Pixel 2 XL is without doubt the best Android phone I've ever picked up from the camera to the artifical intelligence to the lag melting speed of uninhibited and unbloated pure Android experience. This phone should sell for the camera alone, it's incredible. Google lens b is amazing and has identified everything I've asked it too so far including a b off brand of queso chip dip I bought from Publix, back luxary car, my car, a box of nature valley bars and more, it's no slack. The image stabalization on the b videos shot with thisbphone make every video a homerun. Many more reasons I will not list and cannot list due to being inebriated. If you have not given the phone a chance yet, pick it up . U have 2 weeks to return it, u'll probably thank me.
